What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Tom Geiger replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I saw this box of old postcards up for bid on eBay. Just for fun, I threw in a bid and was surprised when I got it for $100. I was even more surprised when I received the package... I thought it was a shoebox full of cards... but instead it was near 20 pounds and 1000s of cards. It's been so interesting sorting through it all, when I saw same vendor put up another box, I grabbed that one too! Normally when you buy a lot like this, it's already been sorted through for all the good stuff. I was surprised that I found plenty of goodies and the age variety of back to the beginning in 1903 to the chrome card era of the 1970s. Here's some stuff I thought you folks might like to see... Auto manufacturers, these all date from the teens through the 1930s. All marked so I don't have to 'splain! Some Ford related cards... Busses from various eras.. Some cars... check out that Sears Motorcycle, that's at least a $10 card! 1920s and 1930s.. I love the first one! Check out the camper behind the Model T on Daytona Beach... and 1950s... Some Ducks... -
Question on display cases
Tom Geiger replied to bob terry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Exactly! I got this for free from a furniture consignment store. Someone bought the rest of the set, didn't want the cabinet. It's seven feet tall, fortunately I have nine foot ceilings! I paid them $50 to deliver it. Paid $180 to add the glass shelves. Monies well spent! I also have an older and shorter China cabinet upstairs in the model room, another freebie! It was left behind in a house my sister bought. -
I use my own name on the model boards. In the past I used Model Citizen and did a column in my club newsletter called “The Model Citizen”. My AOL user name was modlcitizn since early on they were limited to nine characters. As you mentioned work, I once worked in a large drafting room at Exxon R&D. There were three Toms and the solution was that nobody got called Tom. The other two were known as Junior and Senior since they were indeed father and son. It was procedure there that we all signed our drawings with our initials so I became TAG!

That’s their prerogative, they an ask a million dollars and not back down a dime! A while back I sent in an offer for a kit and it was automatically rejected. So I kept trying. Got within $5 of asking price.. rejected! It expires without any bids. Seller relisted for less than my first offer! So I grabbed it with the Buy It Now! I suspect he didn’t know how to use the software. -

Hey! Glad you reposted your Accord. Nothing wrong with building Hondas! Don't take anything personally, I'm the builder of odd and weird stuff and sometimes my stuff gets a lot of views and no comments. I just laugh and think that the "Big Engine in a Tiny Body" guys looked, saw that my model didn't have a Hemi sticking out of it and moved on! And when you don't get instant, or a lot of comments, keep in mind that there are a lot of readers who don't comment. They very well could enjoy your work. Several to many times I've had someone email me offering me a part I needed or just to say they liked my work. As far as building stuff outside the main interest of the majority of readers, you may be able to teach them something!

Or an old China cabinet.. here's mine. I added an extra shelf between each that came with the cabinet. These are out there cheap to free! -
Neat! I especially like the color! Did you see Chasing Classic Cars last night? The restoration of the Corvair Futura show car! Very interesting episode!

Read this ditty today… Shill bidding in sports card category.. https://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2021/8/1629255806.html -
Due to the way the chassis is configured I can’t adjust the ride height. It would be nice to lower the front. I did detail out the kit provided rolling stock. Added flat black where the slots are and a red stripe.

Nice work and good catch on the mirror. Beware of the steering wheel. Every one I’ve seen on both originals and the modern repops have a mold alignment problem

Looks great! My Dodge D50 pickup is same primer with clear over it

There was a nice 64 on Chasing Classic Cars too! Wayne’s friend had one when the they were young, so he bought one close to it and invited his old friend to drive it on a track

That’s looking at the user end. The big cost would be replacing or upgrading their entire corporate IT network. Enormous! For instance I’m now talking with a major Pharma about doing an upgrade to their global maintenance management system… four years of work projected!

The one thing that ticked me off about this kit… look at the point where the frame rail meets the floor… the interior side panels key into the floor and it’s visible on the finished model. I will fix that on my next build.
