Purple Pond Distortion ?
espo replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have stopped using my dehydrator all together. Used to work fine for drying paint, but I think with age the thermostat went south on it. The last straw for me was when it turned the front seats from an early AMT '57 Chevy kit into lawn chairs. -
1984 GMC built my way...

Looks like a fun build, I like the rear bumper idea. -

50 Chevy Pickup
espo replied to Gerald Haney's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I like this a lot better than the stock cab. How was the resin cab to work with ? I like the color and the stance. -
Many years ago, when this would have been a new car, I had a lady friend that was just sure I should buy her this or a Fiat Spyder. I choose to do neither and got rid of her also.

That is exactly how I remember the Tri-fives looking.

Great looking build. You did a lot of extra paint detailing here and there that goes a long way to capture the look of the real car. Many do not realize that the area under the front bumper as painted Chevrolet's Argent Silver. My 1:1 was Danube Blue with Black Buckets. Thanks for the memories looking at your model.

´33 Ford 3W Coupe - Billy F. Gibbons´ Eliminator
espo replied to Koellefornia Kid's topic in Model Cars
Very nicely done. This looks like it could be the model for the "box art" for the kit. I also noticed the one picture with Billy's '49 Ford coupe. I always liked that one the best of all his cars. -
I think the body looks fine and I would just build it, your way. From the pictures you can see that there were many different configurations as far as the body goes. As mentioned some of this may be dependent on the different race teams and some may be because of the race sanctioning bodies rules. I wouldn't mess with the roof at all. I would look at as many pictures of this model BMW as you can find on the internet and use what ever ideas you see that you like and incorporate those ideas into your build.

Beautiful looking engine and chassis. I like the under hood decals, were they in the kit ? You might consider some flat black paint on the starter and the old AC oil filters were a medium blue color.
-
I have to agree with everyone else on the body color. This was a time when green cars were very popular. I remember seeing them with and without the tail stripes. I'd do the white if you do a stripe, but do what looks best to you. I think you nailed the interior.

Since you're getting into the frame and the gas tank area, can I offer somethings to consider. The 1:1 El Caminos shared their basic frame design with the Station Wagons of that time. This made for what may seem like an odd shaped gas tank. The Wagons stored their spare tires under the floor at the rear of the passenger compartment. This creates a large circular section that hangs down between the frame rails and the rear cross member. GM designed the gas tank to wrap around the spare wheel well. If you have the '59 El Camino donor kit you might want to use the under body area from that. I'm sure there would be some minor alterations needed but based on what I've seen so far you shouldn't have any problems there. The rear bumper has been mentioned and with the removal of any bumper guards higher than the top edge of the bumper should fix that. I really like what you're doing here.

Great looking Judge. Timeless color with a perfect finish. Nice stance and wheels.

I used the expression "dragging my wife too see Bullitt" and that is somewhat of an exaggeration. We have been married, happily, for over 30 years. She had more than an average interest in cars when we first met. Thru the years she has become far more knowledgeable of the workings of the automobile and along with myself became a very big NASCAR fan along with other forms of racing. She "dragged me" to see one of her WO WO movies the other night and I sat thru it and didn't complain, I had to work really hard to stay awake, but didn't complain. She has heard me talk about the chase scene in the movie and may have also seen snippets of it. She'll go to find what I have talked about so often. The "Dragging" part is to let each other know that we understand the other doesn't care about something but you really want them to see it. I don't think she will fall asleep though.

Used to live in San Bernardino years ago. When Vandenberg AFB would fire off something big around sunset it was very pretty to watch. Later living in Lompoc next to VAFB you could hear them lifting off.
-
Going to see it locally here next week. I was surprised when my wife said she has never seen it. I will be dragging her along.

Try watching HGTV. She and her now X husband buy and flip houses in southern California. I never thought she was into anyone but her self from the start years ago and she has only gotten more obnoxious since they split. She is what used to be called "High Maintenance" . Very pretty to look at, but she would break your heart.

With the white painted top and the white wheels it really does look right. Great finish on the main part of the body. -

I can see painting it white or some other lighter color. Make it a 4 X 4 when you lift it. NSAPCO used to do 4 X 4 conversions thru GM and I think Ford also in the '70's. -
I bought a resin casting of the Ventura II body from Jimmy Flintstone. The front fenders and grill are cast in place and are sharp and clean looking. The head lights and bumper, and hood are also part of the kit. I would highly recommend if someone is serious about building a Ventura II.

Excellent fit and finish. Great paint work and I like the Carbon Fiber body trim.
-
Sure looks good as you're nearing completion. What are you thinking on the Pearl paint problem you mentioned ?
-
The color, and of course the finish on it, are beautiful. Always enjoy watching your builds.

Glad to see that you are still working on this. Great idea to cast it, I'll bet many will want this one.
