  1. Thank you. The purists can just go bugger off, it's your car and I think it's gorgeous. G
  2. Looking good so far. You made it work with next to nothing, I'd say you have exemplary scratchbuilding skills. Never again question your talent. G
  3. Dave where I come from in Missouri the term "hoosier" was not meant as a term of endearment. Imagine my surprise when I moved west and discovered it meant "someone from Indiana". Dale you're definately hillbilly over there by the Ozark mountains and all. I'm a city guy but just south of there are where, the "flatlanders" live. I'm told the hillbillies and flatlanders shall never meet.
  4. It's no better in southern Nevada. A letter or card takes an average of five days to travel from here to St Louis. It takes about the same in return. I too paid for two day delivery which took six days. There was no holiday involved either. Sean I'd say horse and rider to remote Montana, here in the big city we get the stagecoach. G
  5. Beautiful restoration. I will be watching this thread with interest. BTW, what color is that on the real car? G
  6. It still isn't. Secret Service sends it's problems to New York City to work on welfare fraud. ATF to Alabama. Missouri Highway Patrol sends screw ups to the gaming division. Imagine that for punishment. Heck I do that job daily. SHOWGURLZ! G
  7. I painted a complicated three tone vintage green/white/black NYPD color scheme on a 49 Ford. I was waiting for the 57 Ford to come out with the needed decals. When they never materialized I made my own. I used rub on letters and clear decal paper. It worked well until I clear coated the whole thing. Decals that had never before reacted with a mild enamel clear coat curled up so badly they refused to sand out . Poop. I have everyhing finished, so It's just a matter of repainting and markings. I believe I will start with a fresh body and strip the other for something else. G
  8. Fine. I shall commence sloughing forthwith. G
  9. Looks more like a roasted rat to me. Great work. This is going to be neat. G
  10. Carl I even wet sanded the primer just before bed last night. G
  11. Red-Neckity? Now that's a new one. I'll be watching this with interest. G
  12. In a bigger city such as New York or Chicago, the car almost has to be demolished to be sent into the body shop immediately. Most major cities have their own fleet maintainence facility with a body shop going 24/7/365, but there's still quite a back up. That's just the nature of the beast. Ours in St Louis were repaired rather quickly though, good short turn around time. G
  13. Well my camera battery decided not to cooperate yesterday, so I'll post new pics today. The rear deck was quite a chore. It took three attempts to achieve this, the final sanding. The roof was a bit wavy as well. I was inspecting the body and realized there was a lock button on only one side. So off it came. The driver's side was ok. Smooth as a baby's behind now. Lotsa elbow grease on one small part. G
  14. I must always wonder how many truly understand the meaning of this weekend. RIP Cookie (Vietnam), RIP Mike (Beirut), RIP Scott (Iraq). G
  15. That is beautiful Felix. G
  16. That is another beautiful car! G
  17. ^What he said^ G
  18. I have worked all week on the kit body. Primer, file, sand, primer, sand etc. etc. etc. I believe she's finally done. The modified chassis and trans mount are coming along quite nicely. It's now time to work on the Ardun heads and carbs. I'll post pics later today. G
  19. Oh yeah! G
  20. A radio car assigned to district patrol would be rather basic. Specialized divisions receive equipment more applicable to their daily duties. Traffic cars have radar and videocameras along with the specialized light bars. Emergency services, SWAT and the like all have their own preferences as well. When you buy so many cars at the same time, contracts are let months if not years in advance. Wheels, mirrors, and all the minor fitments change while cars are on the production line. NYPD not only buys the cars, for each car they purchase a replacement set of doors, hood, trunk, wheels and bumpers. Dings and wrecks are repaired as fast as possible that way. Fleet management is a major undertaking requiring an entire division of people from mechanics to admin. The three major expenditures in a police budget are salaries, fleet and facility maintainence.
