  1. Last weekend a good friend hosted a racing movie night. It was done outdoors in his backyard with a large screen attached to a back wall. The movie was "Le Mans". This got me thinking about racing movies that I've seen and enjoyed, but don't have in my collection. I went onto Amazon and went on a buying binge. Today's arrivals were Ford v. Ferrari, Winning and one other little known F-1 title. Still to arrive are Rush and Senna. My copies of Grand Prix and Le Mans will now have some additional good company on my DVD shelf.
  2. Washi is a type of Japanese paper. It is the same paper that is used to make Tamiya masking tape. Basically it is very thin paper with an adhesive backing. Your results look great. I have lots of rolls, but never thought to use it as an upholstery substitute. Thanks for this great idea.
  3. Great coincidence as I was watching the movie LeMans last night. Was the 917 the immediate predecessor to the 908, or were there other 900 series in between? I really like the model and presentation. Is that the same Helmut Marko who is part of the Red Bull team?
  4. Please let us know how it performs (w/styrene?). I was thinking about making the purchase, but I always start by reading the reviews, especially the 1-Stars. There were a number of disappointed buyers, but I wonder if that was because of unrealistic performance expectations.
  5. That's the video that I also found that referenced the Levin and Gloria.
  6. I am mostly going by the box art. Set 1 would be for an early generation Nissan Skyline. I found a video that indicates Set 2 includes two sets, one for a Levin and the second set for a Gloria. Set 3 looks to be for a Nissan Z car, around 240 series. Hope this helps.
  7. Yes, this was a great find. The link worked for me and I got it for the same price. Shipping had to be added but it still ended up being cheaper than LHS pricing.
  8. Thanks Les. Indeed very sad news.
  9. I was just directed to this sad news. My condolences to his family.
  10. Has anyone heard anything from keyser recently? I always enjoyed his content.
  11. Nice addition. Those are very hard to come by.
  12. Usually Amazon.ca doesn't have much in the way of bargains. I did a search for "plastic model car kits. There wasn't much on the first page, but there was a link on the bottom of the page to narrow the search to Tamiya Kit. To my surprise a Tamiya Skyline GT-R came up for $22. This is an older GT-R32, but has full engine detail. I was going to buy a couple, but was limited to only one. I need to look at Amazon more frequently now. When I placed the order it asked if I wanted it to be shipped in an Amazon box, so as not to be identifiable. No, I want the Amazon box shipping for extra protection.
  13. I'm not sure, but my initial impression was that they are ready to spray. However, the fine print on the bottom of each label says "Ready to Spray Reduced 2 : 1 with KR70" This might mean that in order to have them ready to spray, you have to reduce them with the included reducer.
  14. I made an intangible purchase today. I created an account with Cults 3-D, and purchased an stl file of a Nissan L24 motor. This is the motor that was found in the Nissan Fairlady 240ZG. I have a friend who has a printer and will ask him if he would make a print of the stl file. Seeing as how I know nothing about 3-D printing or stl files, I saved the recommended print settings from the Cults 3-D website. When (if?) I get the print, I will take pictures and add them to this posting! The printed motor on the website looks awesome.
  15. I for one am glad that you started this thread. I'm considering buying a can if my LHS still has it available. I do not understand why individuals have to post about their not liking a product or process. Possibly a moderator(s) can just delete all of the off topic / irrelevant posts instead of deleting the whole thread.
  16. I have been following along with most of this discussion. You have the Rustoleum paint and primer. You also mentioned that you have an airbrush. Why not just decant some of the blue paint and some of the primer. You don't have to empty both full spray cans. Then you can experiment with applying suitable light coats through your airbrush. Do this on some scrap styrene, or even on an old kit body. This might give you an idea as to how the primer and paint might interact with each other and possibly with styrene as well. That's just my thought on erring on the cautionary side. Bill A.
  17. This was a LHS purchase today. This is something that I have done before, that I refer to as the tail that wags the dog. I purchased the C1 transkit at the NNL East, but did not have the required Hasegawa Mini kit. Now I have that kit! This is a planned build for the upcoming ACME show in Georgia!
  18. After reading "Winning - The Racing Life Of Paul Newman", I decided that I would like to have a model of his Barbour Racing Porsche from LeMans. I placed an order with Indycals on June 3rd, and it arrived today.
  19. It's a Fujimi. This kit does not appear to have motorized origins. However, the differential and back portion of the driveshaft are moulded into the chassis plate. It has full engine detail, although you have to cut the hood open. Other than the engine, there does not appear to be much else for the engine bay.Let's just say the price was right for what it is. I will probably swap out the wheels and tires for a nicer Fujimi or Aoshima set.
  20. I bought this kit today from eBay seller wahwah hobby shop.
  21. I really like the aero Cougars. That Tom Daniel California Street Vette is a tough one to find. Any Fujimi Enthusiast Porsche is worth adding to the stash.
  22. I have a few of the more recent Aoshima kits and they are well detailed. When I think of kits that had their origins as motorized models, it usually means they have simplified chassis detail. Is the kit you built the one shown in the Youtube video at the end?
