  1. I would purchase SEVERAL of these, if cast.... I know RACE MOTOR REPLICAS is looking for a master of this to cast....
  2. At MY age........I can't REMEMBER if I dropped it....'Z'
  3. Machined Aluminium Specialties, owned by Terry Kinnear, has an extensive line of aluuminium trim rings, photo etched wheel centers, and other hobby related stuff...
  4. This is wonderful, and heart warming ! Thanks for sharing this with us, and tell her I think she did a GREAT job !....'Z'
  5. I believe Race Motor Replicas does one, but not sure; I know they do the Hemi'shaker' styled hood.
  6. I use a similar technique on nearly everything build, but I do the windshield fitting/finishing before I put the step in the body....as you said, time consuming but looks SO much better than the stock glass inside the body. I 'glue' mine in with clear acrylic paint....'Z'
  7. Wow....Only took two posts to get to the accusations and the mudslinging.....'Z'
  8. I have probably widened 40 sets of tires by cutting with a sharp razor blade; my glue of choice is superglue; no accelerant. I also bevel (or 'V' my 'inside' cuts on the inner surface of the tire towards the rim, then run a bead of superglue around the inside of the tire for strength. This makes an EXTREMELY strong bond, I haven't had one come apart yet....'Z'
  9. I have used 'PollyS' acrylic clear on Alclad with success, however I would test it on sprue first. I've used other acrylic clears, but don't use clear lacquer....'Z'
  10. Don Yost worked very hard, and invested a lot of time and a considerable amount of capital into these videos, and now you tell us your friend pirated them ? Sounds unethical to me....Steven Zimmerman
  11. I like where this un's going ! Great job on the hood...Race Motor Replicas offers a chopped, de chromed body for this with molded in spoiler and front and back roll pans, with the front and back glass 'laid back' at a greater- than- stock angle... 'Z'
  12. ....But then, I dropped 300 bucks on other stuff (grin)....'Z'
  13. When I go to swap meets, after my first 'walk through', I go to the boxes under the tables, and then to the 'freezer bagged' models in boxes on the floor. If you are careful and methodic, you can get some GREAT buys there, especially if you are looking for parts; but many times, full kits missing only tires can be found for $3 to $6 bucks. And with today's paint stripping methods, don't let a paint bomb stop yez ! At the Toledo NNL I bought 3 R/M Mustang Mach III's, 4 AMT Nascar kits, and 3 R/M '69 (I think) Corvettes for a total of 26 bucks, Mustangs were complete with no instructions, Nascars had no tires, Vettes had bent window frames and no tires \r instructions.....
  14. I do a lot of scribing on the masters I make for resin casters, and this is what works (for me ) I use automotive pinstriping tape to lay out my guide lines, and burnish it down, sometimes I put down 2 0r 3 thicknesses of tape.I scribe with my good old exacto knife, starting LIGHTLY with the SHARP part of the blade to get a good 'guide' groove'dragging' the blade at a shallow angle. Then with the BACK of the POINT of the blade until reaching the desired depth...TAKE your time, go LIGHTLY.BE PATIENT! I save all my blades with broken points and use them to adjust the width of the panel lines. The corners will be your worst enemy, all I can say is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. You WILL make mistakes,do not try filling them in with modelling putty, or automotive spot putty, use a good two part filler, and rescribe your lines while it has just set up firm, but not totally hard be sure to 'work' the panel edges with 400 grit sandpaper, 'Real' panels do not have a sharp edge to them but are slightly bevelled (Go check your 1/1 car door edges ) . One of my 'pet peeves' is when I see a really nice resin casting with crooked, shallow,or erratic panel/door/hood/trunk lines....Steve Zimmerman
  15. Why doesn't every member of our armed forces that dies or is wounded in Afghanistan or Iraq get this kind of attention ? I'm sorry that a race driver died, It happens to people every day. and the race driver does not have his life on the line 'every second' but maybe 4 or 5 hours a week, about 3/4 of the year. I've worked in factories,(50/60 hours a week, year in year out/ 40 years; I've seen a man die on the job more than once, due to the employer bypassing the safety precautions, without the employee's knowledge. It is a horrible thing to see....So, let us grieve for the race car driver, but let's put it in context.......Steven Zimmerman
  16. Windshields. I make most of mine flush-fit, which means it has to be trimmed to drop in the window opening with a .005 fit all way 'round, and then a ledge has to built about .030 wide all way around the back/inside of the opening; recessed 'in' the same thickness as the glass.....I usually ruin 2 or 3 windshields before I'm successfull; and sometimes the windshield curveature must be bent to match the body (but..THAT'S another story).....'Z'
  17. Gregg, we all (well maybe, not ALL) miss you....GET BETTER!........'Z'
  18. I paint my seats the color I want, then spray gloss clear from a distance very lightly and with very short bursts, so that it is almost dry when it hits the surface you're painting, almost like overspray- then the same thing with color, until I get the look I want, Then lightly spray with either satin or flat clear (again, in short bursts from a distance) This takes practice, but works well for me. If done correctly, you get texture, but it's finer then some of the texture sprays out there. Don't overlook the texture sprays available from other then the model/ hobby suppliers-Rustoleum makes several colors, as do other brands....'Z'
  19. #1 To see other modelling friends I only 'talk' to on the internet #2 To compete ! ( yes, I admit it ! ) #3 To see the great stuff on the tables. #4 To buybuybuy, aftermarket, old kits, new kits....I don't spend much online, I get it all at shows, except plastruct & paint. #5 Road Trip, usually with modelling buddies....
  20. Marty, were they Vista Cruisers ?
  21. I have one of those R&R Vista cruisers, and would not buy another one. I know that a new resin Vista Cruiser is being mastered at this time.
  22. I'm not an Illinois modeller now, but from 1959/1965 I lived in a small town in Illinois called Cornell (Pop. 400) half way between Pontiac and Streator. Built my first model car there, when I got a Lindberg 32 Ford pick up for my birthday, and shortly thereafter, my sunday school teacher gave me an AMT 32 ford(first 3 in 1).....and I' ve been hooked ever since. I built a few model airplanes before that..A bunchMonogram P-40's and I remember a B 26 or two, but it was all cars after that....'Z'
  23. Is this the 'best' modelling forum on the internet? Don't know, haven't seen em ALL, which is (IMHO) the best way to judge . I DO know, however, that it is the FORUM I ENJOY the most,I know it's been said before, andIi'll say it again....Don't like em ....DON'T READ em !....How hard is that ?....I somehow seem to miss all this hub bub on here, could that be because I just plain don't go lookin fer it?.....Hmmmmm.....'Z'
