If there's a problem, it's with the ads, which change all the time. I've had them lock up my computer, or slow it way down, or blow up my browser and make it restart. But so far no viruses or Trojans.

First of all this is a very uncool thing to post especially since its malarkey.  Send an email to the site admin instead or post if any one is noticing anything strange.

I ran a few free site scans and they didn't find anything.

Not to mention Norton not lighting up when I visit from a Windows box.

Why are you posting under Car Kit News & Reviews?

Because it was exactly here it happened. Mabye, general topic would be better. Snake is correct. It was the ad that changes. I should have snapped a cell photo. It was not exactly a virus but a link to extract my name and password; to get full entry to my computer, they wanted my cell number too by insisting that I call. Ctrl-Alt -delete did no good as did pulling the battery. Mal Ware found nothing. I als able to X out close each browser window , then it disappeared. I hope for good.

I didn't have anything like that, but my computer has been running VERY slow for two days. I ran Malware Bytes this morning and found nothing. If it's still slow when I get home, I think I'm gonna do a System Restore.

My computer seems fine tonight, so far at least, and was okay this afternoon. I suppose I got on a bad server last night AND again first thing this morning. I've had it happen from time to time, but I don't think I've had it happen twice in a row like that.

But I HAVE had ads on this site slow my browser way down, and also lock it up. It's not the site itself, it's the ads.

And then I was just happily browsing away, and started getting "403 FORBIDDEN" pages on EVERYTHING I clicked on for some reason, even things I had JUST clicked on without problem. Closed down the browser, lit it back up, everything fine again. Moral: Stuff just happens sometimes.

there is another app I run in conjunction with malwarebytes, rogue killer finds things that malwarebytes does not find.

this doesn't mean malwarebytes is bad, just focused on other areas.

Rogue killer (by Adlice software) saved me from having to wipe my home theater PC after it got some nasty bug that malwarebytes found but didn't seem to be able to remove.

I can't speak for anyone's computer but mine. I am here everyday and I see the adds and I use Google Chrome and just ran a full virus scan with Norton. Nothing found. Have not had a virus alert or any alert from this forum....

I don't see the ads on my home computer but I peeked at the site from my work computer one day.  There was an ad on the site that was made to look like a link to additional site content that led to a virus that locked your computer and asked you to dial a phone number to pay to have your computer released.  Note that the ads come through a reputable service and the site has no  control over what exactly appears.

Get a free adblocker program. It will get rid of the ads.

It's amazing how many people ignore this advice (or have zero clue about what it is)...including myself for far too long, until I was annoyed enough to ask my friend who is our club webmaster what he used for an adblocker and his advice was spot-on; he saw the expression on my face when we were having a meeting and I installed the blocker. I was amazed how such a simple change made such an improvement in the quality of internet surfing. I use Chrome and occasionally Firefox, both running uBlock Origin as browser extensions which work perfectly and seamlessly. Pages load faster, no more annoying ads at the beginning of videos, I never see the problem ads that make people create threads like this. It's so simple yet so many keep using the internet like they did in 1999. All I see is a small number next to the uBlock Origin icon which is the number of blocked ads...which for this particular page is 2.

All the more reason to run an ad-blocker.

Adblock Plus is free, it WORKS (including removing all the annoying upload carp on Photobucket AND commercials on YouTube), it's available for all the popular browsers, and it only takes one or two clicks to install it.

https://adblockplus.org/

A good anti-virus program is also a must.

I can highly recommend this one. It's about $70 / per year and works better than anything else I've tried to date.

eset is "top of the line", and can be considered worth the cost for peace of mind.

however.... once rogue killer is installed and run, you may be alarmed at the extent of shenanigans going on under the hood of your operating system and browsers.

Our ads are served by Google. I don't expect that to be an infection route, though sites like Yahoo! aren't nearly as diligent about the ads they serve.

If you did get infected via one of our ads, let me know and I'll get with Google. I've already tagged a few as inappropriate for this site.

I'm moving this thread to General.

These are both A+ suggestions.  Every warez seems to run there course so at least for now, these are great!

I use Ad Block, zero ads.

I posted what you need to do to fix your browser. 403 warnings are sign of BADNESS to come. It's not a server, it's not a moon phase. Richard, you need to fix the problem, or you'll be screwed.

Use ad blocker, they're free. Bill posted good one I use.

God, why do I even post links, or a gd thing. Must be on universal ignore. Perils of being an ah I guess.

Hiya Bob, I owe you text.

Hard to believe there are people still not using Adblock.  Add to that, NoScript which is even more important.  If you're on Facebook, add Facebook Disconnect as well.

Another vote for Adblock Plus! I know Gregg could use the revenue from the ads, but unfortunately, I've found many of them to be quite intrusive, and just flat out annoying. And yes, some of them were making the site slow.

I use Chrome also and it's one of the best add-ons they offer, and like Bill said...............it's FREE
