  1. You can always use Testors Dull-Cote to reduce the shininess, but it would give it more of an aluminum look.
  2. That is a cool workshop and it'll be interesting to see what you do with it.
  3. I think that I first did some cooking when I was a Boy Scout and I now cook often and can cook pretty much anything either in the kitchen or on the grille. I've made Chinese chicken wings, broiled lobster, spaghetti, and I really like cooking steaks, shrimp, and pork tenderloin roast on the grille as well as burgers, brats, and Italian sausage. While my wife is a very good cook, she also works so I am the chief cook & bottle washer around here. When I cook, I clean up and when she cooks, I clean up. How does that work?
  4. When I travel I want NOTHING to do with cars or model cars as I get enough of them at home. I've seen people get off the cruise ship in Hawaii and wait for a bus to take them to Walmart. Are they nuts? Why would anybody travel thousands of miles to do what they could do at home?
  5. I build for "myself" just like I did back in the 50's & 60's. It was fun back then and I try and keep it that way now. While I don't crank out "award winning" contest models build after build like some guys do, I enjoy my builds and that's what counts. I do enjoy seeing other guys builds and really marvel at the award winning contest builds also, but it's not going to change my building style.
  6. There will be the 5th Annual Contest and Swap Meet on Sunday August 5th from 9:30 am to 2 pm at the Algonquin Township Building, 3702 US Hwy. 14 Crystal Lake, Illinois. The theme is Dirt-Off road vehicles and the sub-theme is 50 Years of the Daytona 24 Hours Sports Car Racing.
  7. The shelf life is usually pretty long but I've had sealed cans that were only a couple years old leak out at the seams and I had to "pitch" them.
  8. Go easy on your cat as he liked your builds also.
  9. Andy, you DID know about it as I posted it under the Contest and Shows section on June 21st and also on July 13th, check it out. We did have a guy from Wisconsin enter the model contest also.
  10. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss and you have my sincere condolences and will be remembered in my prayers. There has been WAY too much violence in this country over the last several years and that is NOT good. Good luck with your '37 Ford truck project.
  11. Thanks for the photos Gerry as that was and EXCELLENTshow with Pontiacs from all over the country and Canada too. It was amazing that there are so many georgous Pontiacs out there. They also had Arnnie "the farmer" Beswick and Jim Wangers there also, two of Pontiac's living legends.
  12. A couple of days ago my mail carrier dropped off this Land Rover for a future project in which I'll make it a "tour vehilcle" like the one I rode in a couple of years ago in Bora Bora. That vehicle could go anywhere! http://s818.photobucket.com/albums/zz104/itsagas1320/Model%20Cars/?action=view&current=DSC02648.jpg
  13. I've painted in the bathroom with the exhaust fan on and I covered the vanity top with a drop cloth and newspapers and it seemed to work okay. I'm not going to wait 'til late September to paint outside.
  14. I've been using guitar string lately for pinning mirrors and other small parts and it seems to work good for me. After drilling a small hole, I cut the string with wire cutters and epoxy the string into the hole and then I do the same when I attach it to the body.
  15. Really nice job on that Ford as it looks great!
  16. Any of you "old-timers" remember Skip's Fiesta Drive In on First and North Ave. back in the 60's? That was one AWESOME place where they used to take cars like rails off the trailer and drag raced them down North Avenue. Lots of "street fighters" hung out there and picked up some "stoplight drag racing" action from that place.
  17. Great job on those "big-rigs" and thanks for posting them. I remember building a couple back in the 70's including a conversion wtih instructions from Phil Jensens book and also having a subscription to one of the truckers mags and I can't recall the name of it right now.
  18. I've seen SO many '57 chevy kits over the last 50 years that I'm really surprised that a model company hasn't tried to sell '57 Chevy T-shirts also.
  19. Really nice job on that Mopar build and the color looks great also.
  20. I think that MCW also has that body in resin.
