Zoomie headers from solder wire
Fat Brian replied to Ric's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You should be able to drill out the tips of the wire with a small drill bit. Get yourself a pin vise and set of small drill bits, you'll find a hundred uses for them. Go slow when drilling the tips so you don't expand the end of the solder. -

With kits you really get what you pay for, it's worth spending a bit extra on the front end to save the hassle of ill fitting parts. -
I have to agree, the finished builds have been great.

I've got very fat fingers so I built it with 5 strings to give me a little more room to fret chords. The top on that is a veneer but it looks pretty good. I left the finish kind of satin because I wanted it look like a worn guitar. -

Yep, I agree about the race slicks. They don't have the durability to last the distance of the race and with the possibility of changing weather conditions just aren't a reasonable choice. My Jag comes with slicks but I'm going to switch them out for normal performance tires.

You might be on to something with the colored plastic, the body that exploded on me was like a metallic black cherry color.
-
I've had brittle plastic from Revell before. I was trying to correct a slight twist in a kit that was made in the early 90s and a fairly gentle twist caused it to shatter about like what you've got there. My body was bare plastic so it wasn't a paint reaction that weakened it.

That is a consideration I've been thinking about. While there is a separate record for solo Cannonballers most runs are a team of two to three people.

I like the theme and think there are plenty of subjects to cater to just about every builder. Mainly I just like the concept of the Cannonball so the specific theme doesn't matter that much.

After looking again you're right, there's no frame in the drawing.

How dedicated to 1/16 scale are you? You could get a 1/10 scale Clodbuster body cheap. Otherwise you might have more luck on an rc board since they deal in slightly bigger scales.

That looks very good.

I'm going to do this before I forget. I built the Decepticon Barricade's vehicle form from the first Transformers movie. The kit is the Revell 2007 Shelby Mustang built mostly kit stock except for some Fujimi Advan wheels, decals I had made by Firebird Designs, and the light bar from Spotlight Hobbies. Most of the work went into lowering the kit about a quarter inch. I had to grind the upper areas of the wheel wells and rebuild parts of the rear due to the wider tires. I also had to shorten the rear coils and grind the top of the axle along with a molded in part on the chassis to get the rear end down. Paint is Duplicolor white and black with about half a dozen coats of Mr. Super Clear gloss.

Bugatti Royale interior ?

Good luck, that looks like it will be pretty challenging no matter how you go about it. -
Bugatti Royale interior ?
Fat Brian replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The first two things that come to mind are either printing a sheet decal paper with that cloth pattern and cutting out the individual pieces or finding a similar pattern in lace and spraying through it like a mask to create the pattern. -
Will we ever see the Monogram S-10 again?

The mini truck craze killed a lot of them. -
Ok, I just wanted to throw it out there before things kicked off.

My car might not be enough of a race car then, it's got a gutted interior with a roll cage and open exhaust but otherwise it's pretty stock.

The reason that particular fit is being thrown is that those are the same wrong kits that have been around for 30 years, it's the accuracy of the kit for the money that has peoples hackles up. If they would put as much effort into a new semi kit as they do the sci-fi stuff they'd sell. It baffles me that no one has done a Pete 379 or Kenworth W900L, if someone would do an accurate version of those they couldn't keep them on the shelves even at that price.

Any of the bottom three would be a good start. I've been looking at the stash and might dig out something interesting.
