Great looking builds. I like your build style here also. I'm real partial to that black Charger.

Great looking paint and the front end you added looks like they could or should have done it that way.

Changing Times, Changing Tastes
espo replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
iamsuperdan, I'm an old "Gray Beard" and I think you have a good understanding of the reason people look for something that was special to them in their early years . The new or newer cars I purchased as I got older were usually the higher performance version of what the manufacture produced at the time. You might want to keep an eye out for some of those types of cars on the used market. Example: '86 Monte Carlo SS - '90 Cavalier V6 and 5 speed, quicker than you might think. A '97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with the Eaton super charged 3.8 liter - '10 Charger RT Max with AWD - '14 Avenger RT with an OHC 3.6 V6 that my wife still loves, and my current driver is a '18 Charger GT with AWD. The best was the '05 GTO 6 speed I bought new when I retired. Some of these are cars that can be had in many cases for under 10 grand for a nice one and just under 20 grand for some of the others. You are correct about the much older cars in that they had some great memories but not really safe drivers by todays standards. One of my hot button cars would be a '56 Bel Air Hardtop. The problem is by the time I bought and installed a completely new chassis and the LS-3 crate engine and the Tremic 6 speed it would be easier and cheaper to just get a new Super Bee or the like. -
"Holy Grail" Models?
espo replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Your Dad's Comet looked good. You might have a better chance of finding Revell's kit of a '66 Mercury Cyclone. They were issued about the same time as the '66 Fairlane and with time and better tooling I think the Revell kit would give you a better finished model. -
Corona Virus (Covid 19) and Model Kits

This last year the local markets have been offering 1 lb. bags of unground or ground coffee. As I'm sure you already know that is not fresh enough. We used to live in Sacramento and I would get Java City Coffee since they had little shops around the area. A coworker shoed me an article in GQ Magazine about Peet's being rated as #1 Coffee by them in the late '90s and I have been ordering direct ever since. Every other month I get 4 lb. of whole beans on my door step with 4 - 5 days of roasting. I stay with the Dark Beans and usually try their flavor of the month as one of the 4. Hope you enjoyed your cup of joe today. -
That would make a very interesting build. I remember when the Lincoln team won their class and overall in I think '53 or '54. The '57 Chevrolet Black Widow and the '50 Oldsmobile kits both offer options of very basic Roll Bars and even a gutted back seat cover. These parts may be handy when you build your '53 Victoria. I hope this year to finally put together my '53 Ford kit with an old Fordallac vibe with the Cadillac engine from an old '49 Ford kit.

Actually we had to send them money and because Im rtired and my wife works we are now being required to post $500 quarterly with the state.

Great looking Saturday Night Special. Like Pete L mentioned, this is the way they looked. All of the Tri-Five Chevys were popular weekend warriors and that is why it's so hard to find a complete one today.

I heard my wife up stairs yesterday morning cussing like an old sailor. This is not her usual vocabulary. Left the modeling desk to see what was going on up stairs. Why is it that refrigerators always stop functioning on a Saturday morning after you had just loaded it with over a hundred dollars worth of food including expensive cuts of meat. She had opened the freezer section with Ice Cream dripping off the shelf on to the floor. We are lucky to have a second refrigerator and freezer in the basement and spent the morning taking what we felt could be saved to the basement and the rest went into the trash. We did all of the reset tests listed in the owner's manual but it still will not get cold. We hope we can find a repair tech Monday and that it's just a computer board or something. I really don't feature going out and buying a new one right now.

There should be some photos out there on google to show the differences. The first '39 Mercs had a lot of distinct body shapes, but the '41 thru '48s shared the basic body with the Fords. After WWII the Mercury also got a longer front end and far more distinct grill area. The '41's fenders have a little different shape on the Mercury and it would be a good idea to study a few pictures before slicing and dicing the fenders.

Great looking trio of El Caminos.

I like the red color and the paint finish. So often seen in white with blue stripe or blue with the white stripe, this really stands out. Good luck with your search for a new home. so many lenders can be a real pain I know.

Great looking build. I like the paint scheme and interior combination. The 1:1 cars with the Continental Kit would often mount the rear license plate on the tire cover. May not be the prettiest way but many of the covers actually had a slight recessed area for mounting the license plate.

This should be fun to follow. I like the stance so far. Are they all going to be silver then ?

What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
espo replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those wheel tubs really look nice. -
It looks like your Father is about to get stuck. At first glance the car looks like a '41 Ford. After you mention that it's a Mercury I can see the muddy grill in the shadows. I think if you used the font hood, fenders, and bumper from the AMT '41 Ford Woody that would leave scratch building the grill and the tail lamps as they were different from the Fords. The dash would also have to be changed.

Are there any wheels out there like this?
espo replied to 2zwudz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Go to the After Market / Resin section on the Forum. Then the Directory Section. Go down to Fireball Models. He has all the wheels and sizes along with tires you need. He offers a lot of great parts. -
Thank you so much. I've been laughing so hard and I'm still wiping the tears from my eyes. His material was always the best.

Perhaps you meant yours was a 210. Just so happens my Father bought a new '56 210, a 4door of course . The car was also a 6 cylinder with a 3-speed stick and no overdrive or radio. Dear old dad always was a little tight when it came to cars. I think his philosophy was they nothing more than a means of transportation and nothing more. When I stated the '56 model year for the start of the standard oil filter I was thinking of the V-8. I remember the '55 Chevrolets with the V-8 had an add on filter usually mounted on the passenger side front of the engine or on top of the intake manifold. This begs the question, since Chevrolet was designing a completely new v-8 engine why didn't they include an oil filter. They knew this was an important feature to have particularly with the oil contamination that they knew existed, and the other GM lines already had built in oil filters ?

Thank you for the additional interior pictures. I think this and the exterior are a great combination. I'm familiar with the seats you used as I think I've robbed them from every '57 Ford in the stash.

I'm with you on Coffee. I'm enjoying a pot of Italian Roast from Peet's Coffee right now. -
I started to lose interest after the Hippie Dippy Weather man retired along with Mr. Bill.

This looks great. I also read that article and even saved it for reference to build one like this some day. Your colors look perfect on this build. Interior is to nice for all the scaffolding in the prototype.

The paint and the trim details look great. The Wheels give it an attitude and I like that. Well built.
