pack rat Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 An early 60's-era custom Vette inspired by a built-up '64 custom I acquired years ago. I borrowed the hood and Terra-thrust mags from the old kit and did my own version using a partially complete '63 I had on the pile. A pretty simple build; emblems shaved, rear window "split" removed, added taillights; typical mods from when these cars were new. Paint is Tamiya TS-54 light metallic blue with a lavender pearl-tinted clearcoat. An interesting contrast to the over-the-top '70's-era custom I did long ago.
espo Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 Beautiful shade of Blue. I remember seeing a lot of six tail light Corvettes years ago and removing the front Bumper was also a common modification. The Hood treatment is distinctive.
Gramps46 Posted May 26, 2019 Posted May 26, 2019 Nice looking models on my favorite Corvette body style.
Snake45 Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 This is the coolest thing I've seen all day (and your old one is way-cool too). Great concept and perfect execution! I've been collecting original AMT '63-'67 Vettes and parts for over a decade now, and thought I had at least "one of everything" but I've never seen that hella cool hood before, so good for you on that! VERY well done and model on!

I just went back through all the old AMT instruction sheets and couldn't find that hood. Did it maybe come from an early MPC Corvette, or perhaps even a custom of some kind? I like it a lot and would like to try to find one if possible.

It is in the AMT '64 Advanced Customizing Coupe Kit and on the box art. Edited May 28, 2019 by Gramps46

Interesting--that's the ONE original Vette sheet that's NOT on the Drastic Plastic site. I do have an unbuilt kit, though, so I should check the actual box. Thanks!
Dragonhawk1066 Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Great job! Nice paint and nice color. Both Vettes look great.
