I really hope that someone fact-checks before those wheel covers wind up in a Boss 351 kit.....

Tamiya makes a pink primer, along with white and grey. It is primarily designed to go under red, but I was pleased with how it worked under orange on the Chevy engine.

Just for fun, I used Tamiya pink primer on my 69 Chevelle's engine, then 1:1 engine paint. I really like the way it turned out. I would probably use the pink again if I was going to paint a body orange.

Picked up a blue Maisto Chevy Colorado at HL last Thursday. Got it home and unboxed it. It looks like they ran out of paint by the time they got to the bed. Wasn't really obvious through the clear plastic on the box. I returned it yesterday. Too bad, it was nicely done otherwise. I might look online for a white one. Looks like they also make a modern Ranger as well.

Yeah, what Snake said. I buy kits from HL, but they have a poor selection overall and it seems to take forever for them to get the new stuff (except the 64 Belvedere which I have no intentions of buying). Other kits, paint, BMF, etc. comes from the LHS. I bought one new Revell kit and one recycled Round2 kit from the LHS ($80) a few weeks ago because I didn't want to wait for HL to get them in. A few weeks before that, I bought the Tamiya Mustang GT4 from the LHS.

LOL, it was meant that way. You review stuff that is different, I didn't mean that the reviews themselves were different. You don't want to now what I did to myself the first time I used my mandoline slicer.

You are welcome! Your kit reviews are different than most, and I appreciate that.

Not to derail your thread, but I am going to be watching your build. I have never had one of these myself. Last weekend, a mother and her son approached me at HL and asked me a bunch of questions about paint, tools, glue, etc. She was trying to get him off of full time video games and they decided that he needed to build a model car. This is the kit he chose for his first-ever model. Not sure how old, I would say 14-15. I hope he has fun and doesn't run into too many issues with the kit. Beautiful blue BTW.

It's been a zillion years since I built one of these things, but my guess is that the chrome one is a magneto for the 409 that is no longer in the kit.

Modelhaus, has anyone out there bought the business?

Molds don't last forever. Who knows how many of the masters Don is in possession of so new molds could be made if someone wanted to. -
I was just at my closest HL and I am not sure what is going on with their cases This is what is currently on the shelf, along with a very few of the older style. "Entrust Collecting" purports to be in OK City, so maybe HL has launched their own label. Didn't see any mirrored bottom cases. One of the other stores had all of their cases together, like the big wood and glass ones plus the model-sized ones.

40% off all model kits at HL
Rodent replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The 40% didn't excite me all that much. I don't need much right now and I have a HL about 15 minutes away and another in a part of town that isn't unusual for me to be in on Saturday. There are a few things there that I eventually want, but I can wait and get them one at a time with a coupon. I totally understand that this is huge for those of you who have to drive an hour or more to get to a HL. I was just at the closest one this afternoon and didn't come home with anything. -
I have several of the "CD" (mirrored botom) cases and they are very nice. In last year's reset, HL had them marked down to less than $4, so I stocked up. I have four of their 1/64th scale big rig cases on my desk at work. You can put 10-12 1/64th scale cars sideways in each one. I will definitely order a case the next time I need some.

Mr Color #68 Red Madder equivalent ?
Rodent replied to fat50's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
LHS need to grow up and realize this if they want to survive. It's not 1967 anymore. The best LHS we had closed a number of years ago because they were tired of running it. They had a "clearance" sale and I suggested they list their stuff on eBay. Got a deer in the headlights look. Found out that most of the family had never been on an airplane.... -
! Not News , But Still Irritating ...
Rodent replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Rustoleum 2X aluminum is amazing. It covers completely with just a small puff of paint. I have been having trouble finding their other metallic colors, but I think I will look online. The Metalizer stainless steel was my go-to for exhaust systems, but I am sure I can find something else. -
Airbrushing: Jumping in with both feet and my wallet.
Rodent replied to Bills72sj's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Nothing to do with paint, but I have been carefully dipping my (hairy) big toe into doing some baking for the last year or so. Having a scale to weigh the dry ingredients is very important, especially the flour. Just want to agree that weight of ingredients is better than volume if you are looking for consistency. Paint or bread.- 72 replies

By the way, for those of us "rule breakers" that don't want to follow the instructions due to ease of painting or whatever..... The instructions call for mounting the engine to the frame before mounting the frame to the floorpan. It's not a big deal, but you will have to remove the locating pin from the transmission tailshaft housing to get the engine in if you assemble the frame and floorpan before mounting the engine. The engine mounts are positive enough that you don't need the extra pin location on the transmission.
