  1. We have three HobbyTowns in our area and they all seem to be out of stock on most Tamiya paints fairly often.
  2. Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Walmart all sell Washi tape in 1/2" width. It is sold for decorating in the scrapbooking area and is printed with designs, but I think it's the same thing and is pretty cheap to try.
  3. Not much help, but I've been told it works either way.
  4. You can usually polish it out unless it is too heavy. As far as airborne contaminants, you can only change the environment by either cleaning or moving the spray booth to another area. If it's in a garage or something, you might try misting the floor with water to keep contaminants from being stirred up by wind or walking around. We live with two fuzzy dogs so that is an issue no matter how well I de-lint myself.
  5. I've wondered this too. I've also been looking for a Vanagon roof to turn the Westie back into a regular Vanagon if anyone has one. I have the UN flat roof Vanagon, but I want more!
  6. In two weeks we are going to be doing a week and a half kamikaze/Cannonball road trip from Austin to San Francisco and possibly into Oregon, time and weather permitting. Does anyone know of old line hobby shops in that area that I might be able to sneak into while the wife and kids are distracted? I'm always looking for old or uncommon car/truck kits.
  7. That looks nice! I hope my entry turns out half as good. Were you inspired by Hemmings or was it a coincidence? They drove a restored 1936 Ford Panel Truck in the 1979 running of the original Cannonball.
  8. Do they make 1/24th R/C cars? Are they any good? That actually sounds like fun.
  9. I would never pay $200 for one, but I will pay the HL price less %40 for one! It should be a nice nostalgia subject.
  10. So technically, on a truck on the road, but still... Out in front of my office.
  11. I had an Ott Light magnifier as well and really liked it. I got it at Hobby Lobby too when they had a sale on art supplies. I ended up leaving it behind when we moved and didn't realize it until it was too late.
  12. I grew up on the Texas coast in the middle of the refinery fields. The oil companies purchased fleet trucks in particular colors, but the local station owner generally bought whatever was available. He might have ordered a particular color if he had the time and money, but generally he would find one on the dealer lot that he liked at a good price and buy that. Then he would have the local sign painter put his brand logo on the doors and tailgate and call it good. In my little hometown, we had Mr Blancette and Mr. Blissett who owned the Mobil and Enco (later Exxon) stations across from each other and Mr. Knippa who owned the Texaco station. They all had bought-off-the-lot trucks that were set up for road service.
  13. I haven't seen one, but can you use the soft top off the Monogram 1/24 CJ-7? They are still pretty easy to find on eBay and stuff.
  14. I went to Dollar Tree and bought a couple pairs of those cheap reading glasses in different strengths and they work as well as anything.
  15. Michael's and Hobby Lobby carry some, but usually only in black. You might also check HobbyTown or somewhere that stocks Woodland Scenic train rub-on letters.
  16. I've been on the same search myself. Fireball Models has some Cibie lights and he has Minilites in a couple of sizes. Scale Production has some period mirrors, those rubber hood tie downs and other things, but they are based out of Germany so you may have to deal with postage fees and the wait. If there is an American supplier I would love to find them.
  17. Did anyone attend the ModelFiesta today? I only had a couple hours there, but it was fun. There didn't seem to be a lot of entries in the contest, but I found some things I had been wanting in the sales area. I managed to get a couple photos.
  18. That's really cool, nice work? I miss the days when my kids wanted me to build their pinewood derby cars that they were supposed to build themselves!
  19. In a way I'm glad to hear that. I was beginning to doubt my ability to judge scales! LOL
  20. Good job! These trucks are so neat.
  21. I think it's a Volkswagen LT van. They're pretty cool!
  22. Is that the kit rear wing, modified? I like it.
  23. That is really good. Neat idea!
  24. I was looking at the Jada F&F Escort at Walmart. It is listed as 1/24th but it appears larger. Has anyone scaled it out? I'm guessing it's closer to 1/22nd? I really like that generation of the Escort, but I want one that is accurate. In fact most of Jada's products seem oversize. Is that correct?
