I have heard of this technique many times but have never tried it. Is it possible (if lacquer is used as a clear coat) for the BMF to lift? Does the lacquer adhere well to the BMF? I know some modelists use BMF as a mask for clean lines so I'm wondering what your experience is with this. This is a lacquer as far as I know. It seems to cover the foil nicely, none of it has lifted, and I did put a really heavy coat on. I see from a bit of research (this can is entirely Japanese) that it should NOT be used over decals. I intended to cover the decals also, but now I’m not sure.? Edited March 8, 2022 by NOBLNG 1 1
NOBLNG Posted March 2, 2022 Author Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) Well I managed to get the stripe decals on. WOW…what an ordeal! Me and decals don’t get along too well. This is the decal for the nose.? It curled up in a spiral that I couldn’t undo. Thankfully they also include the ‘70-‘72 style stripes, so I cut one of them up and made a new one for the nose out of four separate pieces. I cut the drivers side center stripe into three sections since I figured there was no way I could do it as one. The door section twisted on me again so I cut it in two and managed to salvage it. One of the pieces floated right up off the paper after only about 30 seconds in the water.? Maybe my water was a bit too warm?? The passenger side went better. I used cool water and managed to get the section on the door done in one piece.? I can’t risk putting that UV clear on now for sure! Thanks for Lookin’! Edited March 11, 2022 by NOBLNG 1
Speedpro Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Nice save! Those decals can get tricky. Nice work on this build.
NOBLNG Posted March 8, 2022 Author Posted March 8, 2022 (edited) Well I finally got the nerve up to tape off all that trim and spray the XF-86 flat clear on the roof. I had visions of ripping the foil off with the tape but thankfully that didn’t happen. I managed to get all the glass in without getting glue everywhere. I used a glue looper to apply the model master clear parts cement. The under carriage has been done for a while now. Edited March 8, 2022 by NOBLNG 3

Thanks for jogging my brain.? On 3/2/2022 at 6:04 PM, Speedpro said: Nice save! Those decals can get tricky. Nice work on this build. Thanks! Yeah long thin decals are best being positioned and the paper pulled out from under them, but that didn’t work properly for me this time. 3 hours ago, mustang1989 said: Frickin' wow!!!! Nazz Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 Nice work Greg. I noticed looking at my oun kit that the ignition was a Revell error. Something I will have to correct when I build mine. Yours is coming along great! I love the color! I had a few Chevies from those years as well. Jerry
c. jackson Posted March 9, 2022 Posted March 9, 2022 very nice work on that top trim. keep up the good work.
Bills72sj Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Very nice Chevelle. My 1st car was a 68 Malibu. Nice work on that vinyl top BTW.
bluestringer Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Looks fantastic. Nice work. When I got back in the hobby last May the 68 Chevelle was my first kit, and I messed it up bigtime. I've since improved a little and need to get another one to try again.
ModelcarJR Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Your 68 is looking very nice, Greg! I built this one a few years ago without any corrections just out of the box with some plug wires and heater hoses and it turned out well. I've got a second one in the closet so I may try it again with your corrections and a vinyl top. Nice work - very inspirational! ??
Bainford Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Superb! That's coming along great, Greg. That colour really hits the mark.
NOBLNG Posted March 10, 2022 Author Posted March 10, 2022 (edited) Thank you all very much for your encouraging comments!? A thank you also to Geoff Brown (GEE BEE) for this tip in his kit review build on how to glue two piece side mirrors. It solved a small conundrum for me.? I didn’t like the chrome exhaust tips in the kit, which weren’t really available from the factory anyways, so I made some tips that are closer to stock. I am calling this one done now. Thanks again everyone. More pics here: Edited March 11, 2022 by NOBLNG 1
doorsovdoon Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Very nice work. Love the colour with the vinyl roof, and the interior looks superb!
bisc63 Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 That looks SO good. Excellent work on the vinyl top; you sweated all the details to get it RIGHT. I like that you chose the less common shade of blue for that year, it really makes your model stand out. Well done.
larman Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 That is a stunner! Great color, nice details and super job on the vinyl top!
Ian McLaren Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Great job, like everyone else, the roof trim is a standout feature, well done
BuilderX Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Wow Superb Job on this Chevell Greg! Great job on the roof!
