DumpyDan Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 Man oh man this is cool, well done John. This is coming together very well, love it. Sure hope you post the finished model. LOL
1967RMP Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 In the home stretch now! I added woodgrain and painted the hood silver, as well as pinstriping.. The horn, spare, exhaust system, and basket were popped on. I still have to put on the windscreen frame, lights, and license plate, plus a few more little details. I still have to figure out the wings, but hopefully I'll be done with everything else by tomorrow night, because I have to move on to other props.
1967RMP Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 It's FINALLY done! (Well, except for the wings, which I still have to figure out.) This has been a labor of love, and even though I enjoyed every minute of it, it's time for me to move on. Thank you for following my progress and all the nice compliments!
Watertown Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Enjoyed the movie. Love your adaptation. Nicely done!
Maindrian Pace Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 It looks fantastic! Are you sure your middle name isn't Caractacus?
doctor phillips Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 This turned out GREAT! Congratulations on a job well done!
1967RMP Posted September 22, 2019 Author Posted September 22, 2019 I FINALLY figured out the retractable wings! And on the night before the show opened. What's more, I just found out a school wants to buy it for their presentation. So I'm glad someone else wants to use it after we're done - I don't want to see it dismantled.
Sam I Am Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 So awesome! I wish my mind would work like yours once in awhile. ?

gasser59 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 This is so awesome!! Great job on manufacturing a great rendition of a unique vehicle. Love it!!
Tom Geiger Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 (edited) That is soooo beyond cool! I'm happy it will be preserved. Maybe bring it to a car show or two? Bring it to a model show and win the "Large Scale" category? ? Edited September 24, 2019 by Tom Geiger
alan barton Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 What an amazing piece of work! Scratchbuilding at its very best! What is really impressive is that you totally captured the look of the original, the proportions, the stance, all the things you look for in a replica in any scale, using totally unrelated components and materials. I will bet it looked awesome on stage! Cheers Alan
misterNNL Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 Great work .I'm glad it will be of further use once the play is over. Thanks for sharing your talent and passion with us.

Bugatti Fan Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Nice theatre production car. In miniature I think Aurora may have kitted this car many years ago but do not know what scale if they did. Corgi made a die cast model of this car that is quite collectable possibly in 1/43rd scale.

In miniature I think Aurora may have kitted this car many years ago but do not know what scale if they did. Here's the Aurora kit, issued back in 1968. It doesn't mention a scale anywhere on box or instruction sheet. I was fortunate to find this started glue bomb at a Toledo show a dozen or more years ago for $10. It was only missing the gas cap. It does look big! Here it is sitting next to a Monogram 1/24 scale Model A. It could be as large as 1/20 or could just represent a very large touring car in 1/24 scale. I doubt Aurora was very concerned about scale with this issue. Here's the tire comparison.
Bugatti Fan Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Tom, it you have this kit, as Aurora is long gone, maybe it would be worth getting resin cast patterns made from it. There must be many modellers who would like to build a model of this car! Incidentally, I believe that the original movie car is now owned by an ex BBC disc jockey named Chris Evans.
