What can I say that hasn't already been said? You've put together a fabulously detailed, museum-worthy model. Most impressive work! David G.

The bane of model builders everywhere- ejector pin marks! On the floor in the passenger area, they're not so bad but in the cargo area? Those will be very visible when the model is completed. I spent probably more time than I should have trying to come up with various ways to address those blasted marks. Filling, sanding and re-sculpting was unlikely to yield good results. So I decided to see about adding some cargo to cover them up. I even went so far as to fabricate some paper grocery bags for the "grocery getter". Unfortunately, coming up with groceries with which to fill them was more challenging than I anticipated. Luckily, I found some sheet styrene left over from my model railroading days that had a suitable pattern. I think this will work. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment. David G.

Thanks. It's almost identical to the '65. By the way, if you want to trade that 250 L-6, let me know. I'm looking for one for a project. David G.

Thanks Ricky. For the color I'm using Duplicolor Sunburst Gold. If it fits, using the chassis from the 66 would be a good choice. I like the body on this kit but the chassis and tub interior? bleah. Thank you Snake. I agree, the scripts and badges are great on this one. Thanks for the tip. For cars of this era, I usually check to see what kind of filler is between the bumpers and body work. My plans for this one are to detail that bit with paint rather than to try to cut out the middle section. If you want, feel free to drop a couple of shots of that '64 gluebomb here. I like those old survivors, there's something special about them. Yes it would Barry, and with all the drag racing parts in this kit, that would be an easy build. Thanks for your comment Jason. Despite its simple chassis, this is a rather good kit and provides a number of build options: factory stock, custom, drag racing and race crew car. The body details are nice and the only complaint I have is the four big ejector pin marks on the cargo deck. Up to this point, nearly half of the time I've spent on this kit has been trying to find a way to address those pin marks. David G.

Now that I've finished The Alien, it's time for the next project. AMT's '65 Chevelle Superwagon. This vehicle, in reality is a 1965 Chevelle Malibu Station Wagon by Chevrolet. I'm calling it the Malibu Wagon. And though the drag race version looks like fun, I'll be building this one as a stock "Grocery Getter". This is a rather simple, almost toy-like kit. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this kit started as a promo. Should make for some quick building. A little detail painting on the chassis plate. I still have to paint the fuel tank. The metal wire axles in this kit make quick work of getting the wheels under the car. Gotta love those classic wagon lines. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to offer comments tips or critiques. David G.

Thank you for your kind words Michal, I'm glad to know you like it. I've never been to Cuba, I live in the States and, until recently, our government really didn't like us to visit there. I hope to visit Cuba some day, I hear it's a beautiful country. David G.

Hello Michal and welcome to the Forum. Your Chevy looks great! Beautiful paintwork and a nice color scheme. I like the contrasting colors of the interior. I built the convertible version of this a short time ago and had some difficulty with the front inner fender alignment and fitting the front bumper/grille properly. As I recall, I had to grind away some plastic from the bottom of grille to fit it up under the hood properly. If you're interested, here is a link to the build thread for my 51. And one for the finished model. Thanks for taking the time to share your work with us. I'm looking forward to seeing more. David G.

Here is the final update. Throughout the entire build cycle, this model has been rather difficult to photograph. Placing it against a somewhat darker than usual background seemed to help a little. Although it doesn't show very well, the color is actually a dark black-green (Tamiya XF-27) over gloss black with Tamiya XF-63 German Grey highlights. The claws are Molotow chrome applied with a brush. I used some RTV silicon to add "dripping saliva" to the jaws. It took a little bit of effort to bring this kit past the point of just looking like a plastic model kit of The Alien but I'm rather pleased with the way it came out. The classic Alien Profile. And of course, my obligatory Display Case shot. Thanks for taking the time to look and as always, please feel free to comment. David G.

I remember seeing photos from back when you were first working on this one. As I followed your build progress, I was, and still am very impressed with your scratch building skills. It was so close to completion that I'd always assumed that you had finished it. In any case, I'm glad to know that you finished this one. It was well worth the wait. David G. -

Using Pledge Floor Care Acrylic and black paint, I also mixed a translucent gray tint for the head carapace. I think it looks much better tinted than clear. More like it should. I also finally got the seams on the body taken care of and sprayed it with the basic gloss black. The next step is detail painting the body and organ pipes, or pipe "organs" and installing them. Thank you for taking the time to look, I always appreciate comments, hints and suggestions. In the ten years that I've been a member of this community, the feedback I've received from all of you has been a tremendous help in developing my model building skills. David G.
