randyc Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 So this Tamiya Morgan kit has all kinds of potential. Since they are custom built, can be any color I can dream up. Well.... I painted it with a testors extreme lacquer that was a beautiful dark gold on cap. Couple test appears and it looked different. Shook it more. Figured let's just see... Well it was bad. So... I pulled out a can with a date of 1994. Emerald green metallic. It's a big can of auto touch up. Like they used to sell. Don't know what brand cause I've used the can to hold other bodies and painted over the label. Probably duplicolor. That's better. But let's add some shine. Clear coat. Testors one coat. Well, it starts bubbling up. Dangit... So I had a mess. Into the purple pond. For a couple months and the green is NOT coming off completely. Well.... Since I'm on this dirty model kick.. The testors came out like old metal after being in people stuff. Couldn't ask for a better old metal finish. Morgans may be aluminum though? Can't be helped. Here ya go. Barn find survivor? Bet no one else has one like it. Lol.
Jim B Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Great job. It looks so sad! ? Just waiting for some TLC & a restoration.
Spottedlaurel Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 It may not have been your intention, but that's worked really well!
espo Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Looks like real old thick paint jobs over the years. You realize it would be hard to get this finish if that is what you were first trying for. I think it turned out great looking myself. Morgan, now all you have to worry about is Termites
bbowser Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Great finish no matter how it came about! I would like to see more of that Delahaye?

The Delahaye is on its way to another member here in Canada. I just couldn't take the frustration anymore. I hope he will finish it in some fashion.

THarrison351 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Excellent weathering technique! It may be the best way to do it!
peekay Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Very nice! A neighbour had one in very similar condition.
doorsovdoon Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Looks great, like it was laid up years ago and recently pulled out of the barn. I see these quite often here in the summer.
Dominik Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 agreed with the weathering. however you made that out of a paintaccident - it Looks awesome.
PatW Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 I was only at their factory last year. Having seen hundreds on the road and at classic car events, I've not seen a rat look one before, well done!

And someone will find them, drag them out and maybe even drive them as the restore? That was my thought after it became apparent that the paint was not coming off.

Yes Randy, a super idea, barn finds!
Funkychiken Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Like others have said, you couldn't have planed getting a weathered finish like that, looks old and used!
randyc Posted August 20, 2020 Author Posted August 20, 2020 Thanks for the compliments. I have an idea for another build to see if I can replicate the metal finish again.
89AKurt Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 True sign of a good crapsman, turned out good! Important thing, it's finished, move on to the next work of art.
randyc Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 "Crapsman"? LOL that's me! And I have moved on. GT4 almost done, 69 SS396 has paint on most all parts.
randyc Posted August 23, 2020 Author Posted August 23, 2020 Well that's where I was going with mine. Saddle interior probably. But.... It would be cool to display them side by side.
