  1. Welcome back! The wiper motor looks great, stellar work, as always! David G.
  2. Hello Everybody! Thank you all for your responses and offers. I found just what I needed at Slot Car Fever by Cheyna on Etsy. Here's a link (model kit not included) Cleanly printed, sharp and bright, the decals look great! I ordered the decals on February 10 and received them in my mailbox on the 18th. Also reasonably priced at $10.00 USD. I'll let you all know how they work out when I start building. Thanks again, David G.
  3. I love all the mods you've made for this build! Truly impressive! David G.
  4. I hate when something like that happens but it's like I say: "Each kit I build is really only practice for the next one!" David G.
  5. Hello Everybody! Work continues on the (now correctly identified) MPC 1:32 scale Corvette. The first step in the disassemble and refurbish process is of course, disassembly. It's a snap-kit so it came apart rather easily with only some minor damage. Nothing I can't fix. In the tradition long established by generations of automotive modle kit assembly directions, we start with the engine. A simplified casting with a modest level of detail and some alignment issues. Reshaping the misshapen oil pan with a CA and baking soda compound. More work is required but this is a good start. A new coat of paint for the air cleaner assembly and ignition box. As I said, this should be a quick build but that's all there is for this round. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment. David G.
  6. Yes, that's just what I found Rob. In addition to the Corvette "Jet Vette" there was a racing truck called "Evil Eye", a funny car called "Piston Pusher" and a sand rail called "Dirt Digger". I'm always impressed by the knowledge base that's represented within this community! Thanks, David G.
  7. Ah, thank you for clearing that up Alan. I appreciate the links too. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a link is worth... hmm, half a million or so? David G.
  8. Whoa, nostalgia wave! I remember this cartoon, it was one of my favorites back in the day. What fabulous luck to be able to have and build all of these kits. Each is extremely well done! David G.
  9. Thank you John. I don't have any experience with the MPC kit so I can't really compare the two. But the Fujimi kit is solidly engineered, maybe a little overengineered. Fit and casting quality is good especially given the age of the kit. The kit I'm building includes many of the parts for some of the other versions. As an example, the parts to build the pop-up headlights are included in this kit as are an additional engine cover, parts to build a free standing display placard and a number of things I have yet to identify. Yes, I could have built this with pop-up headlights if I chose to. The only problem I had with this kit is the flare fenders and chin spoiler. As I indicated earlier in the thread, there are no positive attachment indicators for the flares. The builder is left to just "wing" it, so to speak. And the chin spoiler in no way properly mates up with the front flares, requiring significant modifications just to achieve anything that resembles the real life car. One would think that such an iconic and visible part of the car would be more accurately rendered. But that's my only real gripe. Otherwise, I'm rather pleased with the quality and engineering of the kit. David G.
  10. Fabulous looking build! It could easily be mistaken for the real thing. David G.
  11. I don't think I've ever seen one of these built as a Lowrider. It should be cool! Great start on the roof spray. David G.
  12. A good solid build with some nice crisp details, looks great! David G.
  13. Stellar work so far! This looks like a fantastic model to build. David G.
  14. Holy Buh-Jeebers! That's some fantastic detail you have on the gauges! David G.
  15. Aw, that's a bummer. But as I say, "Each kit I build is really only practice for the next one!" I look forward to seeing your next build. David G.
  16. Thank you Gentlemen, you are indeed correct. There were some things in my research and conclusion that just didn't add up, this clears it up quite nicely. I've edited my original post with correct information. Thanks for helping to clear that up for me. David G.
  17. Thank you Atin, I appreciate your kind words. I'm to the point now where I need to lay down the final coat of paint so I can begin assembly. I paint outside on my patio and unfortunately the weather hasn't been very cooperative lately. It was cold and rainy most of last week, yesterday was warmer but rather windy. ? So, hopefully soon. Thanks again, David G.
  18. Thank you Alan, I'm glad you like it. I'm afraid that I don't know enough about models of this type to understand your reference, though. I did do a quick Google search and came up with a bunch of odd results but nothing that seems to tie in with mech warriors. David G.
  19. Super Sharp! Great looking work for a first go with an airbrush. David G.
  20. Beautiful build! I love the added engine detail. David G.
  21. A beautiful rendition of a fantastic piece of auto racing history! Well Done! David G.
  22. Hello Everybody! While waiting for weather, opportunity and willpower to meet so I can put another coat of paint on the Lamborghini Countache, I decided to occupy my time and satisfy my urge to build with this 1:32 scale Corvette. I received this built-up model along with more than a dozen others in a "Model Car Junkyard" that I bought off eBay back in 2010 when I reentered the hobby. This was back before those kit-breakers started opening the classic model kits and selling them one piece at a time. ? It didn't come boxed, I lifted this photo from the internet. As near as I can guess, going mostly by the color it's molded in and the brittleness of the plastic, this is an original 1969 release. Not that that really matters. (edit) As it turns out, my original guess was incorrect. Prompted by observant comments from @cobraman and @peteski I did additional research and came up with some different results that are most likely correct. It seems that this is probably the MPC "Fast 111's Jet Vette" issued in 1981. My plan is to disassemble and refurbish it with new paint and maybe some added details. And give myself something to work on while I wait for paints and adhesives to cure on the Lamborghini Countache I'm also currently working on. It's a very basic kit. Intended as more of a toy than an accurate scale model. That's not a bad thing but it does limit one's expectations of detail and accuracy. The challenge I face is not making it more than it is, but making it as much as it can be. My plan is for this to be a quick build. More of a diversion than anything else. As always, thanks for stopping by for a look and please feel free to express your opinions, thoughts and observations. David G.
  23. Suh-weet! David G.
  24. For me it would depend on the intended color of the car. David G.
  25. The stripes came out great! David G.
