  1. The roof was shaped from the convertible up-top. This was one of my favorite race cars at the track near Vancouver in the mid 1960's. I built the model to try and find out what happened to it. Eventually discovered that it had a follow up successful career as a drag car but then got wrecked and disappeared. I once had thoughts of building a full size replica for vintage racing.
  2. I really like the 409. I have one planned to go into a future project.
  3. This is going to be awesome. Glad I was able to get you motivated to build this.
  4. Built 14.5 years ago. Link to more photos - FOGG MOTORS 65 MUSTANG album | Phildaupho | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy.
  5. Thanks for the info. I had never before studied the bed floor of a 57 Ranchero. I did an internet search and found a few more views so now I have a plan.
  6. Great project and one that I have wanted to pursue using similar components as you are. A number of years ago I built a 1/24 Notchback Mustang A/Sedan by converting a convertible into a notchback and using GT350R parts.
  7. Thanks guys - I think that I will definitely have to get back to this after I complete my current project. I want to save the kit engine for a future hot rod project so plan to install a Thunderbird engine from the AMT 62 T-Bird kit and will likely go with either chrome wheels or Radar mags. Color wise I am leaning towards two-tone light green and white like the box art model. I think the only difficulty I am going to have is with the pickup bed. I am thinking I will try to make the sides, bottom and bulkhead under the rear window integral with the rest of the body.
  8. Thanks Bill - I just couldn't hold my breath any longer !! Thanks Stuart - I studied the rear of the cab closely and figured I could make the Wagon rear window work. In reality I think the rear window was a pickup unit. You may be right Bob. Once I finish my current project and might not be able to resist getting back to the Ranchero. Thanks David - I do like the standard trim and changed to that on a Gasser Sedan Delivery I did but I do prefer the Fairlane trim on Rancheros.
  9. Excellent Model-T model and great photos
  10. I have a project ready for paint but it has been too wet to consider going to the spray booth or even wanting to spend much time outside so I just had an uncontrollable urge to try converting a Revell 1957 Del Rio Ranch Wagon into a 1957 Ranchero - one of my all time favorite cars and one which probably is unlikely to ever be released as a new kit. The rear window is the Wagon window moved forward and the bulkhead below is a portion of a '57 Chrysler 300 roof. I am not sure when I will get back to this but it was a fun way to spend a few hours. I previously built a Meteor version using the old Revell kit.
  11. I really like the combination of the hubcaps and wide whites. Classic old school.
  12. This is going to look fantastic. Very well integrated design of all elements.
  13. Excellent project. I have used the great looking engine from the Phantom Vickie in a few projects
  14. Thanks Tim - great to see so many fantastic model cars - such variety and quality !!
  15. Thanks Gary. I enjoyed doing the WIP maybe more than the completion !!
  16. Thanks Claude. It has sure made appreciate modern kits but I was also impressed with what they could back in the day beyond metal axles and screwed on undertrays.
  17. Turned out fantastic with a sinister vibe. It looks like a car that might be on display at SEMA. I really like the exhaust system.
  18. Thanks Guys - I am really pleased with how the Beatnik Bandit turned out and how well it has been received here. Dave - your observation - "Each kit I build is really only practice for the next one!" is so true. I am currently working on another Revell kit originally released in the 1960s which is also fiddly but has details and features not found in today's kits.
  19. A fantastic concept extremely well executed. This is a great looking model car.
  20. Than Thanks guys - It is always challenging to try to duplicate special details once discovered and very satisfying when it can be done relatively successfully.
  21. Thanks guys - Glad you like the combo. I like seeing two or more models pictured together that have something in common.
  22. Thanks guys - The first Rod & Custom magazine I bought as I kid was the May 1962 edition which featured an interview with Big Daddy Roth and George Barris who were maybe the two most influential figures in both the 1/1 and model car worlds. Although they and their cars were poles apart, there were interesting similarities with the cars - the pearl white paint and interiors, wild scallops, chrome wheels, shaped fenders and wide whites and chromed racing style engines.
  23. A very well done and unique build. I really like it.
  24. Thanks Eric - That looks like a tribute Bandit I remember seeing in the car mags. Very cool. Thanks Chris Thanks Dominik
  25. Thanks everyone. It was fun project. Big Daddy Roth was definitely one of a kind and built so many far out vehicles. I found the chassis on the Bandit very interesting being a shortened fifties Oldsmobile with hydraulics steering similar to that used on boats.
