I just saw a reissue of the old Monogram Countach at HobbyTown. I didn't find a review or a finished build up of it. I assume it is a typical 80s Monogram style kit. I'm thinking of doing one as a fiberglass kit car, sort of a kit car kit! I'm not looking for a super detailed kit, just a fun builder. From the box art, the only obvious issue is the regular issue Monogram tires that are both too tall and too narrow for a Countach. I'm thinking a set of Pegasus or Aoshima tires and wheels might be a good option. If anyone has built one of these, I sure would be interested in your opinions.

Terrible Kits You Love!

No, just the regular one. -
I just went through your albums. You really have built some beautiful models this year!

Depends on how detailed you want to get. If it's a curbside, it's much easier to do. You can redrill holes and put the axles up higher. A good website for 1:1 inspiration is StanceWorks.com.

I just got one of the old Testors 1980 Firebirds. Not a lot of detail, but it brings back memories. -
I wrote to Monogram a while ago and got a nice history on this line of kits from the guy that designed them. I urged them to re-release them. Maybe they will, the RX-7 is coming out soon and if it sells well, here's hoping the release the whole line again!

Looks really good! Anyone know the significance of the back door being a different color? Just wondering..

I have this and the Dragula in my stash.I'm interested to see how it turns out. Are you "the" Captain Tuttle? Serial number 397-299-66. Graduated from Berlinisches Polytechnikum?

Overhaulin; Foose Europa

It doesn't look bad at all. My one thing is that the wheels/tires need to be just a bit smaller with more sidewall and the fronts seem to be the same size as the rears. They need to be a bit smaller to look right. -
One thing I have noticed about Purple cleaners is that at least in humid climates, even when resealed, they seem to lose their effectiveness after a couple of months.

Nicest 4 banger; your thoughts.

I think Monogram included one in their release of the Olds Aerotech High Performance series in the early 90s. Someone here may be able to verify this. Ebay has this kit off and on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Monogram-High-Performance-Series-Olds-Aerotech-1-24-Sealed-/311745340017?hash=item4895786271:g:5McAAOSwA3dYMnXb -
Good build. It would be a 350i, if I remember my BMW stuff right.

Going to be interesting. Looks like fun!

The GM Quad 4 engines are cheap and with out the plastic cladding it bears a strong resemblance to an Offy! -
I have never had it affect plastic. It just strips the paint and leaves the plastic alone. Occasionally it will leave a ghost remnant of the old paint or it won't strip the paint depending on the composition, but the plastic has never been messed up yet.

I finished one of the Monogram versions this year. One of the few kits I finished, but that's another story. Anyway, back to my point, I would love to see an update. I've thought about buying this kit as well and look forward to seeing how it turns out!

Maybe Moebius or someone will take pity on us and kit one. I bought an AMT rebuilder a few years ago for an obscene amount and also one of ModelHaus' resin kits. -
$30+ kits - hows it affect you?
oldcarfan replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a lot of unbuilt kits. I'm well stocked up on Model As, Ts and Deuces, and I've got 57 Chevies that I'll never build, so now I only buy stuff that really speaks to me. That leaves out a lot of the current kits. My last purchases were the Pinto wagon and both the AMT and the MPC Pacers, also the Duster and Volare. If they were to reissue the Monza, Chevette, Pinto hatch or other 70s-80s kits I'll be buying them. -

You can also use the HL coupons at Micheal's, so if nothing else you can go there. -
Let's think about the Cannonball run 2017 theme.

One theme that might be fun for a future contest would be an Alaskan Highway Cannonball. South to north, Dawson Creek, BC, to Delta Junction, AK. 1400 miles. -

I had packed my entry away knowing that I was stuck for time. My work hours changed and I started working on a Master's degree in the last few months and I am drowning. If there is an extension, I might be able to finish it. -

The prices have definitely soared in comparison to my pay. I can't blame the companies, they don't seem to be exactly drowning in excess cash. I've bought relatively few kits these last few years. Partly because of prices and partly because of family needs. When I do buy, it's from ebay for something vintage or I use the HL 40% coupon if they have anything I'm interested in. The last local hobby shop in Austin, King's Hobby, gets any of my money for special orders. -
Yesterdays dashboards
oldcarfan replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Given the option, I prefer old cars, mostly sports cars. On the other hand.... My wife and kids are here today and driving me crazy, just kidding, because of these safety devices. Lapses of concentration happen to even the best. They were hit by a distracted driver at 70 MPH. They were gravely injured, but survived. The car's engine ended up well under the dash and the left front wheel was where the door should have been but the car took the worst of the damage to keep them alive. I don't let myself think about what would have happened if they had been in an older car. I love my old cars, but realize as I get older how much things have improved. My dad used to talk about 50s cars. He said when they were in a wreck, you just hosed out the blood and sold it to someone else. Now if only they could combine the style of the old ones with the safety and reliability of the new ones. -
Looks good! Now if only AMT will tool up some parts to turn their Chevy into a GMC!

Welcome to you! I have a couple of your models from way back. nice stuff!
