AMT Ford Courier Pickup. Any good?
Tom Geiger replied to pharoah's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Agreed! My Barracuda sunroof never leaked in the 30 years I owned it. I did see a duplicate kit at a swap meet and bought it as a spare just in case. My 1982 Nissan Stanza had a factory sliding sunroof that never fit well and always leaked. It did have two drains that always clogged. I was forever cleaning them out. Finally when the car got old and I was the primary driver I got tired of getting wet and siliconed the darn thing shut. -
I always loved this car! Back in the day it was an interesting shape that stood out. My bro-in-law was a mechanic and had a client who had a silver Merkur. He asked me to take it out for a quick run to warm it up and man! Even with the four it was fun to drive. I wanted one ever since! The car was not marketed well by Ford in the US, and although Car if the Year in Europe, Americans just didn’t get it. I do have the kit, which was my very first Tamiya kit. In the era when US kits were just parts slammed into the box, I was very impressed with the divisions and presentation inside the Tamiya box. In fact so impressed I wrote an article about this for my club newsletter and that US manufacturers should take notice!

Working on the Jeepster which went from an easy assembly project to major changes. I’ve changed out the V6 for a 4 and now am working to create a pickup box in the kit deficient void. Although I’m not working during the pandemic, I’ve been involved in outdoor projects while the weather is nice -

Revell 1937 Ford Pickup

Very cool -
With Noblng’s assistance regarding the number of ribs in the Jeepster bed, I added them today. Thanks again! One issue with this kit is a thin single side wall and poorly defined and poorly fitting bed. I have separated the bed from the interior floor so I can mold the bed into the body. That will allow me to seal all the gaps and then paint the body / bed as a unit, like a lot of pickup kits. Photo is mock up one of many..

AMT Ford Courier Pickup. Any good?
Tom Geiger replied to pharoah's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Maybe not. If that was the typical third party installed pop up sunroof of that era. Those were installed so the entire assembly was higher than the surrounding roof so rain would roll off it. I had one in my 65 Barracuda and it never leaked. -
There is also an AMT annual of the 74. Note that it has a different nose from the other year Mustang IIs since they modified it in 75 to allow for a V8 engine. When I met my wife she had a 74 V6 coupe. In 79 she just had to have a new car and traded it in on a 79 Capri... big mistake.

I checked today.. no 67 Impalas! I even checked the empty spots and they were all marked for other kits. I left the store empty handed -

Hmmm... weighing in on Chevys.. As a kid I liked the 57. There was a two door wagon in my neighborhood that wanted. I owned a 56, I liked it because the 55 and 57 get more attention, almost like owning the forgotten year. You always equate cars to your experience with them. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when you see one. In this case, my aunt was killed in an accident in a 67. This was my father’s sister who left behind 3 small kids. Some underage teen stole his father’s car and t-boned the Chevy at high speed in a housing development. Tragic for my family. In 1969 I lived near a Chevy dealer, and I’ve always liked the wrap around bumper 69 Chevy design. I felt the 1970 design was a letdown back then. Little did I know I’d own one someday! I got used to it! My father had a 71 and I thought that was a very pleasing front end design.

I built this Corvette many years ago as part of a club project. That got me going on this Corvette curbside and how I could make it stand out as a mild custom. This is a Duplicolor blue and red. It came out very well with no clear or polish. Wheels and tires came in the kit. I did look at other options, but they fit what I was trying to do. Interior is stock from the box. I remember enjoying the detail painting. I did away with the bumpers and reshaped the rear to accept the Deora tail light. It sorta kind fits! Front end got the kit headlights filled in and an interesting pair inserted in the grill. Bet you wouldn’t have guessed they were the headrests from the Fireball 500 kit! Grill is a short section of a custom one from some kit. This was a fun, low pressure project that was fun to build without the pressure of a full detail kit. It looks nice on my shelf and surprises people since it’s far from my normal builds! Anyone next with a Covid Car Show post?

Hey! I have an idea.. as I was going through my Fotki albums I realized I had models I had never posted here on the board, or at least in a very long time. So why not post them here? Let’s fill up the Under Glass categories with neat builds to give folks some content to read? Tag your post as “Covid Car Show” since it’s a virtual car show in lieu of the 1:1 car shows we are missing! Here goes... Here’s the Beverly Hills Hornet. I built this one back in 2010. It is a combination of the old Monogram Green Hornet chassis and the Beverly Hillbillies Olds truck. From the Olds I took the main cab, custom pickup bed, custom engine and wheel / tire set. The bed is the custom one for Jethro’s rod. I did cut down the length at the front. When I saw this part in the kit, I immediately wanted to use it on a project since I never saw it done. California plate reads BH HORNET Interior has photo etched gauges, brass pin knobs and I hand wood grained it. The Hornet kit only has one seat with a fuel tank in the passenger position so I took a seat from a second kit. The shifter is a pin, where I painted the white dot and added an 8 decal from some decal sheet where it was a decal number. I made the gas tank from Evergreen tube, and found a pair of round disks to fit in my parts box. I did wood grain the bed using Testors acrylics per a method that Irv Arter taught. This was my first try and it worked well. Custom Olds engine from the kit. Headers came from the boat in the Model King release of the 1970 Pontiac. The body is not glued to the chassis, which is the way the kit was designed. I love this Green Hornet chassis and have future projects in mind for it. The Hornet had the open floor so I built it this way. And since it was all open, I scratch built a shifter assembly complete with rods, simply to see if I could do it! The Beverly Hills Hornet is still one of my favorite models. Hope you enjoyed reading about it! Sooo, who will post next? And here we are with a stock build of the Green Hornet.
