Great looking build. I like the OEM style paint and colors.

Perfect paint finish. I like the way you detailed the engine bay and the interior looks very realistic.

I think this kit was patterned after a 1:1 Gasser from that era. I remember seeing a 1:1 Chevy Panel Gasser with that paint job many years ago, hard to forget that look. I like how yours is turning out.

Rebadging, for many strange reasons
espo replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My only objection on the manual had to do with the gearing of first and second gears. First seemed almost to low almost like a "Granny" low in a truck. It would get you across the intersection and you were ready for second. Second was a baby step up from first. I felt first should have split the difference between the two gears. Once you were into third then you were moving pretty good. The other objection that I had was with fifth and sixth gear. Just not enough step up between the to gears. Of course by that time you better be watching your rear view mirror for flashing lights. I think the first second issue had to do with the LS2 engine that lacked the low end torque below 2,000 rpm, at least that is what it felt like unless you slowly released the clutch. Above 3,000 rpm you had better have both hands on the wheel and have a plan as to were you're going because you were going to get there quickly. I knew others who had GTO's with the Auto. Trans. that were happy in stop and go traffic, but felt they were giving up something to the manual on the open highway. Either way I truly miss that car. My problem was that at 6' 2'' and an ageing stiff neck it had become difficult for me to get in and I was often hitting my head above the door opening. But it was comfortable for miles and miles and even with my lead foot I would approach 20 mpg on the highway. -
Did you know that at one time Spam was, and my still be a mainstay meat source in Hawaii ? I didn't either until we went there on vacation and that was one of the factoids that was shared with the tourist.

Model Master Instant Adhesive

Were you joining metal to plastic or resin to plastic ? Do you feel that it wouldn't work even for plastic to plastic or is it just an inferior product all together ?? -
Asking for or receiving a model as a gift ?
espo replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My wife will often want to get me something I may need for my models be it a model or a part or tool. We just give a general dolor range and I use it for what ever I want. Works the best for us anyway. -
Can you identify this car?
espo replied to ROY FERGUSON's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nope. -
I'm thinking it might be one of those Toyota things. My reasons are The general shape of the side and rear quarter window and the door handles. The front parking lamps resemble some of the Toyotas I have seen. The Window Flares are way over done. I have the standard size Window Flares on our JK and they work perfectly as they were originally designed to work. I have never seen any over done like these. Another thing to note is the size of the "Farm Jack" on the back. You just have to question the steering geometry and steering linkage not to mention the angle of the U-Joints. This is an example of not knowing when to stop throwing money at a project.

Fully detailed Airfix James Bond Aston Martin DB-5

I'm with you. I just finished a Datsun 510 in the BRE livery from 1978. That is a neat kit and I'm not an Import type builder.- 152 replies

I've seen several of your builds, the quality shouldn't be a problem for you, just keeping them all going would be the hard part.

You see the advantage here is that when he rolls over, and he's going to roll over, he'll never dent or scratch the paint.

I knew a guy who had one many years ago. I had a Bradly GT II and offered some advice , but five years later when I left the area it was still sitting in his garage and all he had ever done was sit inside it and make strange noises like a sick engine and spinning tires. I'd just hand him another Beer and go do something else.

Here on the Edge of the Prairie you can hear people practicing they Pyrotechnics for the fourth. Very few fireworks are banned in Kansas and those that are you just drive 25 miles east to Missouri and you can get most everything up to a Rocket Launcher. The biggest problem in this area is the idiots that shoot hand guns into the air to celebrate and not thinking about where the bullet is going to come done. Every year we have injuries, and a few years ago some people on one side of a lake shot into the air and a 10 or 12 year old girl died on the other side of the lake as she and her parents were moving into their new home.

I enjoyed your story on the AMT trucks. I remember them well and built several. I even shortened on of the Ford trucks to make a short wheel base. Very big deal back then, not so much now. I think the Service Truck option also had a Push Bumper also. I look forward to what all you do with your build.

Well here we go again with some must haves. The afore mentioned El Camino is a '65 year model. Way back when this was first released with the '65 Chevelle wagon and almost everything will interchange between them. The '39/'40 Ford is also a great kit. The kit can be built as a '39 Deluxe or '40 Standard as well as a '40 Deluxe. Two different hood and grill combinations along with two different headlights. I'll mine one of the Tiger Sharks for parts. I like the Wheels with the old Firestone "Hot Rocks" as they used to be known.

1/25 AMT '65 Lincoln Continental Customizing Kit
espo replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There used to be a company called Motor Rim or something like that. They were an O.E.M. Supplier of wheels to many of the Big Three years ago. We also sold them when I was working for Good Year in the early '70's. They usually were 15 by 7 wheels and they later offered 15 by 8.5 when they started putting them on the GM pickups. The centers differed depending on the bolt pattern, but they were basically the same looking wheel. -
Turned out perfect. I enjoyed watching you work on this build.

Great looking Custom. I like how you detailed everything under the hood. I guess the chassis is done in much the same manor. I also like your little Green '49 Ford.

You have mentioned thinking that the kit represents a 3 speed manual transmission. I think you're mistaken. Look very closely at the drivers side of your engine/transmission part. There is three very faint ridges representing the shift linkage. The bottom two are for the 1 - 2 gears and the next up is for 3 and 4th gear. the top one is extremely short and is for reverse. The Brake and Clutch pedals are hung from the bottom of the dash board, unless yours have been broken off at some point. If you don't already try Googling '67 Impalas or Chevrolets. This will give you pictures from allover the Net to give you a general idea of how they looked 1:1. Beyond that this builds up into a very nice looking kit and you should enjoy building it. I personally like these cars a lot and I will watch what all you do with it.

Pre War Dry Lakes Racing
espo replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I also noticed what I thought could be a Bugatti. At first you would think who could afford to drive or own such a car ? At that time it was just another old Pre War race car and maybe it could have been had for far less than you may think. -
In the past I would have 3 or 4 build s going at the same time and it seemed like nothing ever got finished and parts would move from one kit to the other. The last few years I have made myself build one at a time and that seems to work best for me. Do one task at a time and do it to best of your ability. Often Multitasking means everything is not at its best when finished.
