  1. Neither was I Ray. But the bug hit me on Pinterest and I started with Warhammer 40K. As I looked for figures in resin an entire world was opened to me. It's like most things I imagine. You start out at the bottom and work your way up. My advantage if it can be called that was I bought in hard. I have paint sets that cost quite a bit and the brushes and support products that go along with them. A few hundred dollars later and I am hip deep in figural and miniature painting. But if that's where I was meant to go I am clearly following. I have already garnered approval from the community as well as a newcomer award for a figure i'll be showing here soon. I am having a ball and if that is hobby bliss then I have chosen well. Drag cars are still my passion, as time allows i'll persue that.
  2. This is a Kickstarter game piece from the new game Rising sun. Based on feudal Japan, it's a pretty expansive and involved game. I was smitten with the monsters in the game as they are almost 3 times up normal mini size and very detailed. They are available seperately so I picked up two of the Oni monsters I dug the most. Their size makes them more detailed and a bit easier to paint. This is the Oni of Skulls and he just looked so menacing I had to get him. Lots of layering and washes later and here we are. The pig like one is the Oni of Hate and he is on the bench now receiving his initial coat of red for his skin. That one will take quite a while but once I get going I focus and truth be told acrylic paints dry quickly so quite a bit can be accomplished every time I sit down to work on it. I usually airbrush at least the main color and primer and take advantage at that time to add darker shading by first priming the recesses and then adding lighter primer top down to create natural shadows. I hope you dig the Oni of Skulls.
  3. I appreciate the kind words from everyone. I have another piece I'll be putting up. Cooler than this IMO.
  4. The entire thing is brush painted. Vallejo and Citadel paints are very high quality. Properly thinned they go on very smoothly and leave no trace of brush strokes. I did airbrush the primer though. All paints are acrylic.
  5. I build mostly miniatures lately [IE: Warhammer]. On occasion I see a figure I just GOTTA paint. The entire Kingdom Death series is such a thing. Of course this is a Chinese bootleg since original figures are waaay overpriced. The quality of these is excellent and at 16.95 a bargain as well. The paint scheme is my own since the original is a simple white and pink piece of dullness. Citadel and Vallejo paints are all I use and that's is what are on this figure. I would change a few things if I had to do it over but as is it's pretty cool. Lots of visual interest with color and the balance is decent. I bring builds to my store to show them off to customers and since I've not posted anything in a long time it struck me I could post here from work. All comments good or ill are welcomed.
  6. Stunning in every way.
  7. Look at the Warhammer community. Not only are the models ridiculously expensive but they do get the added bonus of using them in battle. A two fer if you like.
  8. I happen to have gotten Chuck's last set of decals he ever made. He made doubles with a slightly different color to choose from and sent them both. He was a great guy and is missed.
  9. Just finished a trade with Intmd8r . It went smoothly and he is a total stand up guy. He is still waiting for my package to arrive since I slacked a couple of days, but his is well on the way. Great trader from our northern friends. Bob
  10. A Model builder's model builder.
  11. Great save. Perhaps a quick buff of that clearcoat will make it really pop? Well played nontheless Sir.
  12. Nice... I moved back to NB a few years ago. I work in Swansea at NAPA Auto Parts on route 6. Come by and say Hi if you're ever here.
  13. Ordered on the 4th of this month. Nothing for the last 6 days so I put in a PayPal dispute and within 30 minutes [mostly reading this thread] BAM! Tracking and order fulfillment. Sketchy to say the least. First and last for me regardless of how good it is.
  14. Here Here to our beloved and now gone leader. I loved Harry like a brother for all the we went through. I never stood shoulder to shoulder with him but I felt like we were in the same room at times. Missed but never forgotten.
  15. NAPA has all this stuff.
  16. You guys wanna know what I'm building? Ya wanna know what I am excelling at? Ya wanna see what ole Dragline is working on? I nearly quit this place multiple times. I don't post like I used to. I don't care like I used to. I post epic stuff and it got passed in in favor of some 32 Ford derivative. The bickering ad infinatum about kits 42 people care about, and the latest insult to their collective intelligence about something NO ONE gives a $H!t about. This WAS a fun place. There are people who I miss very much who no longer post here. They MADE a difference. They had always offered poignant views and critiques without fail. This is what I'm up to. I build. I build to a standard. That standard has been lost. Lost to some deep place where few decide to tread. I DO NOT praise mediocrity no matter the builders skill set. I have offered direct and profound criticism to new builders that was glossed over in favor of praise, not only unwarranted, but I think damaging in the larger sense. So who am I to judge? This is what Ole Dragline was up to this week. The last 5 months are so killer I won't even post them. If I come off as brash, egotistical or a just plain douchey so be it. Others who were here before me were brash. They were talented. They didn't suffer fools much, if at all. But their binding characteristic was the way they constructed and presented their work. In my work I strive to be excellent. I ALWAYS fall short. But during that portion of my life I learn. I am mad at this entire place selling itself short. For grasping at a straw so close no one could miss, yet missing nonetheless. This may end up being a Swan Song for me as I feel [Like many before me} that just criticism and truth are behind us in favor of participant trophies and false praise. I'll have no truck with any of it. I've been watching and waiting. I wish all the newer members praise and acceptance for what they present. The future is dim indeed without you. But then I notice similar hobbies like Military, Sci Fi and Figural modeling BOOMING beyond all expectations and ask myself where is the drain? Will it hurt? Warhammer, D&D and a whole host of other modeling genres are experiencing Booms the like Automotive could only dream about, most with detailed figures and whole systems that defy description. So I leave you with this. My true LOVE for car modeling is complete. I love it as though it were the food I need. I love to paint and make things real. I do that with some skill as others have noted, and to my delight. But I am hoping for some renaissance. Where not only Bill and a few others care about accuracy. Where honest dialog can be had with companies. And where we get what we ask for the first time instead of waiting while a few pinheads decide it's OK to give us something worthwhile. Meanwhile, I will finish my Warhammer army and some random figures which truly inspire me. I wish for you the same.
  17. Really nice build. I'm on a Star Wars trip myself.
  18. Vintage comic books for over 35 years. Now I'm into Warhammer 40K and FPS gaming like Battlefield.
  19. One word. OUTSTANDING.
  20. Horrific is a word to use. Full of third wave Feminist and SJW malarkey. But it might be up someones alley.
