A few new Round 2 kit coming out ......
Tom Geiger replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
These days companies want to be paid to use their trademarks. A complicated issue -
My very best wishes to you and your wife. It’s amazing what doctors can do today! About 15 years ago my wife needed a valve repair. It was going to be the full open chest crack. The surgeon opted not to do the surgery, she could wait. They’d watch her closely and decide when it was necessary. About 5 years ago it was time. Medical science had advanced enough that the surgery was less invasive and was accomplished through a small incision in her side. Much better. And she’s been fine ever since. I wish the same for your wife!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
And a step backwards! I was spraying the body of the Jeepster today and it came off the paint stand and fell into the abyss in the bottom of my paint booth! I set it aside to dry and will look for damage in the morning. Argh!? -

A few more.. Lindberg Trailblazer.. I have a Jeep chassis under it. Left one is stock Gull wing Studebaker... my first attempt at a major mashup some 30 years ago. It didn’t sit straight and the paint sucked. Was assembled at one point then taken back apart as above. Below is how it looks today VW project to match Sketch Pad drawing -

Looks good, especially for a first attempt! It’s a fairly simple kit that lets you concentrate on the basics. I built one a while back and agree it’s huge! -
Ha! It’s kinda funny, our HOA has those rules. Our HOA inherited the standard boilerplate rules that Toll Brothers starts out each community with. It’s been modified a couple of times to ease restrictions and to allow materials that didn’t exist before like types of fence. Mailboxes- we have curbside boxes. The HOA rules pretty much mirror USPS regulations. The HOA has a preferred vendor who charges about what it would cost me to buy the materials. Lawn mowing- yes it needs to be done per not only HOA but per town codes. Again HOA has a vendor who has the contract to do the common areas. They give the best price anywhere on the bulk contract. $30 to mow my acre? Go for it! I don’t even need to own a mower. Parking in street- only restriction is over night parking. It’s not even questioned ever if you have a party and overnight guests. All the homes have long driveways and ample off street parking anyway. I left a car for sale out front for a few weeks and wasn’t questioned. Working on cars- in the rules but not an issue unless you were doing something drastic like oil running down the driveway and into the street. My mailbox, that’s the standard post. There is a bit of a mailbox garden competition here. My planting is a brandywine bush and lambs ear.. because the deer won’t eat them! You may get a note in your mailbox from mailman if it’s too overgrown to deliver!

You may not need the software.. plug camera into computer.. go to the top level folder ( where you see drives like C:/ etc) and see if camera is listed. If so, click on it and you should be able to see it as a drive and access your photos

Great build Jim! I like the colors you chose -
I built these a while ago and pulled up the pickup photos today for an orange theme in a Facebook model group. So I thought I’d share them as a pair here. Pickup was built as part of the 24 Hour Build a few years ago. No, I didn’t finish in time! I did make the 24 Hour Builders decals. The finicky fit and cleanup requirements of this kit took me quite a bit longer. I glued the doors shut and made appropriate size hinges to match the van. I also did a matching license plate. Once I was way beyond the time requirements I decided to have some fun and made this exhaust system. Used the kit 273 engine with zero detail since it’s buried up there. Once I glued the doors shut, I had to glue the interior engine cover in place. I did make bases for some custom buckets. I added my usual seat belts and glued down some paper with the pattern on it for carpet mats The van was done earlier and was a long languishing project. I finally finished it one year as a Christmas Amnesty Project. It is the Jimmy Flintstone resin body. It’s a replica of a van a friend drove back in 1977, as close as memory will allow. I posted it in my town’s Facebook group and people identified it! My buddy Don had the rearranged letters to spell DOG. The plate is a tribute to him. The van was brush painted over riveted rust repairs and I tried to capture that aura. Greatful Dead stickers were saved for years, came from my cd club newsletter before we had the option to size and print our own! The real van had a slant six so I included one. I only finished the bottom end of a scrap engine from an old built up. I made exhaust. Interior used a sheet of self adhesive doll house carpet. I hope you enjoyed seeing this pair!

An awful lot

Which is better? Having a few dozen nicely done detailed, modified and unique models, or a hundred quick hack jobs that you don’t have the space to display? Randy, I’m a lot like you. The must clean up the molding issues. I prime, use mostly Duplicolor, and my own sense of satisfaction demands I do the best job I can. I do wire engines and even add little bits like photo etch and ribbon seat belts, valve stems and photo reduced license plates. I find the little details don’t take much effort and are pleasing. I believe many if not most of us on the board see modeling as our art and seek to satisfy a certain vision in our mind with each build.

1958 Plymouth side trim help?
Tom Geiger replied to mopargreg's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I’m looking at building mine the way it is. That’s better than being paralyzed to not building one. I do know that when I do and post it Under Glass, instead of admiring my build, guys will post stupid comments about the trim -

That would be cool to pull up and put in a museum. I don’t think it will run though! -

A double edged sword! When we first moved here the HOA was heavy handed and in your face if you had a single dead branch up high in a tree. That guy sold and moved and the board is now reasonable and only acts if there are complaints or something is really out of line. We don’t want cars up on blocks, or ugly chain link fences across front yards. Another good thing and one of my peeves is we don’t allow people to plaster solar panels across front roofs. Only on rear roofs not visible from the street.

1958 Plymouth side trim help?

For all The whining, I can hardly see the difference in the photos. It’s like the side windows on the 55 Chevy pickup. -

Taking a break from the workbench
Tom Geiger replied to Hotrod 97's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Life happens! At the beginning of the pandemic I hunkered down and spent a load of time at the bench. In the last month I’m spending my time on home improvements. Use of some of the same skills, a bit more physically exhausting, same kind of satisfaction!
