Think of it like a "Corkage Fee" just like when you bring your own bottle of Wine into a restaurant. But I have to agree the "Cake Cutting Fee" does seem a little to much after you have 8 for dinner. Must be a high class joint. I wouldn't have left a tip.

Using the windshield to hold everything in place while you glue it sounds like a good idea. You want to be very careful not to glue the windshield in place. A little heat might be a good idea for what looks like a stress point at the top of the A pillar on the driver's side. The broken edges should line up ok, but the top of the A pillar will have to be finessed a little. After everything is lined up the way you want it you can use a little super glue for a permanent repair.

Was your Testors paint enamel by chance ?? While Testors enamel paints are known to be slow drying, three days does seem unusually long time.

Extremely nice looking build. I remember this old JoHan from years ago and it was a nice kit.

I'm not going to try and Out Old everybody but I remember something my father told me once. I was visiting him after he had broken his leg while Down Hill Skiing, he was in his 70's. He said "He was a young man trapped in this old body". The doctors told him he would never ski again. Two years later he was doing Cross Country Skiing. I have often looked in the mirror in the morning and wondered who that old man is looking back at me. Then I remember his words.

The first time I went to see Jaws we sat in the front row of the balcony. I don't normally get real excited in movies, but when Jaws first makes its appearance lunging at you out of the screen I almost jumped over the railing.

Sorry to hear about the neighborhood. Time to cut your losses and get out will you still can. This situation sounds like it is only going to get worse and the vermin moving in are only going to get bolder, especially since the management doesn't care and it sounds like the Sheriff's department aren't too worried either.

It looks as if the paint in area that you masked off had not fully cured yet. I'd first let it sit for at least 48 hours and then see if you can sand the area smooth and give it another color coat.

If I had an old Dodge Step Side Pick up I'd want it to look like this. I like the somewhat understated look at first glance. Then you see the Wheel and Tire combination and you just wonder, Is that a Six or a 440 under the hood.

I like how your build is going. You mentioned wanting ideas on the Headlights. With the slick body design you have the Headlights starting to make it look like a "Bug Eye' Sprit. Consider removing the Headlights and then sinking them into the Fenders so they are in the stock location but not such a prominent feature. I was thinking of suggesting quad headlights because of the smaller diameter, but that may start to look like a late '50's Kustom. The running boards are going to have to be hide as the body and chassis sits now. You could use some Plastruct sheet plastic with the Dimond pattern if that is a look you would like.

Interesting looking truck. I have to agree about the larger pipe rack for most cases, but they may have some products that are as long as the truck that would need to be supported from end to end. If that was the case than such a conversion would be the best solution.

I saw your finished build at the Heartland Show in June. As good as these pictures look, they don't really do your build justice, This is one that you have to see in person to really appreciate just how good it looks.

Interesting looking starting point. The trunk (boot) hinges look like this may be a Die Cast kit. Has a nicely detailed engine to work with.

If your hood is still not to your liking consider something I have done in the past. First the hood should be sanded smooth with little or no sign of the raised ridge. Second, glue a strip of Plastruct half round in the desired diameter to the hood. You would need little if any body filler if it is glued down perfectly flat. Next just a very light sanding and then primer. The primer should fill any parting line, and again light sanding until you get the desired look. Then prime and paint the finish color. Hope this will help.

Beautiful looking build. The color along with the "Billboards" on the side work well together. Very nice finishes under the hood also.

What do you have in mind for the side window frames ?

One of the problems with the shifter on the old Type !'s was the bracket supporting the shifter rod. This was a very thin almost "Tin" type of bracket with an even thinner part hanging down that the shift rod was supported by. After years of pushing down on the shifter into reverse they often would fail. Not an expensive or hard part to get from VW, but a pain to have to deal with. I fashioned a bracket out of welding rod. Lasted a couple of years until I sold my '67 Type 1 Baja Bug. Couldn't afford a Hurst Shifter at that time.

The tail lights look fine. I question the rear side window openings though. In the one side view picture the angle makes it look as though the window is taller at the leading edge than where it meats the rear window. This may just be the angle, but that is what it looks like to me. Other than that it looks ready to go.

The engine and chassis looks very realistically weathered.

Hard call on dealing with your daughter's Father in Law, but it does need to be done. I think if you're hearing others remark on his score keeping then you really don't want to hear what they are saying when you can't hear them. Some of those remarks may have been made in hopes that you could correct his conduct. I can see how a group of people could assign guilt by association because of your relationship. A suggestion would be 1. get lessons to help with your scores. 2. Whisper in the instructors ear to go over score keeping. If all else fails you need to call him out in private about keeping score correctly. No one likes a cheater.

I would like to see if you have done any of the Chevrolet wagon. The Country Squire looks great.
