  1. In given circumstances, and this might be one of them, I cut the BMF into thin strips first, then lightly lay it down adjusting as I go. Once satisfied, burnish it down. You'll have a nice crisp edge.
  2. Less is more. Nice work.
  3. FWIW, a while back I entered the Google Archives and gathered up all the surviving photos of all the finishers of each year. I can supplement your thread or put up a companion thread Under Glass when the time comes if there's interest. Likewise 6 years ago. When I think about it, this is what got me also to get back out there after ten years to get fresh paint, glue and tool upgrades and become serious about models again.
  4. X2. I don't collect them, but I don't throw them out either. I downloaded one and printed it out on card stock at work. I use it at my desk as a coin box for the pop machine.
  5. Wow, that's a nice car. Carefully crafted and unique subject.
  6. Open headlights... very clever. It's always a pleasure to see what you've been working on. Keep them coming.
  7. That's a beauty. About as good as it can be done, I'd say.
  8. Looks exactly right. Those wheels look right at home with it.
  9. That was a good time for Ertl trucks.
  10. Not as bad as I expected. Not such a long shot from what could have been for some sort of early 60's TV show... Batman or otherwise.
  11. Haven't you watched those home make over shows? You're supposed to smash everything to bits, regardless of how clean and useful it still is. Looks great though.
  12. These are fantastic models. Superb. Your photography is also quite excellent.
  13. I picked up 202 at the Fargo, ND Barnes & Noble. Thought my subscription had run out (it hadn't) and was happy to find this on the shelf.
  14. I'm usually called "methodical." Which is boss speak (and GF speak) for "Quit wasting time on getting it right and just carp it out!"
  15. I love how half the film descriptions begin with "A racing driver..."
  16. That's a great visualization of the scale. A good case of a picture being worth a thousand words.
  17. Yeah, those magazine blurbs are as good as, or better than a win as far as I'm concerned. That carny wagon is definitely worthy.
  18. Done.
  19. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the most informed modeler, so I find this comment very hopeful. Since I do build mostly the older stuff, I just find the loss of Modelhaus leaving a cavernous hole in the after market. So sometimes I may need to be reminded there are far more resources available than I'm aware of. I hope so anyway.
  20. This is the biggest question mark of the future. If (when) it becomes very high def, user friendly and economical it could be a whole new boon.
  21. My condolences to your wife and for her suffering. But what I'm also reading is your commitment to her and to the care you give her. I find that inspiring.
  22. While the staple model kit makers soar to new heights with new offerings and repops, the staple cottage industry seems to be entering the retirement home. It's been easy to take for granted our aftermarket super heroes like the Modelhaus, Billy Gooche decals, Fred Cady and many more. But the business is taxing on the best of them and as they age, at some point they have to put their priorities on life challenges and desires bigger than the hobby. Do the new industry offerings offset the cottage industry losses in terms of hobby health or does the quiet exit of after-marketers foretell the quiet exit of modelers in general? What impact is the loss of after-marketers having on your hobby involvement?
  23. Like most of us, I'm a big fan of his work. But this seems like the easy answer. If he could do people well, they wouldn't interfere with the photo. They would enhance it and viewers would not be less involved in his accomplishment. But at least he knows where to draw the line. I wonder if he's tried adding people at some point and didn't like the results.
  24. Flash is present so some of those plentiful fiddly parts will require even more time and care. Otherwise, I agree with everything Bill said. It looks so good it's always tempting to dive in if I know I have the time to afford.
  25. You really captured it! A lot of hard work paid off. Pretty cool.
