  1. I think that the paradigm for printed magazines as we know it are going away. Printing 10 of thousands of magazines to distrubute is expensive. High volumes allow higher advertising rates to help pay the costs. In the current environment it is difficult for a a low magazine. Larger volumes allow web presses to be used which decreases the cost of printing. For low volume niches magazine on demand printing seems to be a more viable option. Its more expensive but it has a better chance of being sustainable. Finally is the issue of where to see the magazines. How many hobby shops are going to be able tovweather the storm from the virus? Second I think Barnes and Noble are on borrowed time. Almost half of the store is dedicated to selling toys, games and calenders. I don't see how that is going to really sell, if anything it just creates a larger footprint to pay rent for. One possibilty might be to get hobby lobby to sell MCM. Just a thoight.
  2. It will go a long way to instill confidence if we can see 2 new issues this year. There are 5 months left in the year so it should be doable.
  3. Just realized that I'm not seeing ads on my tablet or iphone. Not complaining but I thought the ads were paying for the site?
  4. Nicely done. I like it.
  5. Welcome aboard. You have a monumental task to do. Any idea when the next issue can be expected?
  6. Coming along nicely. Like the trunk and firewall detail.
  7. Cool. Coming along nicely.
  8. Logically the people answering the phone are not going to have any knowledge of the shuttering of scale auto and the other discontinue magazines. When the formal announcement is being those people are being notified on the status of their jobs. Its sad that SA is gone . Hopefully somebody will start a new magazine. However I dont see that happening is till the fallout subsides from the virus. What good is it to print a magazine if the stores aren't open to sell them.
  9. I cringe when I read that people are tossing the magazines. The volume and weight make it hard to sell or even trade them. What about donating them to a veterans organization or some other worthy cause.
  10. Thanks for your insight. I did feel that scale auto was improving. Was impressed with all the pages added for the eaglemoss ads.
  11. Its not evil machinations it just they dont care. It's great that they appear to be giving refunds and not making it difficult to get them. But it would be like calling and ordering a pizza and when it gets to your house its not what you ordered. When you ordered your pizza they failed to tell you they were out of key ingredients so they substituted different ingredients. So much for customer service.
  12. Bottom line print magazines are going away. More people are using electronics devices for reading. Second its not a surprise that Kalmback didn't stop taking subscriptions. They are hoping you will accept FSM instead of requesting a refund. FYI just went to site there is one banner indicating scale auto is going away but all of the subscription boxes are still there.
  13. Carl so sorry to hear this. Both my parents have been gone for quite a while. My dad suffered with advanced parkinsons. My mother went quickly when she was diagnosed with muliple myeloma. I miss my parents everyday. I take comfort that they are in a better place.
  14. The message that a site is insecure is strictly a warning that financial transactions should not be done becuase the information transfer is not secure. Second I would avoid edge and use a different browser.
  15. So sad for someone so talented to die so young.
  16. For me the loss of scale auto is a disappointment but not something I considered an irk. There are far too many other things that irk me. Number one is the fact that people are not making an effort to contain the virus. As a result a lot of people have unnecessarily died or been made unnecessarily sick(some with long term effects). In addition there has been and will be a lot of financial hardship for many people. The virus could have been a catalyst for the best of humanity to come out. Rather than the worst of humanity. Will we ever learn?
  17. Thanks Dave. Sounds like you've got a lot of work coming up. Your efforts are well appreciated. Its sad that there are people who take pleasure in vandalism rather than doing something that would help others. Again thank you for keeping the site running smoothly.
  18. Absolutely amazing. I think you and codi are having an arms race to see who can push the envelope further.
  19. Absolutely stunning. Absolute jewelery.
  20. Interest project. Will be following.
  21. Nice work. Unique concept. Your custmizing skills are improving. Keep up the good work.
  22. Definitely a shock. However print magazines have been dying for quite awhile. Stores have reduced the space for selling magazines because they can use that space to sell higher profit items. I have the first 20 years of Fine Scale modeler. Quit when the content stagnated to rehashing the same things ad nauseum. How many how to paint beginner articles are needed. When scale auto started they had a great mix of articles however when kalmback took it over they started using the same tired format as FSM. I have every issue of scale auto from issue number 2 up until about 5 years ago. I just found the content lost its luster. As long as we have great forums as this one we will have a vast resource of knowlege to draw from.
