  1. Other than the Regal G.N. / GN-X and , to a lesser-degree , the Monte Carlo SS , the A/G-Specials weren't marketed as performance cars . Yes , the H/O Cutlass was performance-oriented , but... Roger Smith did enough damage to G.M. --- a total unenthusiastic individual .
  2. Wasn't it originally TB3 Corporate Blue ( "999" on the fender tag ) , but was named 'Petty Blue' for the 1970-1971 B-bodies ( then renamed Basin Street Blue [Plymouth] and Super Blue [ Dodge ] for the 1972 model year ? ) The "T" in "TB3" = 1962 model year release . I've heard some conjecture that Petty Blue was actually a different shade of blue vs. Corporate Blue .
  3. You've managed to capture the most iconic of 80's luxury coupes perfectly ! Those A/G Bodies from that era were delightful vehicles ; the Oldsmobile was the best . What did yours have under its bonnet ? 3.8 litre ? 5.0 litre Olds ? The 100 miles of vacuum lines and a full-complement of emissions equipment drained every last bit of power from those engines ----- but , man , were they smooth and luxurious cars ! I still have the first edition of the Revell H/O Cutlass ( 1983 model ? ) and am yet to dive into it . Other than the 80's Monogram Monte Carlo "inspiration" ( e.g. , moulded-in coolant overflow bottle , windscreen washer bottle , and other details ) it appears to be a nice --and truly welcomed-- kit . Again , great 'Gutlass' !
  4. Canadian-market 1971-1972 Dart Swinger Special 340 models . This GB5 beauty belongs to a friend whom resides in Alberta ; 340 with floor shift 3-speed .
  5. One of my favourite actors ( Salem's Lot , anyone ? ) was a lover of felines ---- a true testimonial of one's character . So , Happy Caturday !
  6. Chrysler's paint code is FK5 , which is a 1970 colour .
  7. I wonder if the tooling still exists for the ol' Monogram 1/32 scale Datsun Pickup ? How about the others ? 1955 Chevy , 1979 Mustang , etc. , etc. ? These would be fantastic slump-busters !
  8. There was a S/SE class ( Super / Stock Eliminator ) ---- I believe that the class you're referring to was "S/SX" or "SS/X" .
  9. Soundtrack the greatest film ever made :
  10. That term as applied to the car could mean : - American Motors "eXperimental" ( AMX -- the car's namesake ) - Test vehicle for the Hurst S/S AMX programme ( I believe that the car was modified similarly to the 1968 Hemi Barracuda --- take a car from the motor pool and modify it for product development purposes ) I believe that AMC did the latter ; took a 390-powered '69 AMX , built it for racing use , then let Shirley Shahan test it . I seem to recall some photos from O.C.I.R. ( Orange County Int'l Raceway ) from late '68 or early '69 with Shahan piloting the test mule .
  11. Shirley Shahan's Hurst / AMX , c.1975 . Back lot of Ricker Motors Nash-Rambler-AMC ---- literally 2 blocks away from where I grew up ! ( photo courtesy of the internet , unknown credit ) EDIT : This is c.1980 . I last saw the car on Ricker's lot around that time . EDIT 2 : My mistake regarding the Hurst / AMX in the photo ---- it is NOT Shirley's after all , but rather a dealership-sponsored car (again , Ricker Motors) : http://www.ssamx.com/29.htm My apologies for the oversite . Shahan's car was # 35 : http://www.superstockamx.com/page48.php
  12. In the meantime , "enjoy" this --------->
  13. That kit and its tooling are sooooooooo oooollllddddddd that its proportions are now akin to a good Palmer kit !
  14. Does anyone else here follow Messi the puma ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messi_(cougar) Here's an image of the little lover :
  15. I needed that laugh so badly ! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! " To boldly go where no man has gone before --- to drink a soda . "
  16. !!! BUMP !!! For this thread / topic . I've been thinking more and more about some of the aforementioned kits in this thread [ bump for Tim Boyd's outstanding Toyota Supra : https://public.fotki.com/funman1712/from-the-pages-of-y/from-the-pages-of-s/from-the-pages-of-s-1/dsc-0206.html#media ] , especially the oddball subcompact "gems" of the 80's ( Cavalier , EXP , wrong-wheel-drive 'Charger' / Shelby edition , Chevette , etc. , etc. ) which we Blank Generation folks grew up with , and I thought , How about a "Collectors' Edition" of sorts ? Like , a kit that includes all of those "gems" in one box ? The decal sheets could also include recall notices ! Haha ! May as well call it something like "T.S.B. Series : 80's Subcompacts" or some-such . Yes , I'm part tongue-in-cheek with the whole recall thing ; but , the prosaic truth is that , I honestly believe that such a 'pack' ( e.g. , 3-5 kits-in-one-box ) would be a hot seller for Round2 !
  17. I've always loved the Duster ( either iteration ; both are 1970 models ) and the 1970 Road Runner RTS cars . For 1971 the only all-new RTS car was the redesigned 1971 Road Runner (albeit , 383-powered vs. the 1970 Hemi) . Have fun replicating that RTS Duster !
  18. Thanks , Tim ( and Bill as well ) . I'd obviously forgotten that 1966 was the last model year for the D-Body Imperial . Those wonderful C-bodies ( I'd love to have a 1974 Monaco 'A38' , 1970-1971 Sport Fury GT (or even an "S-23") , and or a 1969 CHP-spec Polara ) had their share of unique wares ---- how about those Budd disc brakes ? Disc brakes on 1971 Imperials ? ABS on , I believe , 1974 Imperials ? The D-body platform is one of the oft-overlooked platforms in the MoPar realm , as everybody thinks that the full-perimetre frames were gone after 1961 , 1962 . Ever see a 225-powered C-body ? I've only seen them in movies ( namely , The French Connection [1971] , whose garage scenes exhibit a couple of 225-powered 1967-1968 Fury in that NY green / black livery ) .
  19. The only platforms to have a full-perimetre frame or a sub-frame were the D-Body ( Imperial ; a separate line from its Chrysler-branded relatives . 1965 was the last year for the D-body ) and the C-Body ( subframe , similar to G.M.'s Chevy II / Nova / Camaro / Firebird ; 1978 was the last year for the C-Body ) . Chassis pan primer colours varied year-to-year , plant-to-plant . Grey is common ; red oxide was used as well , and ; Los Angeles-built cars used black . All had body colour overspray of varying degrees ; blackout was used on the radiator core support to cover the body colour (though darker colours were oftentimes built sans blackout) ; same with the wheel wells (including dark body colour) . The subframe of the C-bodies ( Monaco , Polara , Fury , New Yorker , 1966 & later Imperial ) was a semi-gloss black , just like the 'K' member of A , B , C , E , F , M , J , and R bodies .
  20. Well , 30-odd years ago MPC did just that with their 1978 Monaco...
  21. One of my favourite kits ( warts and all ) . Excellent execution , Marcos ! I too would like to see some under-bonnet pics !
  22. Oddly ( or not ) MPC's 1972 Road Runner annual kit's customising parts are eerily similar to the 1971 RTS Road Runner ( BTW , what-ever happened to the custom parts from that 1972-only issue ? ) :
  23. The builder's screen name is danja442 .
  24. IIRC , those were exhibited by their builder on the Scale Auto Magazine forum . Unfortunately , I don't remember the builder's name nor his screen-name .
  25. Finally ! No Dukes embellishments , no $500 collectors'-edition-tin-with-a-lithographed-on-a-pinhead-Declaration-of-Independence , and no eBay prices !
