Completely assembled, no paint, cracked windshield. This is considered pro-built?

What "Pro" did this? I guess anyone can be a "Pro" with such a loose definition as this.

It doesn't say he's a pro model builder, maybe he's a pro wrestler.

I love that 57 ford, never seen a car doing a wheelstand standing still!

And apparently it's accelerating so hard, the front wheels can't keep up with the rest of the car.

I think he just forgot to cut out the front wheel opening like the great job he did on the rear.

“Pro built “ is absolutely thee MOST misused term that is so grossly thrown about on eBay. It drives me nuts. Realistically.... how many people really make a profession out of building model cars??? What exactly makes a builder a pro? Granted, there are many people on this forum that build amazing models and possess GREAT talent that never ceases to amaze me and I have a ton of admiration for their talent. I’m glad someone brought this up.... rant over. As Snake says.... model on?

I've stopped wondering about that crapp years ago. "Pro Built" means nothing on e-bay. I did build a car just to sell on e-bay about 15 years ago to help pay for my trip to NNL East that year.

I thought it'd do pretty well for me.

,,, Not so much ,, at least not as well as I hoped.  It barely cleared $100 USD ,,, [109, IIRC]

Oh well,, live and learn.

Pro...potential rip off?

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Winner!

Actually, "Pro-built" on eBay means exactly the same thing that the word "Only" means before any price, anywhere: Absolutely nothingB)

That's a shame! Your's is what I consider "professionally built". You should've gotten a lot more for it.

Almost reminds me of the "Jade Idol", except it's not a Ford and it's not green.

There are guys like Paul Hettick and a few close to his caliber on ebay, that are "pro builders", the other stuff is laughable. As far as models like Steve's Plymouth above, I think it has a lot to do with what is popular and not the quality of the build. Clearly his model is awesome, but not everyone likes customs. That same car built to that standard (or not even as well) as a jacked up, psuedo gasser style of today would probably bring $$$ because they are in vogue right now. Same if it was an unusual replica stock resin body style such as a wagon or 4 door that was never kitted.

I have a buddy that IS a pro builder. He got into a group of folks in the real car world.....hooked up with folks with real money, some famous.....some just money....builds commission now. He does not do the net as many of his customers do not want folks knowing they collect model cars. He does do pro work......

I was always under the assumption that you turned PRO when you got paid for something you're doing. So, I guess if someone gets $5.00 for a built model, that makes him a pro. That's kinda what I get out of some of the stuff I see on the 'Bay! HAHAHA

Ebay... I haven't been on Ebay in about five years.

With all the anything-for-a-buck vampires parting out vintage model kits to sell a single Jo-Han wheel rim for $35.99 plus $17.00 S & H, it's no longer worth torturing myself by even just browsing.

Is this the same person who did a couple models for Christopher Titus , Dave?

I can’t disagree with anything you said. A builder like Paul has earned his rating and developed a following. I’m sure he paid his dues to get there!

Subject matter is important. There’s a guy in my club who hasn’t built in years but constantly buys drag models. Recently there was one he was talking about, that when I saw the photos it wasn’t a great build at all. But it was a drag car with a resin body. It brought a bit under $300.

One of the things that can hurt a seller on eBay is a great model with a few poor photos and poor write up. Presentation is as important as the model to get noticed and command bids.
