  1. Hobby Lobby is doing another clearance. Yesterday I bought 3 Revell Porsche 911s for $6.89 each, a 1979 Trans Am for $7 and the AMT 1978(?) F-350 or $8.99. Can you tell my wife is out of town? The other day I got a Raptor and a couple of others for cheap as well. They had the clearance kits hidden on several end caps. I found them by accident. I didn't need them, but I really wanted them! A sidenote, is the 911 supposed to be 1979ish 930?
  2. I'm painting flat black trim on a gloss black Porsche 911. I'm not blind, but I may soon be! Okay, I feel better...
  3. I've gotten on a Singer Porsche kick and need racing/street seats along the lines of Sparco or Recaros. Basically the type a boy racer would put in his Mustang or Porsche. Are there any current kits that include these as an option? I would like a kit that has both these as well as a stock option so I don't end up with a kit that has just the seats missing. LOL Preferably something that is available at Hobby Lobby or Hobby Town as they are nearby.
  4. Forgot to mention it, sorry. Dupli-Color sandable Hot Rod Primer in the spray can. This and their gray filler primer are my go-to primers. It wasn't horrible, it looked like a bad case of orange peel. I was able to wet sand it smooth then put a couple of very light coats on it and it was okay. More annoying than anything.
  5. I just primed three kits today, two of Revell's Porsche 911 with the hard white plastic and another kit that is of AMTs softer gray plastic. Both of the Revell's crazed. Not super bad, but it took a good bit of sanding to get the finish ready to take paint. I've noticed that is the case in a lot of my kits with that harder white plastic.
  6. I don't order much on line so that leaves low on extra parts but most of the US resin manufacturers tend towards 1/25th. For spare parts, I go by Hobby Lobby and Michael's periodically for the clearance kits and will pick up cheap kits for parting out. I don't mind so much stealing the engine or wheels from a $6 kit the way I would a $30 one!
  7. Only my opinion, but this is one of those kits where you just have fun and don't try to Hulk out out on the super detailing. It's the modeling equivalent of watching Gilligan's Island, you just enjoy and let the inconsistencies roll off your back. I just built one not long ago and it's very basic, not really any fit problems. As has been mentioned a few additions will make a big difference.
  8. Whatever the semantics, this is one nice looking project. Sometimes we get too involved in side issues and forget the original purpose. In this case the purpose is to enjoy some exceptional work! Love what you are doing!
  9. This was a simplified kit, I don't remember it having an engine, though I could be wrong. Either way, I remember the proportions being very good. I don't have the RX7, but I bought and built the 924 from this series a while back. They come out really nice.
  10. As for the Suburban, I hope to see the 2wd first with a 4wd and some custom versions later. I remember seeing the 2wd trucks everywhere as I grew up in a beach town, but nobody paid extra for the 4wd, they just aired down their tires and drove faster!
  11. Yeah for the Suburban and the F100. I love it that the RX 7 the old first gen curbside from the late 70s is coming out again. this was a very well proportioned curbside. Gotta have it. Please, please buy lots of them so they will be encouraged to rerelease all the other kits in this series. I need more of these to relive my childhood and this time I promise not to blow them up with firecrackers!
  12. I'm pretty sure I read that the FC used a regular CJ2 frame under it. Those are pretty common since the Hogan's Heroes Jeep has been rereleased several times.
  13. That really looks great! Is it going to be in a museum?
  14. I don't have an example to show, but you can take the stock running gear from the AMT and put it with one of the Revell 32s. It takes some work but the results are pretty decent.
  15. I haven't seen one, but I'm looking forward to getting them.
  16. I am following what you are doing. I love the scratchbuilt engine and envy your skills.
  17. Beautiful work. I'm so jealous tight now!
  18. I'm guessing they look at the molds in the warehouse and go for the low-hanging fruit, i.e.those that can be cleaned up and used without a lot of expensive work. Makes sense to me anyway. I'm happy to have this kit in whatever form. A few years ago I got nostalgic and tried to get one on eBay. Wasn't going to happen for the prices they were asking. Maybe it'll sell well enough to encourage them to backdate it into a small bumper early Pinto. Perhaps they'll send some poor Round 2 intern into the darkest depths of the mold burial grounds with a whip and flashlight and have him drag out the Pinto hatch as well. I really want to build a whole series of Pintos and Vegas and Gremlins, oh my!
  19. In my personal rating of model companies I've always put JoHan in the first place, with MPC and early (pre-Lesney) AMT closely vying for second. They had some of the best bodies of any kit manufacturer. Looking at the picture, I also see Accu-Cast plans to come back. I remember the name but that's all. Anyone remember them or what kits they did?
  20. I've looked at this one at the LHS. Is the body stock other than being shortened? I was thinking of the brief 70s fad of shortening 1:1 buses.
  21. Loving this so far. I built the Monogram 1/24th version a few months ago and I really like these old trucks!
  22. I came across an old unstarted Revell snap kit Toyota Truck for nothing a while ago and decided to build it up to go with the Datsun 620 that I'm slowly working on. The Toyota was released in 1979 or thereabouts and comes with hard plastic tires open-backed tires and 70s mold technology, so there's not much to the kit, but it comes out alright! The paint is Rustoleum Sail Blue with a shot of DupliColor clear over the top to dry the Rustoleum. The wheels and tires are from a Fast and Furious Honda Civic. I was going for a shop truck look.
  23. Welcome and have fun, that's what it's all about!
  24. I used to build model boats for a living. Wasn't much of a living which is why I don't do it anymore! Anyway, I will be looking for those for sure!
  25. Love it. Just love it!
