Your build looks great. I like the engine transplant idea. I'll bet more than a few Tri-Five Chevys got engine transplants other than another Chevrolet engine.

On the tires, I have been using Tamiya Flat Clear in almost all of my tires lately. One it will seal and protect the White sidewall, it doesn't seem to dry flat flat looking more like a freshly scrubbed tire. I like seeing the underside of the fenders painted white. Ya that was the was it was done. That used to be called "Sanitary" and even went inside to paint the clutch and brake pedal arms.

Looks like an interesting find. I just finished a model of the BRE Racing Datsun 510 that was produced in 1978. I had very similar problems with the decals as you have mentioned. I suggest you check with the Model Building Q & A section here on the Forum. I remember seeing a discussion on how to restore older kit decals. I would try and find that discussion and see what everyone else has tried before you put what seems like irreplaceable decals in jeopardy.

Your engine is really coming together. The wiring and plumbing look perfect. I like your resourcefulness of materials on the plug wire holders. You seldom see the plug wires routed correctly like you have done.

Looks like far to much fun, not to mention the beautiful countryside.

Another store to consider is JoAnns. They are mainly a fabric store, but they also have a large Jewelry section with lots of goodies and small tools that you can use.

While the kits carburetor resembles a Holly carb. the float bowls are wrong for a double pumper. If you're going to have an air cleaner nobody is going to be able to see anyway and that goes for what ever they were thinking with the carb. openings also. The Orange plastic bit, I was at H.L. today and they had a shelf full of this kit. I turned the box over and over trying to read what all they had to say about the features and sure enough in small print on a side panel they mentioned that it was molded in Orange plastic. As for chrome parts they only other thing they might have done was the valve covers. The 1:1 had semi shinny polished aluminum valve covers so even if they had given you chrome covers it would have been wrong. All that aside it really depends on how you want it to look and what you're trying to represent with your build. I think your engine looks great so far.

Was at H.L. today and the shelves are full all the way to the back of the self for everything they had. They may have gotten a big supply when all this started and I think that H.L. would have some major warehouse space around.

I have to agree with you on the Pontiac Formula hood. I never understood what they were thinking with the T/A hood since it was sealed, and even if you opened the scoop it wasto far away from the windshield to get any effect like the Z-28 Camaros. The Formulas had the intake at the leading edge of the hood and would catch the air as it would start over the body.

Great looking little pick up. They usually only looked that good on the day they were delivered.

The chassis looks nice and crusty so far. The exhaust cross over pipe mentioned by mikemodeler was the way it was since very few if any F-100's of that time had duel exhaust. On one of my 1:1 '56 F-100 I just got a passenger car manifolds and the muffler shop did the rest.

You might want to grab this just incase your 440 car doesn't work out. At least this is running and driving and could be used for a future project. At that price i'd buy it just to have it for parts alone.

If you were to look up "Sleeper" in the dictionary there would be a picture of this little '53 Chevy. I would like to know what all he's done with the chassis and suspension on this.

The '57 Flip Nose, is that the same as the MPC/Ertl kit ? I have a sealed model #6321 and have been reluctant to build it since these things are supposed to be worth so much money now.

Very clean looking build. Your color choice gives your build a nice high end look. The duel snorkel air cleaner may have been used on the engines with the duel four barrel carb. setup.

Amazing how much better it looks now. As for the color I'm still in rehab for my addiction to that. Glad you fixed the tail lights, not sure what the original builder was thinking. Ahh your license plate is still upside down ? The darker shade on the wheels spokes look better also.

Your model looks just like the picture. If you don't already have the Gum Ball for the roof you might look at the '57 Ford Del Rio wagon kit.

I have to agree with you on the Clearly Scale Engines, they are very accurate looking. If you have a Hobby Lobby or a Craft Store like it in your area they often offer 40% off coupons. I have often used the coupon to buy a kit not with the intention of building it but to mine the wheels and tires, Chassis and Suspension as well as Engines and Interiors. At swap meets I'll pickup a few NASCR kits cheep for the same reason.

I wasn't watching the show when they started having the Firebird. What they should have done was to include the Chevrolet Z-28 hood or the Corvette L-88 hood and then they would have had the Hood Scoop Trifecta. Hood Scoops are ok if you have one or the other but not together.

The local Law Enforcement agencies are taking a much lower profile on their appearance in the last couple of years. Most of the local cities are using markings that are just a shade or two from the body color with no exterior lights visible and only black painted Spot Lights. The KSHP's new Chargers seem to all be white with a small shield on the door and the only noticeable exterior feature is the front "Cow Catchers" for the Pit Maneuver. It used to be they wanted their presents known and now the are laying in wait.
