bobthehobbyguy Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 (edited) Must have been a real challenge to drive. No corning ability. On the bright side they did have to hack up the rear wheel wheels. Edited November 30, 2020 by bobthehobbyguy
iamsuperdan Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Looks like it would fall over if you turned the steering wheel. Controversial comment alert: This is just as goofy as current "stanced" cars and donks. ?

Spruslayer Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Remove the wheelie bars and i bet it would make a great wheel stander.
The Junkman Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Cheater slicks? I SO remember locals cars like that and the odd streetable one with a blower through the hood. And the image is flipped.

And people who built cars that actually worked were every bit as critical of this style of rampant demonstration of stupidity.

BuilderX Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Stagecoach , he's missing the horse team ?!
Modlbldr Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 This is not from "Back in the Day". This car is from about 15 years ago and the owner lives (or lived) in Las Vegas. Nice guy. I saw this in a mag about 12 years ago and was building a model of it. He sent me a message to tell me that it was his car. He sent me some pics to answer some of my questions. I have the mag at home for reference. Later-

Deuces ll Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 (edited) I just don't get it.....? Sorry fellas..... I like my keister closer to the ground..... Edited November 30, 2020 by Deuces ll
Joe Handley Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 In all honesty, the rump to road distance on that Donk isn’t too far from a lot of modern trucks and SUVs, possibly lower than the F/S Chevy Vans I grew up with too.

bobthehobbyguy Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I'm not surprised that the car in the first post is a recreation I don't remember seeing them running around with wheelie bars. Just goes to show not all trends are based on practicality. I've seen jacked up 4x4s that are so high I have no clue how they get in or out. Oh well to each his own.

peteski Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Are we starting another anti-donk thread? Don't we have another one already going?

Erik Smith Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 It doesn’t seem practical in the current times - what with curbside pickup, that trunk is a liability.
bobthehobbyguy Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Some trends are for looks. In this case the trend was started by someone who wanted to put more tire on the car but didn't want to cut up the wheel wells. It solved the problem but at the expense of handling. Others copied the design and it started a trend. The guy that built this car liked the look and built his version. Despite the short comings that's what he wanted.

bobthehobbyguy Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Well he better like looking at it. He certainly isn't going to boat in it in a lake, at least not for very long.
espo Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 I would love to be selling U-Joints in his town. Think about the Pinon angle as well as the U-Joints.
