Got it, thanks! I had always thought the bonus engine in the Merc kit was a 440, so that was what was throwing me off, though the kit instructions don't specify. I'm sure I read it somewhere. That's cleared up, and the other engine is better detailed, so back to the build. Thanks again fellas!

Love the paint scheme- proper red! The blacked out trim hearkens back to the 80s trend of "Euro-styling", when we were painting all bright trim black! I had a red '81 Monte Carlo I did in exactly this color scheme in 1988.

Cool project; love the '66s! Will be watching this one.

I'm working on a late 60s-mid 70s street machine sort of build, and I want to stick a 440 in an older body. (The sort of thing a low-buck kinda guy like me might have attempted back then with junkyard parts) I pulled a couple of 440 engines from the stash: one is the optional engine from the AMT '49 Merc, and the other is from the AMT '69 GTX 440. Here's my confusion; as you can see in my pic, one engine mounts the starter on the driver's side, and the other mounts on the passenger side. Which is correct? Were there changes in differing years of production? Is one of these engines incorrectly molded? It's a detail I'd like to get right!

Beautiful clean build, and the best use of Coke decals yet! Nice job.

If not, shouldn't be too difficult to make your own: First scan the decal sheet at a good high resolution, take the resulting image into your favorite image manipulation program ( Photoshop, PaintShopPro, GIMP, etc..) Use the color tools like "Hue-Saturation-Lightness" or similar to change the colors to virtually any color you can imagine, then print on decal paper. Will probably take a little experimentation to get the density, saturation, and so forth where you need depending on your printer, paper, and screen settings.

Right! That's a Landspeeder, from the first movie. I misquoted in my post; the others are simply referred to as "speeders" in the second movie. Early on, there's a scene where Han asks if the speeders are ready, and a technician tells him not yet, they're having trouble adapting them to the cold. That's when he has to go out searching on a Ton-ton. I think it was MPC who labeled them Snowspeeders, possibly to avoid confusion with other types? Would love to see one done up in some camo scheme, as might be used in a different environment. Yours is quite accurate to scenes in the movie.( I went back and watched it to check my "facts"! ?)

We all have plenty of those "one-that-got-away" stories, don't we?! For me there are 4 stand-outs: my 64 Falcon, 56 Chevy 2 door sedan, '68 Chevelle SS396, and '66 Impala SS. Memories...

That looks simply gorgeous. Sometimes, less IS more, and this really shows off the already attractive body lines of the Merc. Very well done.

Great looking build here! These Buicks really are a handsome body style from one of GM's heydays of styling full-size automobiles. You really did this kit justice, it looks very believable as photographed, just a glance would make most folks think it's a real car. Very well done.
