I’m loving this so far!! I picked up one of these last year on a whim, not having any idea what I’d do with it. I’ll be watching this one progress!!!

Help with parts I.D. please
Keef replied to Keef's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the help guys!! -
Does anyone know what these 2 hoods are off of? I got them in a bag of assorted parts and pieces a while back and I’m curious what they are.

Can’t forget the torque boxes, or the K member skid plate ?? I understand where you’re coming from with “saving the bling for your Escalade” ? I have another one of this kit in my stash that will be a Coronet R/T(have all the resin goodies for it) so I think I’ll save the steelies and dog dish caps for it. Thank you for the pics showing how you modified the rear axle Mr. Guthmiller , I was thinking along the same lines as what you did but I was trying to make it more difficult for myself ? I think I have arrived at the perfect ride height.

Did something I should have known better than to do. Used a gluebomb chassis for an initial mockup of a kitbash project only to find out that said chassis wasn’t accurately assembled. So now I have some chassis and suspension modifications to make that I wasn’t prepared for. Such is the life of a model builder I guess ?♂️

What did I get today that’s model kit related? Does anxiety, added stress, and a strong want to pull my hair out count? It is related to a model kit. ????

Used a gluebomb chassis for an initial mock-up on a new build I just started. Everything looked like it fit perfectly. Then I start using the donor kit and doing minor chassis assembly for a proper mockup only to find out that I’m going to have to modify the rear suspension and lower the front suspension quite a bit. I know this is the nature of the kitbashing beast but it irked me because I hadn’t planned on doing the extra modifications.

I think I’d rather bite the proverbial bullet and order another one than to attempt that. ??

And after some more mocking up and trial fitting it appears I was mistaken. That’s what I get for using a gluebomb chassis for initial mock-up. ? Mr. Guthmiller you are correct that the rear suspension will need to be moved forward just a smidge to make it line up properly. Not a big deal, and after re-reading your build thread for the Coronet, I feel comfortable with doing that. It also appears the front suspension needs to come down a little bit. I was thinking of using these wheels but, the more I look at them the less I like them.

I’ll give that a try. I bought two of them originally and they were pretty warped when I got them. I tried to straighten one of them and it snapped right in half. If I can’t straighten this one out I’ll probably end up using the twin scoop hood unless someone else makes a resin hood for it.

After being inspired by @StevenGuthmiller and his highly detailed 68 Coronet build, I’ve decided to challenge myself to attempt a highly detailed build. I am starting with the AMT 70 Super Bee kit and the Revell 68 Charger kit. Plans are up in the air right now but I have an idea of how I want it to look when done. Found some used pieces from a 69 Charger in my parts box and said “I wonder ?” The wheelbase lines up perfectly. Im probably going to use the 68 interior simply because it’s complete and unmolested, and nobody makes an accurate full detail interior for it. May try to scratchbuild one if I work up the nerve, but default plan is use the 68’s. As for the engine I’m torn between the Hemi or a nicely detailed 440-6pack. I have a resin pitchfork hood I bought several years ago from Harts Parts but it is warped a bit. Does anyone know of anyone who offers that hood in resin? All comments or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. This is most likely going to be a long term project and I will keep it updated as often as possible.

What would YOU like to see as a model
Keef replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A full detail 1970 Dodge Super Bee(along the lines of the new Revell Mustang), a 1969 Roadrunner along the same lines but with an accurate body. A 1970-1972 Pontiac LeMans(possibly a “luxury “ edition). S’more accurate mid to late 70s Dodge Ramcharger or Power Wagon (Macho edition?). -

Finally got to throw some paint on this one. All that’s left is all of the detail work and assembly. I need to find some black GT500 side stripes somewhere but if not then I’ll just say it’s a stripe delete ? -
Love me a pro street Mopar!! Love the color and the details!

Getting more and more in the stash
Keef replied to Exotics_Builder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I sold off my entire stash a few years back to fund finishing my 1:1 project. Sold around 400 kits and numerous builtups along with all my paints, resin parts, supplies, tools, etc. Didnt realize how much I would miss it until I went to a local car show and a guy had some Mopar model kits for sale dirt cheap so I bought them. At last count I’m back up to about 100 kits and climbing! ?? -

I’m a member of about 20 Facebook model groups, as well as 8-10 forums(maybe more that I’ve joined and forgotten) I mainly stay in this site and the FB groups mainly because of the ease of posting pictures honestly. I’m a member of several forums and would be more than happy to participate more but, they aren’t iPhone friendly and I can’t post pics without an image hosting account, possibly a laptop and that’s just irritating to me. -

How to make high detailed engines?
Keef replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As the others have said, take it one step at a time. I’ve been building for 40 years off and on and I still haven’t mastered the “Master Detailer” skills yet. What I HAVE done is try to incorporate something new into every build. A wise man(and very masterful builder) once told me to “treat each step of a build as if it were its own model”. Start out small with maybe plug wires, then once you’ve mastered it, move on to heater hoses or battery cables. Take your time, mistakes WILL happen. I don’t consider them mistakes but, learning experiences to build off of. Sorry for the incoherent reply, I have a tough time finding the words for my thoughts at times. And above all else remember it’s only plastic, have fun with it.
