  1. I miss my 1973 Duster (VL29G3B375353 -- in case it's still out there...) . I'd love another '73 , but I can't afford them anymore (they were dirt cheap in the 80's and 90's) . Another dream car would be a 1970 Yenko Deuce LT-1 Nova. I'd love one in that light metallic green , or black-on-black.
  2. You mention that these decals are (to paraphrase) "Old 90's decals". If they're 1990's Monogram decals, they're not compatible with setting solutions -- says so on the front page of the instruction sheet. I had a similar problem back then with the c.1996 issue of the 1970 SS-454 Chevelle... Then I re-read the instruction sheet, and sure as 'hit : "Decals Are NOT Compatible with Decal Setting Solutions" .
  3. Do not wet sand any metallic, pearl, nor base coat for translucent / candy colours ( silver, gold, brass, copper, etc.) . Likewise; paint all part which are to be body colour at one time. Metallics --in this instance-- need consistent coats, otherwise an uneven shade / depth may result.
  4. That R5 looks like it is nicely executed , headlamps not-with-standing. The Alpine did not make it to the United States; we only received the Le Car. Perhaps if the sporty Alpine has found its way here, sales would have been better. The R5 Turbo [et alia] was considered to be a Grey Market import (in es. , a legally-imported model) , with a handful of Black Market (illegally-imported and sold -- no emissions equipment; "small" bumpers; metric measurement / foreign language interior instruments; no side marker lamps; and headlamps which were European-spec) models were around, and mostly were street operated. The Peugeot 205 GTI is a fine vehicle ! My friend has a "1985" / "1986" model . It's one-of-two Grey Market 205's imported to the U.S. when the model was new. However, I digress... I am quite looking forward to observing the progress which you will make with this Alpine R5.
  5. The 1968 Coronet became the 1969, then, finally, the 1970 (first reissed in c.1990 , but with the then-newly tooled 1968 Road Runner's chassis, suspension, engine, engine compartments, etc., with the original body , glass, bonnet, and interior). The only way to fly, IMO, is an all-new tooling. And, IIRC, that is what was exhibited some 17 years ago during the end of the RC2 era ownership of AMT et al., and it never saw the light of day.
  6. Absolutely ! All-new tooling at that -- none of that long in the tooth poodle poop from the 1972 C-10, either. Likewise, a series of 1973-1979 C/K's with ad infinitum variations (think: Moebius' F-Series) .
  7. Absolutely ! I was lucky enough to score a 1988 annual and a 1990 454-SS , both in mint condition. I'm thinking of converting the '88 annual to a C-2500, as the long bed is more fitting on a 3/4 ton . Heck , I'm even toying with converting it to diesel power -- assuming that I can find a 6.2 litre in 1/25 scale (an earlier version could be based on the Revell 307 Olds engine). But , I digress... A camper shell would be a great addition to the long bed version.
  8. Quite the ambitious project ! And , yes, kitted years-apart is right : I'm not sure when the 1965 Nova was kitted originally(or if it was ever offered in stock form) , but the AMT 1966 Nova L-79 was kitted in 1988 (delayed release by one full year) . To me it appears that the entire front clip needs to be pulled-back quite a bit . Nickle's worth of advice with five cents change.
  9. Any stock Colonnade would be awesome ! I can totally see a 1973-1974 with the option of a 350 or 454, and period correct hop-up parts; a camper shell, too. Frankly, I'm surprised that the 1983-1989 Ranger wasn't committed to styrene -- promo or kit -- when they were new (same with the S10 / S15). Wildly popular, and superior to the Mazda-based models (which I also like, but the Ranger was better) .
  10. Certainly , Tim Boyd , you , and me aren't the only ones who want for those outstanding kits reissued . Even more better would be Round2's dusting-off of the MPC [et alia] Goodyear VR50s from c.1989 for not only these Toyota kits, but for other applications as well (1987 ad sequitur Mustang GT, etc.) .
  11. Still hoping for reissues of the MPC Celica / Supra 'twins'. Also hoping that some better tyres are created / included .
  12. Nice score! Quite looking forward to seeing what you do with this 49 years old kit. Jim Wangers was in advertising , and is a big proponent of the GTO , and Pontiac in general (but enjoys all makes and models). Jim Wangers Bio (hbconcours.org)
  13. I used Tamiya putty --white and grey-- and have had zero issues with it. Now , when I first used it , I found it would 'lift' or 'flake' around the edges regardless of setup time. Then I tried it over a coat of different non filler-type ('Sandable' et al.) primers, and the lifting / flaking ceased to materialise. All of the problems I'd encountered with Tamiya's putties were when I applied them over bare plastic (at least in broader / wider applications... a little bit of bare plastic's not going to be affected -- at least in my experiences) . May be worth a try. Experiment on scrap styrene.
  14. Beautiful Galaxie , Gareth ! Is this built from the Jolly Green Gass'r [sic] version ?
  15. Lovely Tortie there , mate! How old is she?
  16. Wonderful M-635-CSi ! White is classy on these coupes ; yours is a fine example of this. I like that it's European-spec (thin bumpers , no catalytic converter) vs. the U.S.-spec models I'm used to seeing. There was one exemplary 635 CSi Alpina ("Black Market") around some 20 years ago which impressed me mightily. It was white-on-white (pale tan dash , carpeting, etc.) with aluminium centre 16" BBS wheels. 10,000 miles , smelled brand new inside ! Its owner was a friendly older (in his mid-40's -- I was in me late 20's) chap who'd invited me to sit inside of his pristine example. Too bad that I couldn't get a photo or 7 of it. But , I digress... Is this kit still available? I'd love to get me a copy of it.
  17. Dusting off this seven year old topic / thread here ; I love how your modified promo came out, and more so the story behind it ! I recently purchased the MPC annual of the 1977 Chevette ; perfect , unbuilt condition. I had it when it was new ( I was 7 years old... it didn't survive past 1979 ) . Opening that box brought back so many great memories of when I bought that '77 annual at Hinshaw's Department Store (an expensive , upper-middle class store which is long defunct) . I'd forgotten just how many cool extras were in this kit ! A table , chair , bench , tent , two figures, tool box , etc. , etc. ! I'm planning a stone stock build , including those crummy plastic tyres (which will be painted with Tamiya Black Rubber in aerosol ) . The tool box will hide one of the ejector pin marques ; the other marque is faint enough that embossing powder will hide it. In my quest to find images of the engine --stock 1.6 litre-- I' having devil of a time finding even one. I'm fairly certain that it's GM Corporate Blue with a semi gloss black air cleaner ; but , the cam covers are the moving target : are they aluminium ? Painted ?
  18. I just saw that , too . What the deuce ? Still blocked as of 15:45 on 2nd Jan. 2022...
  19. I'd be content if any and all of those Parker Lewis Can't Lose graphics disappeared for eternity. It's bad enough that {{wince}} Pro Street is coming around again (definitely not a jab at my fellow builders and the outstanding workmanship I've seen -- I just abhor that period for customising and colour schemes) , but that 80's poodle poop belongs in history only.
  20. Scrap the moulds for those hideous wheels, please ! They were ugly when they were new , and they're even worse 30+ years on. Fireball to the rescue !
  21. Pun intended ?
  22. That WS23J8 is coming along nicely ! It's great to be able to see its progress.
  23. Oddly (or not) I was just thinking about this particular build a couple of days ago ! That's an insane amount of work , Bill ! Looking GREAT as usual !
  24. I'm confused -- are you agreeing with me ? My brain's vacuum tubes aren't completely warmed yet ; it's on 0455 hrs , PST.
