  1. Yes, I have the issue. I’ve wondered if the free instructions Autoworld gave out were a copy of the article or something different. I’ve been told it was a copy.
  2. So cool that you had this! First time I’m seeing it. Does anyone have any others? Especially interested in the Bobtail Cat.
  3. Mine has been open, I’ve only gone twice midweek so it wasn’t all that crowded. First trip I got the BSI thick ca glue I needed. I am surprised how far I nursed my last bottle along during the shutdown. And I got two cans of Testors Extreme sprays to use on my Jeepster. That’s it! Second trip was just to see if they had gotten the 67 Chevy, but they hadn’t so I left empty handed.
  4. Welcome David and Mike! As you said, this site is a treasure trove of information. Every thread from the beginning is still accessible! Plus the brain trust here is terrific, knowledgeable folks willing to help! Enjoy!
  5. Very cool model mate!
  6. Interesting that the alcohol bath didn’t work, always works for me.
  7. Actually your best option is to buy the Revell 56 Nomad and bash it with the 57 Black Widow kit. There was a resin of this. Neither of the existing 57 Nomad kits are all that good.
  8. Power washed my bridge today! I had been putting it off, but was reminded every time I looked out the window. Feels good! As soon as we hit a dry spell of a few days in a row I will stain it.
  9. I had been asking about those instructions from Auto World, was most interested in the Bobtail Cat. Nobody could come up with a set, but consensus was that they were just a reprint of the articles from Car Model Magazine
  10. The Shamrock in the museum is the real deal. The rest of Dave Shuklis models are there too
  11. I rebuild a lot of ancient relics where kids have been more than generous with the glue. In most cases it’s model cement, and there’s a few things to do. First I access how hard the parts are glued on. There are times you can get an exacto knife under an edge and it just pops off. Other times, like in the case where engine halves are glued together, just leave it and sand off the glue mess. If you strip chrome, sometimes the glue is on top of it and will flake off as the chrome under it dissolves For instance the below photographs are the before and after. This photo is how I got it in a bag. It was so gluey you can see glue smears on the fender tops! Some parts just popped apart as described above. Then I dampened it and put it in the freezer to loosen joints. The water in joints will expand as it freezes and make parts easier to pop apart. On this one much of it came apart. Some parts shattered and were replaced from my parts kits. The pickup bed held fast and I decided to work around it being permanently mounted on the frame. Be patient and work each challenge. Sand the smears flat, prime and access if they need more work. In the end, The Blue Beetle rides again! Good luck!
  12. Agreed. My wife bought her 74 V6 coupe from a friend who married a military man and was going overseas in 1976. Never a problem! Traded it in on one of the brand new Fox body Capris. That car was nothing but trouble from the day it was new! Traded that one in on a Nissan in 1982 with 30,000 miles on it just to make it go away!
  13. Either of the above two products are made for affixing clear glass and work well. The Evergreen product is sold at Hobby Lobby. This Is clear double sided tape I got at Michaels. This also works well on glass either by itself or in combination with above glues. I’ve secured glass in place with tape along stop and bottom edges, then filled in the remaining seams with glue
  14. Hey! The past two days have been fitting the bed into the Jeepster. I’ve done several takes on the bed sides, the beauty of sheet plastic, you aren’t ruining your one set of kit parts. The above photo are the losers, the final well fitting pieces are now glued to the body. As mentioned, I cut the bed and interior apart. The bed is now part of the body. The bed sides and bed itself, with the added ribs, are now glued into the body. Since this photo I have puttied in the edges and today will sand. Note that the interior is just mocked up with tape, including the bed front wall. It keys into the bed well. Another important fit is the cab roof to the cab back wall / bed front wall. I’m fiddling with that fit now. The bed was the thing that shelved this model some dozen years ago so I’m happy to have figured it out! And I realize in the time it’s taken me to fit this bed, there are folks who have built entire models!
  15. Very cool model! Neat that you got the first one done quickly. It surely adds to that entire year run of Chevys
  16. Mark, were the building instructions copies of the magazine articles? Or a separate Auto World piece?
  17. I got in a few hours at the bench today! And figured out the bed assembly on my Jeepster. Satisfying!
  18. Said nobody ever ? I just had to say it!
  19. Gotcha Adam! I am suffering through a pair of ancient MPC Jeepsters right now. I’m practically scratch building the bed to get a decent pickup outta one!
