More on Molotow pens
kymdlr replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
old thread I know but.... Ive had a fine point moltow pen for over a year now. At first the chrome results were amazing and looked just like plated parts . I had zero problems appying it to any surface. The pen has always been stored laying down and indoors. Now my pen isnt producing any effect like it was in the past, now it is simply a silver paint coming out. Ive tried shaking it excessively and cleaning the tip w/ alcohol with no change in results. Does the chrome have expiration ? Anything else I can try or should I just buy a new one? -

Very nice build. looks really period correct -
Thanks Casey those links answered my question.

That color looks really good and it layed down well.

Ive usually used pre wired distributors from some of the online sources or electric wires taken from random electronics to replicate spark plugs. Recently ive seen some builders with wires that are significantly thinner than the pre wired offerings online and they look more realistic. Does anyone have info on where i could find thinner wires or longer length wires that I could cut down so I dont have to keep buying one distributor at a time?

What is the color?

Build looks great. You don't often see 3 color interiors that look good, yours is great. I think it would look good with some "20 or bigger wheels. -
This looks legit. Never seen billboards on a magnum but it fits good. I did a 2010 challenger in the same style with the billboards & police wheels.

VERY sharp build. the detail in the engine bay @ chassis are great. Im usually not a green fan, but looks perfect on this bee. Is the vinyl top only paint or did you use the tape method too?
-
looks good, Ive been planning to make one of their slicktop caprice's at some point. Are the decals still in production?
-
Where did you source the wheels?

The concept is good, and the build looks like it went together well, but the body paint is rough. I think you would have had better results with a different brand of paint such as Duplicolor, testors or tamiya. The clear coat for sure went on too thick on the drivers side & you got some kind of debris in the paint which also I would attribute to the brand of paint.

Thanks. I never put hoods on my builds, hides the engine compartment too much for me. I have a box full of kit hoods actually lol

Amazing detailing. all around great build and that color is SICK! Way better looking that the traditional red ferrari's

Another Box stock build. Nothing really special about it, but I saw a real one in 1:1 and had to build it. Tamiya Red w/Clear polished out. Note to anyone who plans this build in the future, avoid using the quarter window decals, they are a pain to get to lay down even with micro-sol. My first completed build in a few months. Its basically box stock with the exception of the hounds tooth interior, valve covers ,seatbelts & wheels/tires. The color is Model Master "Bright Aqua Pearl". During your painting process, what are you using to attach the parts to the popsicle sticks?
-
Here's the hood I went with. It's a resin piece w/ photo etched scripts. Not sure if I will keep the scripts on it, I think they look out of scale.

I detailed this kit as much as I could to match the real 1:1 in the garage. aftermarket 5 spokes & vinyl decals. The kit motor is a 6.1 SRT, mine is the 5.7 RT so I took the motor from a lindberg charger & scratch built the CAI setup & throttle body. added carbon fiber & seatbelts to the interior.
