  1. This model is very cool! The mod top wasn’t viewed as cool back in the day. A buddy-0-mine bought a 68 or 69 Roadrunner around 1976 for $600. If I remember correct it was a 383 4 speed car in metallic green with the mod top. We called it the shower curtain. He promptly tore it off the car leaving that mess of glue and rust showing. I don’t believe he was able to do anything beyond that as a no funds 18 year old. The interior remained. The car was short lived with him because it ran poorly.
  2. Great story! Models with a family connection are the best ones!
  3. I use this battery power drill. I runs on two C cells I replace every few years. It is eXacto branded and I have it 25 years or more. I haven’t seen another or anything like it since. Closest is the new Tamiya drill you must assemble. I just ordered some bits on EBay last night. As Charlie said, the important ones to me are 70 and 72 for straight pins and engine wiring. Seller is Dragonsupply and bits were $5.78 per 10 in a small tube, postpaid. Seller is listed as California. It did say country of origin of the product was China, so let’s see where the package actually comes from. I ordered 1 Pack of each size. Within an hour I got the “Shipped” notice, so we will see! Don’t go flooding this vendor with orders just yet. I will add my experience to this thread.
  4. The bubble mailer is the MO of Amazon Fulfillment Services. Some big sellers are on both eBay and Amazon and use the service for both. Look at where the vendor is located and where the package came from
  5. Got the new Pace spray booth set up today. I have the old table / cart that held a tv in my model room forever. It was exactly the right size. I wanted the booth at standing height, so I made the box it’s sitting on, which also gives me two shelves. In the morning I will go to Home Depot for a vent kit. I did run the fan and it seems to be powerful. We will see. The Pace product is well made and sturdy. They shipped within a week.
  6. That would be nice! They produced that nice 56 Nomad prior to one of their take overs.. maybe if things stayed stable back then they would’ve
  7. Because they have ignored the virus gathering restrictions put forth by the state. And not prudent to be attending these. Should be happy you just got sent home and not ticketed
  8. I too subscribed for as long as I was in the hobby. The magazine was responsible for the comeback of the hobby and many of us returning as well. For me I found it on a news stand in Boston while on a business trip. There was a classified ad for the Tri-state Scale Model Car Club.. the rest is history!
  9. As a kid I was in love with the box art on the original 57 Nomad kit. I bought it and at 11 I failed miserably! I tried a few more times, each time reasoning I was older and more skilled. The last time I was 30 and still no finished model! At the first GSL I attended there was a panel discussion with the old Revell team. During the audience participation time I told that story. Everyone got a chuckle. Afterwards Bob Paeth found me and spent at least an hour telling me the entire story behind that kit’s box. I appreciated that greatly, and the next GSL I brought the box top for him to sign.
  10. Make that the first GSL I attended!
  11. Spattered with blood ?
  12. That’s my MO too.. Tamiya for important edges, blue for the rest. Mike is right. I take tape off as soon as possible.
  13. We are friggin old men and we want silver wheels dammit! ? To me there is no contrast between a black wheel and the tire.. reminds me of cars with no wheel covers, just the old steel wheel showing
  14. The Revell kit was typical of their cars of that era. Over ambitious things like opening doors etc that didn’t fit well. Poor shape definition, not easy to get a decent replica from. Totally beyond the teen modelers that we’re the target audience. The Monogram also had some issues with the look of the front end, and more to the skill level of their target audience, but simplistic for today’s market. Also it’s 1/24 scale so if you were doing a line of Nomads, it would be a bit larger. The best Nomad kit is the Revell 56, which was tooled in modern times and has more the definition and parts count we want today. Immediately on its release, people were kit bashing 57 Nomads from this kit and the contemporary 57 hardtop kit. But today MCW has already done that work and you can buy a nice resin for a reasonable price.
  15. Yup, received mine yesterday as well. Sad, truly the end of an era! And right before I got that issue I got a renewal from Fine Scale in the swapped subscription!
  16. Did they only use colors listed in the Revell paint series? Could be.
  17. I’ve been busy on other avenues, but today I’m cleaning the model workshop to bring in my new spray booth. Hoping to get some work done on Jeepster after that!
  18. Then think about what tape you are using to avoid repeats! Tamiya tape is best, More expensive Than cheap masking tape but cheaper than multiple paint jobs and bodies
  19. The 55 and 56 Nomads are decent kits. Just put an eBay search agent on it and you’ll get emails as they become available. One at a decent price will come along! For 57 I never liked either kit, best option is MCW does a nice resin version.
  20. As a Deora fan I approve of this model!
  21. Picture is a joke. I actually finally broke down and bought a Pace spray booth. Will be setting it up this weekend
