  1. It’s a funny thing.. This car was part of a series of snap kits made to get kids interested in models. People here moan that our hobby will surely die because the model companies do nothing to attract kids. And when they do we get comments like this!
  2. Very nice! Nothing like a red Challenger!
  3. And that’s sad! This hobby does need a trusted repository for all of our brain trust information. We are losing knowledgeable modelers every year. Before we know it, all our sources will be gone!
  4. I think it’s nice enough to keep on the shelf! There’s plenty more out there that need a big rebuild
  5. No picture!
  6. Ive posted this before, but the mention of dedicated vices made me think of it again. When using some of the smallest bits, I’ve inserted and glued them into a short length of heater hose. It holds secure and the tiny bits don’t get lost.
  7. Wow! Great colors, overall concept and stance!
  8. Hey, at least the package that went to Guam wasn’t the mattresses!
  9. Looks good Tom and Pat! I’ve been poking at three projects, but the boring and frustrating parts!
  10. Looking good Ray!
  11. I bought a $10 pair and soon enough did the same thing.. cut wire or something else hard and destroyed their effectiveness for photo etch. So I surrendered that pair to general workbench use and bought a new dedicated pair for photo etch.. I keep that pair in my photo etch parts box!
  12. That looks great! Nice work once again!
  13. I pretty much sand off all the kit nubs and sand the matching surfaces flat. The older the kit, the worse fit will be, a combination of less precision in the old days and wear in the mold. I am working with the Hemi from an old Fireball 500 kit and it’s the worst! Once I got the two engine halves together, the front of the engine where the water pump / pulley part goes, literally comes to a point where the halves meet. I had to sand it flat for the front cover part to sit right. And following along with not relying on kit nubs, I usually drill out everything and insert straight pins for mounting.
  14. Ha! You left here with some pretty odd stuff! We both live on the Island of Misfit Toys!
  15. Many years ago my wife hit a curb and destroyed one of the fancy wheels on our 96 Grand Caravan. I found a set of 4 on eBay. I spoke with the seller in the afternoon. Got home from work the next day and they were sitting on my porch! Fed Ex ground Maryland to New Jersey. My wife questioned why I bought 4 when we only needed one.. I told her she had three shots left!
  16. No doubt an old annual AMT 63 Meteor kit. It was produced just during that year. You’d need to seek one out on eBay or at shows. Mint new in box is expensive but you can find rebuildable kits at reasonable prices. Here’s a 1962 Meteor in about the condition you want to find. Someone built it back in the day but didn’t cut up the body or sand off the trim. It had a missing hood but I found one!
  17. Back in the days when I built for contests, I competed in the Light Commercial Category. Going to shows up and down the East Coast, pretty much competing against the same handful of vehicles. The awards order would vary from show to show. It finally occurred to me that we might as well have put the models in a paper bag and pulled out three! Based on the outcome you left the show either very happy or very upset. It wasn’t fun. So now I don’t compete.. I’m out to have a good day. I want to see some models, buy some stuff and have lunch with friends. I’m very good at lunch! And I always come home happy!
