Missing Link 70-71 cyclones
socal76 replied to kevin l's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kevin, one thing I noticed and it may be just an oversite, but you list this as a 70/71 Cyclone and the front bumper has the clearly molded 1970 plate. Do you also have a front bumper molded for 1971, and just not in the photos? I am saving up to get two at least. -
The newest model year in your stash
socal76 replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Would be the Revell 2010 Camaro, Not had the money to get anything newer. -
Since you were not happy with the wheels in the first pic showing the wheels, just send that set to me! I have a project waiting for them.

Rider, on your spoon tests, what is the blue that is 5th from the left side? I like that color for a Z-28 I want to do -
Ollie's strike again

Reading all the posts really gets me down since there is not an Ollies anywhere near my area. And I see a lot of kits I would buy. Oh well, the old sucessful busniss model I learned "Location, Location, Location" I am in the wrong location! -
Favorite all time Kit\Build
socal76 replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Favorite kit would have to be the Revell 69 Camaro. Has to be since I have projects (all Stalled) to do 17 different ones! All the kits and almost all the resin pieces needed. Still have to get about 4 resin hoods if I recall. -

On the pic that shows the turbo setup, where did that come from? Nice way to mount a twin setup. -
1966 Chrysler 300, Update, 5/1, DONE!!
socal76 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Steven, I would just have to do a sleeper type build on that car. Black car, and even though you do not like them, black vinyl top. And drob a Hemi with a Torgue-Flite behind it. And just a bit wider tires in the rear on some stock appearing period wheels, deepened in the back. The only thing I can't decide on is single quad or duals on a crossram? Hmmmm???? -
Think it might be just a bit too low by the time you get the engine in. The oil pan will be below the front crossmember. Maybe use some Elmer's and tack the block and oil pan together to check. Easy to get back apart that way. Of couse, if you have some 1/4 in wide tape you could tape it and not even have to worry about prying apart any pieces. Quick and easy way to check tho'

I have to admit I have interest in just about anything model related. From Nascar, to NHRA, to sports cars, an even replica stock. Makes it hard to want a specitive kit since I have about 2500 in my stash. But does not meaI I do not want a different version or even a duplicate to do a slightly different version. Too many interests and just not enough funds to suit my ultimate stasch. Anything racing interests me and to be honest the low level would be replica stock, but even then some kits interest me

70 Torino GT Grille "Open Headlights"
socal76 replied to MrBuick's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Rob Hall, thanks for giving the correct info about the Cobra and the GT grilles. Oh wait, why am I saying thank you? Now I have to keep looking for the Cobra kit! -
70 Torino GT Grille "Open Headlights"
socal76 replied to MrBuick's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
jeffb, is the grille from the Monogram Torino Cobra different than the one in the GT? Never got one of the Cobra's and now I found out that it is the one that was used in Nascar, which is what I wanted the build for. Or if they are different does the Cobra have the open light grille? -

American 1:25 scale four door sedan and wagon promos and kits
socal76 replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Weren't some of the Brookfield promos of the Neons available as either a 2-door or 4-door? -
I think the trim on the gold and the two-tone are just what it needs. At first I thought was no trim, but when I saw the red one without trim, I changed my mind. Kind of like I did on my '64 Impala SS years ago. Now I have to replace all the trim if I ever get to the point I have the funds to restore it.

Jon, I have to admit, I am still a bit surprised the Corvair Ramside has not yet been done, because it is so unique. The Greenbrier is a bit less interesting to me. But how about doing all of the Big 3 early vans? Granted you can get the Dodge from Jimmy Flinstone, but many are still too wary of resin transkits. If you did the Ford, not only could you do the Econline Van, but also the pickup. Imagine a Little Red Wagon staged up to a Blue Oval Ford! And even though Chevy never did a pickup off their van chassis, nothing to prohibit us modelers from doing one in scale! And I still want to do a VW conversion using the early pickup along with the engine out of a late model Turbo 993 race car! Twin Turbo mounted mid engine with a tonneau cover over the bed! Let's see, $40.00 for a Fujimi 911 Turbo to get the motor or the same for a Tamiya GT3 car plus another $40.00 for the Hasegawa VW Pickup (or could do it with the Hasegawa VW van). Ok , maybe after I win Powerball or Mega-Millions!. You know you HAVE to add some Photo-Etch to make it stand out, plus some kick-arse paints and polished out smoother than a baby's you know what! And you still have to get all your other kits you want or "need"!

Detail Masters did a set but they are a bit difficult to find now. Might check the web site just to see if they have any left.
-
The Mongram/Revell wheels of this type are probably too deep for the back (looking at your pic). If you want to try as set, PM me and maybe we can work out a trade. I will look through the parts box to see if I have a set that is not quite as deep, but I don't recall any right off.

Murphy's Law As Applied To Modeling
socal76 replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You pull parts from multiple kits to resin cast, and when you are finally able to be able to afford all of the casting supplies needed, you cannot find those parts for the next year and a half (and counting!) -
OK, since I am the guilty party of starting this thread. many of the choices posted are on my list. Top of the list is the Tesla, but I sure would like to see Moiebus do a new Freightliner to go along with thier trailers. OK, I admit it, all of the newer Class 8 trucks would give me goose pimples. And highway's post of a Schneider Freightliner in white? Let alone pulling a Wal-Mart trailer, (since I live 40 miles from wallyworld headquarters in Bentonville) would tickle me, Yes the Wal-Mart decals would be easy to do on an inkjet printer! But I still have to ask everyone, if Round2 did a new (or a revised new kit like a '67 Nova SS Pro Street) would you buy more of that than a re-issue? I know I would! Moiebus is giving us totally new tools and revised tools in their issues, Revell is doing a few new tools along with some re-issues, but everything Round 2 is doing is either straight re-issue or slightly revised re-issue, which is your choice? Don't get me wrong I have bought a few of Round2's re-issues, but much more of my buying is Moiebus and then Revell. Care to provide your input in that respect too, along with the totally new tool choice?

I have to admit since I started this thread and then revised the title of the post there are some kits I sure would like to see that have been mentioned that I did not really think about too much before posting the thread. The Tesla is the biggest PRIME example. But there is one that I have not seen anyone mention, and maybe it is just because it is just dated now. Do I dare say Cadzilla? And I have sent Round2 some suggestions using existing tools to make some new tools with minimum tooling dollars. Do I dare say convert the '66 Nova Pro-Street to a '67 Nova? Pro Street , you can avoid the whole interior tooling and just use the same that you have. Same with both the AMT and Revell '67 Chevelle Pro Streets to a '66 Pro Street. True, replica stock builder would not be happy, but it would give either company an idea if a new tool Replica Stock might sell. Oh, and do a Monogram 1/24th scale '69 Mustang Boss 302 and Boss 429 to sit beside the Monogram '70. And a 1/24th scale Cobra 289 to sit beside the Monogram 427 Cobra? I bet all of these would sell. I readily admit my first choice of a '66 Impala wagon probably would not sell as well as some others, but then again I may find out I am not the only one. And I have to admit I am partial to the '66 Chevy for purely personal reasons, but I would like to see a wagon, a Caprice, a Bel Air, and a base 6 cylinder Replica Stock, Not my cup of tea, but maybe enought to cover tooling costs to do some otheres using the same chassis parts. But then again I go off kilter and want to include an optional coupon to provide some of the revised tooling cost items to be offered with a proof of purchae type deal. Best example I can think of is to include a coupon to be able to send into Revell to get the parts to do a 6 cylinder up-top convertible. Up-top and 6 Cylinder engine parts to purchase after sending in poof of purchase on a '69 convertible kit. Granted more paperwork for Revell but direct to Revell for tooling dollars. Just an idea I have had. OK, and another new tool I just thought of is a 67-68 Cougar to go with AMT's nice '67 Mustang tool. Or did I miss something with that? And thank you to all that have provided suggestions as far as new tools. Hopefully the companies have some lurkers reading posts here too!
