bogger44 Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Here's my latest build, the uninspiring (detail-wise) but otherwise very cool AMT Scout SSll. The first thing that was addressed was to flatten the curvature that the top of the grille and hood are plagued with, as well as scribing in the various missing panel lines around the body. Then, I couldn't leave it stock so I had to perform a spring over lift, and fitted it with some Fireball Modelworks BFG Krawlers & wheels. The notorious empty engine bay was spruced up with various parts box pieces to make it a bit more acceptable. I wanted to throw on some finned valve covers but didn't have any that fit, so I went with the stock ones. The chrome on the air cleaner was shot, so I stripped it and took a Molotow marker to it and and think it came out pretty decent. The transmission mysteriously doesn't come with a pan, so scratched one for it. Other additions are the brush guard, shocks, and a steering stabilizer and tie rod for the front suspension. The mirror is the one from the kit, however the post it's on came from the parts box as well. Thought about running a full length dual exhaust, but with time I came to like the side dump exhaust more and more and went with it. Paint is Model Master Go Mango, polished out with no clear. Ended up being a really fun build, and love how it turned out. When the weather turns better I may replace these indoor shots with some outdoor ones. Thanks fer lookin' and any questions or comments.
larman Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Man that looks really good! Love the lift and the big tires!
espo Posted February 5, 2021 Posted February 5, 2021 Great looking Box Art build. You got the lift on this alright and the KM2 Tires even look well done. Very nicely detailed interior as well as the engine.
PappyD340 Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Looks great, I went to high school with a guy that had one exactly like it!
charlie8575 Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Very nice build. It also answers my questions if this was different from the other Scout. Charlie Larkin
Plowboy Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hands down, the best build I've ever seen of this kit! Looks perfect in every way! All the extras you added really made this old kit come to life. Makes me want to build one for myself! Nice work Tony!
Kromolly Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 That looks fantastic. Very nice build indeed!
1930fordpickup Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I agree with the others. This is very well done.
NOBLNG Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Nice! Just the right amount of lift, and the paint and decals are super.
Classicgas Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Very nice. Did you add the under hood details or were they in the kit? The other version doesn't have much under the hood.
bogger44 Posted February 6, 2021 Author Posted February 6, 2021 Thanks so much guys. While it does take some extra effort to bring this old kit to life, it sure is worth it. 2 hours ago, Classicgas said: Very nice. Did you add the under hood details or were they in the kit? The other version doesn't have much under the hood. Thanks Lee. This kit lacks the same as the hardtop version does. Radiator, washer bottle, master cylinder/booster, custom air cleaner were all parts box pieces. As was the radiator hose (though the kit does have one). The heater box/motor I scratch built. I see you're in MN, it sure is friggin' cold up here! Still -4 degrees here in western WI.
89AKurt Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Cool subject, and you did a fine job with it. A neighbor owns one, but has the doors.
Mr mopar Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 That looks very good with the bigger tires ,and that engine bay detail is awesome !
