  1. Thanks for the tip Fred. I was just going to add two motor mounts to the frame but will give your idea some thought. The kit flattie is like the one pictured above. Thanks for the support gentlemen. Danno I might add something "explosive" down the road. Gabriel this was the first and if I recall correctly has been in production for the better part of 15 years now. Lots of misaligned mold marks and strange lumps and bumps. Plenty of sink marks too. I'll add additional pics tonight after work. G
  2. I have been building military subjects nonstop for the better part of a year. I decided it's time to take a break and build a car. One of my favorites is any deuce with an Ardun head engine. I found this while wondering around Wally World today, it has the appropriate Ardun engine. When I got home I dug this moldy oldy from the stash. I began by modifying the cross member to accept the shorter engine. A bit o' frame work. You can see where the front motor mounts will be located. Nothing's been cleaned up yet. I'm tacking things together to check the fit. This was a later issue of the venerable '32 Ford Three Window and in my eyes the molds are certainly showing their age. G
  3. Well we got about 2 miles out and as we crested a ridge line my wife and I were hit with a steady 25mph wind with gusts even faster. It felt like we were being sandblasted. I cut that hike short and we went shopping! Pics later after I get all the sand and dust out of my ears and mouth. G
  4. Paint it white, color the lightbar amber and put USAF markings on the doors. That will give you a pretty close approximation of a US Air Force "chase car". G
  5. Wow, that's nice. G
  6. Goofed up and had to add another post. Everything in the way of personal equipment that a firefighter is issued would be in that Tahoe x2 as it was always a two man crew. Then add shovels, axes, pikepoles and evidence collecting equipment. We would all use the same containers, bags and labels for evidence. Arson debris is collected in what is essentially a metal "paint can", the type with a pry off lid. The can is airtight so fumes of any accelerant can be collected. You would have quite a stash of those as well. Oh and don't sweat the placement of the fender decals on the Transit car. Here's an insider tip. Copcars are lined up, outfitted, marked and moved into the districts as fast as possible. We'd buy 100 + cars at a time, 2 or three times a year. they'd be outfitted and marked, six at a time, day in day out, in our facility. I believe of that six, four, possibly five, looked identical when parked beside each other. I remarked once that it looked like a drunken sailor applied the stripes to one of my radio cars. I believe he actually was................ G
  7. Very nice! I was a detective in the St Louis Metropolitan PD assigned to Bomb and Arson in the early 90's. I've been in that St Louis Fire department Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) Tahoe many, many times. It has the call sign "821". There was a small "Motorola" radio control head like this on the transmission hump under the dash just in front of the console. The back of the buggy had several orange, hand held flashlights like these mounted in chargers.
  8. That is just, just, well, ...........really neat. Beautiful sir, simply beautiful. G
  9. I like to stretch my abilities and try different genres. This is for a friend who is going through some hard times, so I plan on really going all out for him. Again, the research is half the battle and most of the fun. I discovered the wood slat decking on these weas coated with a substance similar to creosote. It started out a dark black/brown but faded to a dark brown due to sea and sun. Here's my take on that. I started with Lifecolor acrylic "dunkelbraun", thinned it way out with water and brush painted it where appropriate. I'll wash this with Model Master "Burnt Umber" enamel late tomorrow. In the morning I have a 8 mile hike planned in the mountains behind my house. Should be fun. G
  10. I lost the better part of two weeks as I had family in town staying at my place. I have done nothing to the Sherman, but I have been at it. Going sideways yet again I present my exercise in painting a Type XI c U boat. A good friend built this kit and lost interest. He placed it on my desk at work and there it sat unpainted for about a month. No one dares come to my office, bosses included, so it's presence raised no eyebrows. Being the lifelong modeler I am I couldn't resist finishing this. So a coat of Krylon Gray primer later, I had this. After some research I found that U boats were gray, dark gray on the bottom and a lighter shade of gray on the top. Boats were repainted nearly every time between patrols so exact colors depend on time frame and patrol area. Tamiya "German Gray" bottom. Masking the waterline. Tamiya "Sky Gray" on the upper surfaces. Nice contrast. I left that to cure for a bit. Stay tuned. G
  11. Well you may not be happy, it is your build, but I like the heck out of it. I have to try one of these. I think it will be fun and similar to weathering a tank. Cylons are my favorite enemy, so as far as I have any say so, bring it! G
  12. Yet again you post photos of the real car hoping to make us believe you built it. This one is super sweet for sure. G
  13. The preceding eight pages are proof positive why aliens fly right by us and make no attempt to communicate. G
  14. Dude, stop posting pics of the real car. That is just flippin' sweet Marcos. G
  15. Incredibly nice! G
  16. 102 yesterday, 100+ today too. It's extremely dry and drought conditions have been extended to most of the state. Fire warnings abound. G
  17. Starting in '94 the LT 1 was available as an option in the Caprice 9C1 package. That was a great copcar. This topic was originally posted before I came onto this site. Great build! G
  18. I live in Las Vegas and see first hand every day the perils of problem gambling. That wouldn't be an issue for me. I would quit my law enforcement career though. Remaining anonymous about the money can be quite tough and I don't want any potential lawsuits ruining it. I would have to work somewhere doing something though. I would drive MrsG nuts after a while. Of course Danno says she must be a bit off in that she married me....................................... G
  19. VERY NICE! Why don't you continue this build log in our "All the Rest" group build. I for one want to keep track of your progress on this. G
  20. Our prayers are with your Nana. Hope she doesn't mind a little "Hebrew love" sent her way! Cannot agree with you more Harry. G
  21. Ira, Eric and Carl, again gentlemen I than you. Just now caught that didja Danno? John coming from you I blush. Yes I am a military builder, some would say mostly military, but you have seen my autos. Check out the "All the Rest Group Build", we have some outstanding talent here on this board in military as well as other areas. G
  22. Nailed it. G
  23. Beautiful clean build. G
  24. The Henderson Executive Airport is just a stones throw from my place. It currently hangers a F6F-5, F4U-4, and various other radial engined beauties. What a trip! G
