  1. Bingo! If my foggy memory serves me, there was a poll to select the two from a list of Chip's cars. And don't forget the board whining when these kits were announced... guys saying Revell was wasting their money on kits for kids (and in another thread complaining Revell wasn't doing anything to attract kids) and that the money could've gone to tooling up some obscure old car only they would be interested in.. In the end? The Ford pickup and Caddy turned out to be darn decent kits! They are nicely done and go together very well! And our herd responded with building a ton of varieties and their own custom spins off of these. And the parts etc are a great source for other builds. I know I built the pickup as a patina rod, then went back and used the chassis / drivetrain under a Datsun pickup just for fun. I have another 3-4 of these tucked away for the future!
  2. When I see the “Make Offer” icon, I will indeed do so. What they will take varies seller to seller. The software has a function that it will automatically reject offers under a certain amount the seller sets to avoid dealing with pests, so you can receive an immediate rejection and you can try a little higher. It will cut you off after I believe it’s five bad offers on an item. Otherwise, when you submit your offer, you’ll get a message that it’s been submitted to the seller. Then they’ll get back to you accepting, rejecting or countering your offer. I buy a lot more items for my stamp collection than model cars on eBay and I have a list of dealers I buy from regularly. I know the range some of them will accept. Dealers are more receptive to regular customers, especially when you offer on multiple items. For instance there’s a dealer who regularly lists old New Jersey postmarks from obscure or obsolete towns. He lists them at $15 Buy It Now with a Best Offer option. I will go through his listings and send a Best Offer of $10 on one and let hit know I want 5 or 10 (I’ll list the items in the message area). Dealers are more apt to accept an offer to move several items and make it a large sale.
  3. My picks are the 57 Ranch Wagon and the gray 33-34 Ford 4 door sedan patina car… both have me wanting to reach for kits! Some nice cars out in the corn fields! My father was stationed at Fort Riley, so I lived there when I was 1 to 3 years old. Not that I remember much.. just remember going to Dogs And Suds!
  4. Hobby Lobby’s tend to be parallel universes! I’ve been to many stores with the exact same floor plan. Model supplies right down to items being on the same hook!
  5. Sounds like a good ole guy! It’s nice you can give him a home
  6. I haven’t sold on eBay in a dozen years. Every so often I look at it again. Lately I’ve been researching some of the sellers I buy items for my stamp / post card collection from. I buy a lot of low dollar items, sellers who will invoice you for your purchases every 2-3 weeks. I was amazed to see these folks had 80% sell thru and were pulling in $25-50,000 a month! Gotta get me some of that!
  7. I used to own the box art car! Revell had donated a bunch of box art cars to the International Model Car Museum who sold them at the GSL Auction years ago. I gave it away as the raffle prize at NNL East.
  8. I don’t have Netflix. I’ve been watching the Turner Classic Network lately. Putting old movies on DVR.. ones I’ve seen long ago, some I’d never seen and ancient 1920-50s movies just for old cars and giggles.
  9. The original BMF I was introduced to some 30 years ago was best! I immediately took to it, I could do no wrong! I used to do things like wrap entire bumpers. I chromed the entire back panel on a 64 Impala low rider for a friend. I’ve watched the product change over the years. It’s led me to believe, like a lot of aftermarket products, is that it’s produced by others for some other application, bought and repurposed, packaged by the BMF Company. And the original product.. maybe from the electronics industry, has changed or suppliers discontinued and changed.. looking at the sheets, it’s obvious it came from a roll. Can anyone check to see if it has any electrical connectivity? As in would it be a circuit board material? Many years ago there was a black vinyl material.. self adhesive.. that was sold as vinyl top kits.. seller confided in me that it was a boat dashboard cover material.. as an example.
  10. This product isn't targeted at our crowd. They’re appealing to fans if that movie series, especially the younger people. They’re hoping you won’t add up the payments! I can see few completed as people won’t stay interested for three years, especially if the company doesn’t stay afloat!
  11. Bob Pace is an HVAC engineer and his company fabricated ductwork etc. and he designed a paint booth and that business took off. When you look at his products they are all HVAC quality metal and fabrication. The larger 36” booth has a larger fan, no doubt based on the face area of the filter. Someone on one of these boards felt he wanted a stronger fan so he talked with Bob and got a bigger fan as an upgrade. I has inquired both with Pace and unit owners before I bought mine since I mainly use spray cans. Every said I’d be fine and I’ve been pleased. Partly because I understood how exhaust runs and bought new rigid ductwork. It exits through a louver (like a dryer) and when I go outside the exhaust pressure has them fully open. And that’s proper ventilation. I also use the pleated filters they recommend. Pace also sells the filters. Test yours by putting in a new filter. Turn in your fan and spray some colored paint into the booth. Is your filter now that color? Do you not smell paint fumes? Then the booth is working! Back when I had my home made booth I had to take it outside about once a year, take it all apart and vacuum out the ductwork, motor assembly etc. It was always caked with dried paint. I’ve had the Pace a year and opened it up.. nothing past the filter. Complete clean and I’m using spray cans.
  12. Give it a break Jim!
  13. I use canopy cement. There are several brands. Or archive quality double sided clear scrapbook tape for installing glass
  14. I still have to replace the sink trap at my daughter’s condo! I took a week vacation in NJ with my two daughters.. I replaced two toilets at my older daughter’s house.. her husband bought them but not a clue on installation. Then I installed a new float assembly in younger daughter’s condo.. and that’s vacation!
  15. I’ve had this Maisto kit a long time.. in fact I have two of them and no idea where they even came from! It is prepainted nicely in black, body metal, fender unit plastic, and I immediately saw it as a two tone. I didn’t act then but recently pulled it off the kit stack and since I’ve been painting a lot of red lately I gave the fenders a shot of Duplicolor Red primer followed with Cherry Red that my Studebaker Gull Wing is painted. It came out wonderfully! Then I started playing with different Duplicolor reds for the interior. I also wanted to try out embossing powders for carpet so I did that as well. Now a question… Original kit tires / wheels? Very nice units I may wish to save for a different project… Or slot wheels and black walls? Or?
  16. Gotta love the Palmer Falcon! It would be a perfect replica if it wasn’t too short, too tall and too narrow! ?
  17. The only good part of their inefficiency is that they keep a mess of people employed!
  18. I was at my daughters condo last week. Sitting out on her little porch I noticed the delivery vehicles coming all day long! Several Prime truck deliveries.. many unmarked truck and car deliveries all day Iong and it didn’t stop on Sunday! All I could think was it’s a huge waste! Amazon has no order of efficiency like UPS or USPS that sends out everything on a specific route sorted into one truck. I did speak with a young lady delivering a package and she said it’s like a scavenger hunt.. they fill up her van with no rhyme or reason, deliveries in several towns. Very inefficient.
  19. And I don’t! ? I’ll be 63 next month. I have zero interest in super cars, probably because I have no experience or memories of them in my life.
