1960 Ford Ranchero
Tom Geiger replied to Brizio's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Note- nobody said you need to use that interior! Back when I redid my first original I was missing an interior. I used a shortened 66 Tbird bucket with the Ranchero dashboard. -
Me thinks there are several if not many factors in play here... Supply chain issues of kit shipments from China. Between their shutdowns and our shutdowns... There is less product Surge in model purchases due to Covid lockdowns. We have all seen new people getting back into hobby to occupy their time. They all had to buy models. Note that the puzzle aisles in Walmart were stripped bare early in the crisis, back before Hobby Lobby was allowed to reopen. Revell changes.. I don’t believe their production and shipments are up to full speed just yet. And of course HLs 40% off sales. Posts from modelers on the board and Facebook showing stacks of models some guys bought.

Mission Impossible - American Graffiti cop car from a wreck
Tom Geiger replied to alan barton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks surprisingly well! Keep on moving forward! I love when a project takes on a life of its own! -
I have two stores locally. One I could walk to if I wanted (Exton,PA), and a second store on my way home from work (King of Prussia, PA). On Friday I stopped in the King of Prussia store. They had two Land Rovers, I didn’t buy any as I already have one. No clearance kits. I just grabbed a spray can of Testors I needed and used my coupon. I thought about stopping at the second store, but that would’ve been too much excitement in one day! ?

It would be cool to find these accessory packs again. I wouldn’t offer them separately, parts packs have done poorly in recent history. I would do a new release of one of the van kits, with all that van’s custom accessories opened up and include this van parts set! Now you have a super custom van kit!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I’m glad we are in a new round. I was feeling a lot of pressure, and now have some breathing room to do it right rather than quickly slamming it together! My project had gone down that road to overcomplicatus. I started out just wanting to finish assembly of the kit. Then I decided to swap in a four cylinder engine, vs the kits V6. That was a lot more work than anticipated. I had to relocate the trans mount and then change lengths of both driveshafts and rework the exhaust system. It also required redoing the floor to accommodate the trans and transfer case. Then I addressed the thing that stopped my original build.. the way the box was molded to the interior and lack of inside side panels. That caused re-engineering everything! And when I walked away for a few weeks I forgot how this puzzle assembled! And not to forget that I am actually building two of these at the same time! The red pickup is in this event, while the four seater convertible doesn’t qualify since it’s a new build cobbled together from my Jeepster parts box. Play on! Both Jeepster chassis mocked up. The red pickup has a four, the other has the kit’s V6. Re-engineered bed assembly with inside panels. It was just a void in the kit. Re-engineered floor to fit 4 cylinder trans and transfer case. Body in first coats of paint, test fit of roof onto re-engineered interior etc. Chassis with four glued in place with new driveshafts and exhaust in place Up on wheels. I ran out of paint, was fortunate that Pep Boys still had same color Duplicolor. Onward and upward! -
My wife’s brothers! They can give you any sports stat but cannot tell you what kind of car they drive! Her eldest brother told me he bought his daughter a car. I asked what kind? And he had to hang up to go outside to look. He rings me back. “It’s a Ford!” So I ask him what model and he groans. That was another trip outside!

Very cool build! Haven’t seen anything like this before! I am a fan of the new Fiats. My daughter bought a new convertible when they first came out. Has over 140,000 commuter miles on it with zero trouble.

Bingo! Last year I did an equipment assessment for Facebook Labs in Redmond, Washington. This is a huge multi building complex where they are inventing and designing a new generation of optics for the online experience. Anyway, we went through the labs and shops cataloging all the equipment and assessing if it was fit for use. There was one large shop full of equipment sourced at Harbor Freight. I couldn’t believe the stuff there was actually available for sale in the USA. Not UL certified, missing electric shut offs and safeties and even physical guards. I red tagged nearly the entire shop for removal!

Scale Auto Web Site
Tom Geiger replied to Chuckyg1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You’d think they’d keep the name alive online since Scale Auto is a valued trademark. It would have allowed them to still put out occasional content, and have the door open for it to come back as a digital magazine in the future. -
Who Has all the molds ?
Tom Geiger replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave actually announced that he was going to do the 59 Rambler wagon along with Moebius. I believe Moebius was offered the tools that Okey had bought at auction. I believe another of the kits offered was the promo style version of the Chrysler Turbine car. After Okey released a few kits, he sent out an email to a bunch of people looking for I believe was around $50,000 because someone had his tooling. I can only assume from that he couldn’t pay for either the run of kits or work done on the tools and they were repossessed. That could be the party offering them for sale. i believe we can quantify which tools Okey had from the first sales flyer he put out. Casey had posted it the last time it was discussed. So we can theorize that there are at least two lots, maybe three, of Johan tools out there. If in poor condition and missing parts, the party to buy these would be Round 2. -

Spray Cans With Pace Spray Booth?
Tom Geiger replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you Misha and Skip for your time and information. I did christen the Pace last weekend. Pretty much just sprayed small parts. I’ve already noticed the absence of odor, much better than my old plastic tub booth! The filter is just a simple 24x12x1 furnace filter and you can already see it will get dirty! I’m figuring I’ll have to change it between each project. I did line my booth. I extended my reach forward with a piece of poster board as a base that extends further than the sheet metal. The sides are brown paper this round. As Misha mentioned, about running the booth pre and after use, I pretty much run it my entire build session like a lab fume hood just to pull glue and paint smells out of the room. The wife factor! -
Who Has all the molds ?

Never say never. There’s still some surprises possible from the tools both Round 2 and Atlantis now have. -

I want to see the painting instructions for this kit! Maybe FSM can do a several page article on detailing the kit?

Be careful with that body. It is clear plastic and as brittle as windshields of that era. BTW, those metallic cars were Jim Keeler’s idea.
