AMT kits with Goodyear Rally GT tires?
espo replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Interesting note on these tires. They put the Rally name on them, but they do not represent the tire that Good Year marketed under the name Rally. This tire more resembles a tire they called Speedway and was a 4 ply tire usually seen as a 70 series. This was the predecessor to the Polyglass bias belted tire. At the time they were about as good as it got if you were looking for some extra traction for your streetcar. The Rally GT that Good Year offered latter with the tread that resembles an all-seasons design was also a 4-ply carcass and was an inexpensive alternative to the Ployglass tire. As for in scale tires some of the early '60's era Corvettes might have had them. These are a much better-looking tire for a model IMO. -
AMT kits with Goodyear Rally GT tires?

Sort of my concern as well. Besides their appearance in scale the real deal was a cheap alternative to the Polyglass tires of the day, so for some there is a bit of a mental block, I guess. -
Another issue with the caps. and I find this mostly true with Tamiya paints for some reason. We shake the bottle to agitate and mix the paint. We oprn the jar and start painting whatever. I'll usually try and use as much of the paint on the bottom side of the cap, but some is always left over, and this often attributes to the cap sticking. Whenever I notice much buildup in the caps threads, I'll run the cap under the faucet and scrape out any dried paint as well. I have found that the cap will go back on easier and doesn't gum up as often.

Great job. Looks like it just got pulled out of the swamp somewhere. This type of finish can often be harder to accomplish than a shiny one.

Great clean looking Camero.
-
Beautiful looking Bonnie. The color shows all of the body lines and the interior really compliments the body color.

Besides being a great looking build, I like the story line. This would look good in the student parking lot.
-
I like the look of the old black lacquer paint cracking and flacking off the body.
-
Great looking attention to finishes and detailing.
-
Beautiful looking group of Jaguars. Paint colors and finishes look great and all the attention to the fine details of the engine and interior,
-
Beautiful looking updates. All the modern Corvette designs blended perfectly with all the traditional styling.
-
Beautiful looking little Chevy. Great paint finish and I like the contrasting interior colors.

Congratulations on a very deserving build. -
Great looking paint color and finish. Nice chrome trim. I like the louver hood option myself.

I have been following your build and really like how it's looking I would like to offer a suggestion about the Tamiya bottle caps. They don't take well to a lot of strong arming. I have much the same problem and it seems to come from small amounts of paint on the top edge of the bottle drying and causing the cap to bond to the bottle. Next time this happens try placing the bottle upside down in some warm water that just covers the cap and allows some water to go into the threaded area of the bottle. What I have found is that the water tends to soften the dried paint and after just a few minutes the cap can be removed by hand. I have never had a leak thru of the water into the paint in the bottle.

Great looking chassis and interior details.

AMT kits with Goodyear Rally GT tires?

I don't recall ever seeing these tires before. I like the printing but wonder about the tread pattern. -
Great looking save and the stance and wheels and tires look good.

I like the way you removed the spears from the hood. I remember reading an article in the old Rod & Custom magazine many years ago where they were showing how to do this. What they were doing at the time was to use the center section of a '56 Ford hood to replace the center section of the '57 Chevy hood. Seems like a lot of work now but that's the way they did it.

What did you see on the road today?

Outside of the wrinkled bumper the International Harvester pickup still looks pretty good. -
Steve Magnante Videos
espo replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have always found Steve's video's interesting and informative. The reason this one is of additional interest to me has to do with my grandmother, my mother's mother. She had a side gig as an Avon lady in Springfield Ill. She would often send me these aftershave bottles but from an earlier era. The subjects would be thirties era cars and were all solid glass with the spare tire covering the cap. This was during the late sixties until her passing in '68. The scents were usually a knockoff of whatever men's aftershave was popular at the time. I didn't use them since I didn't care for them and the contains seemed to degrade quickly. I guess I should have saved the bottles. -
We got a little snow Wednesday, nothing of the epic proportions seen by so many others. Yesterday morning I'm at my work bench hoping for the temperatures to move out of the negative degrees outside with the thought that I would be shoveling a little snow. This is when I heard a scraping sound outside. We have done the downsizing thing and one of the benefits is that after 2 inches of snow the grounds crew are going around clearing walks and driveways. I'm starting to really like this new place.

Looks like you may need at least one more color coat.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

This is really cool looking. You mention getting ideas from someone else. I was thinking of the TV show Texas Metal. They were building a Jeep along these lines in one of their shows.
