Ever buy kits...just to "Pirate" parts?

I guess I'm the rare bird that hasn't done this. I've taken parts from a kits, mostly motors ans wheels , to use on other kits and used other parts to finish those kits but never a whole kit. I think because even back when nits were a buck ninty-eight they were hard to afford and I couldn't see wasting them.

I bought 6 of the Lindberg 64 Dodges that were on clearance at Spotlight Hobbies just for the slant six engines for my future Valiant builds. That is the best slant six ever in a kit. Then I saw that the chassis fits nicely under Johan sixties Mopars.

Kits I will always buy for $10 or less just for parts... 

1950 or 1955-57, 1960 AMT Chevy pickups

1950 Revell or 1953 AMT Ford pickups

1941 AMT Plymouth for the flathead six

1971 AMT Duster or 1968-9 Revell Dart - chassis for Valiant builds.

Swap meets are always a good place to get good deals, I always shop for kits I need certian parts for other projects there..

many kits are purchased just for engines, wheels, frames, bodys.... etc...

now if I ever used them that would be great..! lol?

I've yet to do it intentionally, but I do find myself robbing parts from other kits for specific projects from time to time, mostly tires and wheels,... so far.

I still do, though lately, with the price of new kitsI try to make sure I get as much usable material out of it as I can, and usually wait until they're on sale.

Basically all kits are raw material.

I have several kits that were from slot car guys who used the bodies and related pieces for their projects. Everything else is in the kits so they're a great source of parts.

Late 90s Corvettes. Cheap and have LS engines. 

There are quite a few kits that include enough great stuff they’re worth buying just for parts. 
Rob (Jantrix) has a whole thread about the best kits to do so...if I can find it I’ll link it up.

Yep, what he said. When I am at a swap meet with $10 kits available, parts are my main focus.

all of the time!  I bought from Hobby Lobby an AMT  kit for the blue walls so I could use them for Motor City Resin's excellent 66 Barracuda S kit.

Same here. My Brother has a friend who builds & races slot cars. He only uses the body & hood, then gives the rest to my Brother to give to me.

With my main focus on building T;s A's and Deuces. All I look at anymore  is what part are in a kit. My "kit" stash has turned into a "parts" stash

I have about a dozen of the lindberg color me gone dodges bought strictly for parts

I have a few MPC Dodge pickup kits that I'll mix and match for a couple complete builds. I recently grabbed an AMT '67 Impala kit in order to build the incomplete AMT '69 Impala kit in the stash.

I use to buy two kits every time I bought, because I knew I was going to screw up something and lose a part or break something.  I use the be rather heavy handed at the bench.

I have two Revell 67 chevelles and three 70's purchased just for the tubs and rear tires.

I've also bought the 50 ford f1 just for the Ardun heads, and a 70 Torino for the 409.

I once bought a Revell SE 62 Impala just for the grill, because I broke mine trying to open it up. 
I have bought kits just for wheels, engines, body parts you name it. 
In this hobby, it just happens!
