How many of you participate in contests ?
gtx6970 replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hae only entered in one contest in the past 10 plus years and that was just this past spring, even then the only reason I did was because my daughter wanted to enter her 1st one but wouldn't do it unless I did as well. Otherwise I have no interest in contests. I build for me and me alone. I want replicas of my interests in my case . and I have no problem buying one done if it's a decent build . So there area few cars in my case I didn't build. I have posted several builds here and on a few other boards , but they account for probably less than a third of whats in my display case -
Looks like it might make a great parts kit

Here ya go, not mine . nor do I know the seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/Johan-1964-Plymouth-Fury-Original-Body-Nice-Scripts-Look-Circa-1964-/331066423417?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item4d1518b879

I don't mess with the japanese model co product lines so I can't compere any of them But for me , and for there time periods they were released,,,,,the Revell Thunderbolt and the 1969 Camaro were the best compared to what was avail at the time,, and since. I have a Johan Turbine car and if you compare it to anything else ( especially from the same time period) it's a no brainer, even compared to some modern tooled kits, it's still is a major standout. ( I have yet to build one though, I cheated I bought an original issue promo ) But looking at the Moebius 300 kit it might give the Turbine car a good run. The sad part is there designed - produced 50 years apart. Says something major about the Johan Turbine car

Not sure but I want to say I've seen a resin 1970 Coronet wagon,,,somewhere ,,,sometime. Just don't remember who or where. R+R did a 1970 Coronet 4 door but I don't think they did a wagon to, at least I don't think they did. ps, theres not much body wise that is the same between a 1969 and a 1970 Coronet. I would start from scratch before I went that route

Whats the best rattle can to do the Gold on the Bob Ford car ? It almost looks like the same or very similar color to the interior of the car ?

Figures, I don't have one of them . I need those seats for a 1967 Belvedere 2 door hardtop build Thanks

I agee,it appears to be a semi complete kit. MCW's description. PLY-64ht 1964 Plymouth Fury 2dr. Ht. (1/25th scale) $45.00 (Original JoHan - complete car less engine, wheels & tires) Use Lindberg '64 Dodge/Plymouth or Polar Lights '65 Coronet for engine. With Drag decals $53.00 (specify - Golden Commando, Lawman, or Hayden Proffitt)

. Not 100% sure , but I think red . What are the bench seats from ? Johan Police car I assume. If so , I need to find a set of them .

I've never seen any picture of the S+M 1971 car where it had the gilled fenders,,,,, at least not in any picture of it i've seen of it . Back then cars would / could and usually did change from week to week . I just went thru every picture of the 1971 Sox and Martin cuda I have on file. None show it with gilled fenders , and only 2 show it with a red ft bumper. One of them is a static shot (my guess it's early in the year as a publicity shoot ) with Jake King in the photo and the other is an action shot ( not sure when or where it was taken )

Very well done, I have one I built many many years ago and it's looking kind of rough around edges. I can't decide to redo it, or start fresh with an unbuilt kit to do another one
-
Are you sure the 1st one with chrome bumpers is even a 1970 ? Because to be honest , I don't remember ever seeing anything but red bumpers on the ft of 1970 car. The rear bumper I have pics showing it both ways. But every picture I have with a ft end view to verify it is in fact a 1970 is a red bumper (and I have a bunch of pictures of the S+M cars ) A rubber bumper is heavier than a chrome one, so deep down I would bet it's a fiberglass bumper painted body color I have a few with of the 71 car with red ft bumper , but,,,,,, it's usually a chrome bumper. Then nothing but chrome bumpers on the 1972 car

1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
gtx6970 replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
IMO a race series AAR is pushing the envelope. Outside of the body shell itself ,grille + bumpers the glass and chassis pan nothing is the same between it and this Hemi Cuda Because nothing in the interior of the TransAm series AAR race cars is stock ( except maybe the dash ) A stock AAR would be nice and doable, but I have a feeling the aftermkt will fill that void pretty quickly once this kit is released. The drivetrain from the AMT duster could supply most of the engine / trans required -
What's your build percentage?
gtx6970 replied to hotrod4ever's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I own somewhere in the 350-400 range of unbuilts and/or builtups. Last year I actually finished maybe,,, a half dozen ? this year is less than that. maybe 2 or 3 . I will have a long ago started project move to the completed section of the case maybe early next week ( 1st one in nearly 6 months ) -
Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt (Phil Bonner)

Well done, I have the exact same car planned for here very soon ( waiting on paint to arrive ) And I agree I think this kit is one of Revell benchmark kits. -
Oilfield Dodge 1920- Unbelievable
gtx6970 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That was a pretty neat video, I've not seen that one before. Thanks -
Outside of it being molded in white, I don't know if there are any differences ( besides decals )

Agreed, I refused to pay some of the ebay prices on out of production kits. Example is the Polar Lights Charger funnycar. I've seen examples sell for $30 and up . Add shipping to that and it's $40 or more,,,,no thanks. I don't need them that bad ,, I already have several on hand . IF I need more(not likely ) I'll pick one or 3 up at a swap meet . Actually bought 2 at a local model contest/swap this past spring . paid $30 for the pair. Mainly because they make great parts kits / chassis doners.

1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
gtx6970 replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
99% of the buyers will be a very happy camper ( myself included ) -
I think it's very good time to be a model builder. There are kits out now or recently that were not avail when the subject was new ( 1967 Coronet just as one example ) Do I like it ? Heck yea. But now I buy only the ones that have a chance to be built in the forseeable future . If I can't picture myself building it , I don't buy it. The ones I do buy, I usually try to buy multiples of,,,,,, as toy funds and/or the cheif financial officer allows for

Just a cool looking build. Reminds me of the good old days . Cheap gas, cheap cars and even cheap girls .
