  1. Sorry, this should have been in On The Workbench. I can't figure out how to move it.
  2. I love European cars so I will be getting the E30 and this Volvo.
  3. I found some at a small convenience store, also a book store that just closed a couple months ago had a small selection of mostly model car kits and a decent amount of building supplies.
  4. Sometimes it feels like I have almost as many unfinished kits as I do new in the box kits. I am through with my Master's classes, my work schedule has eased up and I need to do something. So for the new year I'm going to try to actually follow through with one. Here is my first victim for the New Year... I've had it since 1997, still in the box. I was planning to build it box stock, but I'm thinking of doing something like this for a change of pace. Nothing that I can't reverse if I ever want it stock and probably with better paint than the ratty 242 pictured here, but something along these lines.
  5. This is one of the kits that I keep picking up to buy then put back. I received one of these from my grandma when I was little, so I want one to build just for nostalgia's sake. At the same time, I have so many kits that I haven't built..... First world problems and all that.

  7. Stance is a big part of it. A lot of them were lowered in the front to add a little streamlining. From the 60s on most cars had at least the front wheel wells modified. Also look at the way things are blended. Bumpers often were tucked in closer to the body with aluminum fairings to smooth them to the body, sometimes they were sectioned so that they didn't stick out side to side as much as the street car. Google is your friend. Find everything you can on the car. If there isn't much on a particular car, maybe look at other similar cars to see how they were put together.
  8. Yep, it's not the same without the hat! Have fun with it!
  9. I love this project!
  10. You've kind of dropped a bomb on us all! LOL! Everyone is going to want details. I'll start with this; Is that how it looked coming right out of the printer? Really nice.
  11. From the newest box art, it looks almost like they are using the Radial T/As that Monogram used to put with all there hot rod kits! I hope not. LOL
  12. I just saw a reissue of the old Monogram Countach at HobbyTown. I didn't find a review or a finished build up of it. I assume it is a typical 80s Monogram style kit. I'm thinking of doing one as a fiberglass kit car, sort of a kit car kit! I'm not looking for a super detailed kit, just a fun builder. From the box art, the only obvious issue is the regular issue Monogram tires that are both too tall and too narrow for a Countach. I'm thinking a set of Pegasus or Aoshima tires and wheels might be a good option. If anyone has built one of these, I sure would be interested in your opinions.
  13. No, just the regular one.
  14. I just went through your albums. You really have built some beautiful models this year!
  15. Depends on how detailed you want to get. If it's a curbside, it's much easier to do. You can redrill holes and put the axles up higher. A good website for 1:1 inspiration is StanceWorks.com.
  16. I just got one of the old Testors 1980 Firebirds. Not a lot of detail, but it brings back memories.
  17. I wrote to Monogram a while ago and got a nice history on this line of kits from the guy that designed them. I urged them to re-release them. Maybe they will, the RX-7 is coming out soon and if it sells well, here's hoping the release the whole line again!
  18. Looks really good! Anyone know the significance of the back door being a different color? Just wondering..
  19. I have this and the Dragula in my stash.I'm interested to see how it turns out. Are you "the" Captain Tuttle? Serial number 397-299-66. Graduated from Berlinisches Polytechnikum?
  20. It doesn't look bad at all. My one thing is that the wheels/tires need to be just a bit smaller with more sidewall and the fronts seem to be the same size as the rears. They need to be a bit smaller to look right.
  21. One thing I have noticed about Purple cleaners is that at least in humid climates, even when resealed, they seem to lose their effectiveness after a couple of months.
  22. I think Monogram included one in their release of the Olds Aerotech High Performance series in the early 90s. Someone here may be able to verify this. Ebay has this kit off and on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Monogram-High-Performance-Series-Olds-Aerotech-1-24-Sealed-/311745340017?hash=item4895786271:g:5McAAOSwA3dYMnXb
  23. Good build. It would be a 350i, if I remember my BMW stuff right.
  24. Going to be interesting. Looks like fun!
  25. The GM Quad 4 engines are cheap and with out the plastic cladding it bears a strong resemblance to an Offy!
