One more Mad Max model complete. After finishing 9.5 stalled projects I allowed myself to start a new one....with the promise of no stalling if I did. In the film the lead Citadel vehicle of Imortain Joe is a 1950 4 door Jaguar. Needless to say no plastic kit of said Jag in my stash. But when I saw the film I thought it was a Rolls Royce and reminded me of the old Minicraft RR kit. Grabbed one from the stash and saw it was close enough to use. Replaced the grille with a 37 Chevy grille turned 180 degrees. Cut off the roof, left off the trunk. Some parts box stuff...made the trunk mounted gun, chopped the windshield and made a front bumper from brass. Being an official vehicle I did not weather it as much.....trying to match the car as it looked at the start of the film. Thanks for looking...

AMX GT SHOW CAR RESIN KIT
Dave Van replied to MoonshineAndChrome's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Going in with a realistic view is a great idea. I did the kits I wanted to do and offset the cost....but even at $2 an hour it was a losing proposition. Love of the hobby and subject has to be your pay. -
AMX GT SHOW CAR RESIN KIT
Dave Van replied to MoonshineAndChrome's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a AMC guy and retired resin kit producer.......best of luck. The resin biz is a hard place to start. Add a unusual subject and yo have lots of work ahead. -

Is Hobby Lobby Restocking?
Dave Van replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My son is a store manager for a large drug store chain. They spend about 75% of their time restocking, changing, deleting stock and adding new SKU's. In today's over analyzed marketing.....the ONLY constant is change.....I am sure HL is the same. -
This is another stalled project that is hard to believe how old it is. I started this more like 30 years ago....just shy of the 3 decade mark!! It is a model of one of two cars that ran at Hickory and Metrolinia speedways in the 1970. The other car was #4 and between the two they won 30 of 41 LMS NASCAR races in 1974 alone. They were 240 CID 6 cyl cars while the Chevy guys ran 283 V8's. I attended most of those races that year....and LOVED these cars....to me true American race cars that could be run competitive by the average Joe. These stalled as there was no 240 CID, easy to get, and I fussed over details asI had little info on the cars. Now I just finished it up....warts and all. Testors paint.....painted MANY years ago. Penngwen Hobbies decals, PPP wheels and tires AND roll cage. I do like the finished model.....should have done so years ago.....can't take another 30 years for the #4 car!!! thx

Been there.....hurricane Danny put 300 of my unbuilt kits under water. Some chrome parts came out OK but some the chrome came off or was cloudy and not fixable. Biggest issue was boxes, decals and instructions. All were tossed and I put parts in zip-loc bags.Rain water alone should not harm the plastic parts.....my water contained mud and gasoline which ruined many items. Clean and dry your stuff.....good luck.

I have seen models at WM in the last year or so...... But it is typical brain dead corp logic. They had models in Columbus Ohio were they have a number of hobby shops......... But in our region were the nearest model kit for purchase is 2+ hours away....WM does not carry models. Why not fill a void???

Been gone from all WM stores in my region for 10 years.

Very nice work!!! I built the all white car.....but just a curbside place holder until I could get around to a widow.....maybe your work will inspire!!!

Stalled project #9 This one is about 20+ years old. I hate to think it has sat around that long or I am old enough to have PROJECTS that old!!! From Mad Max II The Road Warrior it's Lord Humungus' vehicle. Lots of parts box stuff......imcluding a 1/32 scale truck hood and grille. I got stalled when trying to make realistic exhaust and other mechanical parts. Decied just make it look like the movie car and move on.....I did. Thanks

Bingo.......from my days in NASCAR I can tell you the Chevy brass consider Hendrick as #1 team WAY ahead of #2 Childress. So you can be a distant #3 or maybe #4 or you can go to Ford who has adopted the Toyota model of 'one team' method. -
NICE!!! simple clean build!
