What did you see on the road today?
Rodent replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have enjoyed traveling in Ontario. There seems to be a huge amount of completely random older cars roaming the backroads as soon as the snow melts. -
Thanks for answering, appreciate it. Obviously, I meant "NO" paint. After the pink primer experiment, I would definitely use it over primer. I have found in the past that engine paint can take several coats to look right over bare plastic. Using it over the primer made it cover better with no obscuring of detail.

I guess I will never know the answer. Seller refunded me and asked for the car back.

Not my dog, the spouse's niece's dog. I really don't remember why they named him that, but they said that he looked like a Murray. He has been gone for a long time now, replaced by Mojo and another one who's name I can't remember.

My spouse's great niece and her husband used to have a sweet but dumb mutt. They traveled a bit, and usually tried to get a member of their "pod" to take care of him. If that didn't work out, they had a favorite kennel that was run by wonderful folks that loved dogs. Lots of play time and Murray had "dog friends" that he got to play with when they left him there. Long story short, just the opposite of your story. They would pick him up, but he wanted to stay at the kennel. He had lots of love at home, but really enjoyed "doggie camp".

We will see what happens with the seller's claim. I can't believe that they will want me to send it back, but who knows?

I got a smashed promo today, thanks to a seller who thought that a bigger box was a better box and the USPS. Don't want to say more because the seller is working on making it right and I appreciate that.

It's a 66 Johan and it seems kind of like the mid 60s AMT promos that I have. I think it will require reinforcement behind it, but I was wondering how to take care of the cracked area on the surface. I was thinking of Plastruct cement or even the commercial stuff for schedule 40 sprinkler pipe. We will see what happens after the seller submits a damage claim. Thanks guys!

Guys, what is the best type of glue to use on a mid 1960s promo. I guess these are ABS? I have one that may be saveable, but the body is broken. I am thinking that 5-minute epoxy and reinforcing the back side? Car was destined to be stripped and repainted anyway. TIA

'90-'92 Cougar undercarriage and engine block colors?
Rodent replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I worked for Ford when these cars were new, but have successfully blocked out the memories of how they looked underneath. As a general rule non-aluminum undercar parts were "minimally painted" and axle housings and other things looked rusty very quickly, even in California. Steel control arms seemed to have some kind of coating on them and aluminum parts were bare. I had a new Fox-Body Mustang and it was some kind of lightly sprayed gray coating underneath much like you see with the Cougar. Around 1983, the 5.0L engines started coming in a medium gray for the block, heads, and oil pan. Timing cover, water pump, valve covers, and intake were aluminum. I can't remember if the 3.8L S/C was painted the same the same or not. S/C heads were aluminum. -

Did you see the Birthdays on the Sidebar?
Rodent replied to stavanzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That. Putting your real birth date on the internet isn't a great idea. I have my month/day on here but not the year. -
Sierra Gold and India Ivory is an iconic '57 Chevy two tone combination. I am looking forward to Steve building something "out of the box" and those are very attractive colors.

Specific questions about the late 70s early 80s
Rodent replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yeah, that. And other beverages and adult "cigarettes". I live near to the lower American River and I have been amazed at how many folks don't wear life jackets when they go rafting. The rented rafts come with life jackets. There are "free" life jackets at all of the popular launching points, adult and child sized. Take one, throw it on the ground when you get out of the river and they get cleaned and returned to the launching points. It's the law that children wear them, but it seems that most don't. This pic was taken in 2016 at one of the most popular launch points during a Rafters Gone Wild day. You can see how many life jackets are in use. Apologies in advance for posting a pic of scantily clad humans, some minors included. It's not exactly white water rafting, but there are plenty of things to get snagged on and spit out of your raft/pool toy/inflatable kayak. There is a bit of a rapid and an abrupt turn downstream, just out of the photo a bit. There is pretty much no water (again) this year, but a rafter managed to lose his prosthetic leg there over Memorial Day. (Spoiler alert, some hobby divers found it and returned it to him). I am sure that Espo (and others) know where this pic was taken. -
