Pierre Rivard Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Ben Hobby re-pop of the Tamiya Porsche Moby Dick + resin bits and decals all arrived this week to build the Momo IMSA variant of this famous & outrageous racer. 7
W-409 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 I was able to score a Bonneville Streamliner by Hawk Models from eBay a while ago and yesterday it showed up! A Streamliner is something that I've always wanted to build, so this will be interesting. The kit is super simple, so a lot of scratchbuilding and kitbashing will be required, as my plan is to build a "Full Detail" version with a proper engine and drivetrain. Once my current '61 Impala project is finished I'll start working on this one... 5

I stocked up on all of 'em years ago when they were very cheap. I'm sure you've realized they're down around 1/32 scale, unless you opt to build one of the micro streamliners like Pumpkin Seed. I started a similar project, and realized almost every major dimension would need to be enlarged to get most any kind of V8, driveline, and a scale pilot in it. Edited January 31 by Ace-Garageguy

As far as I know, these kits are about 1/32 scale, but someone said they are representing a Streamliner that would have a big airplane engine behind the driver. And those things were huge. With that said, my plan was originally to enlarge it to 1/25th scale, but now when looking at it, I don't think it's necessary at all when building a Streamliner with an automobile engine. Because it is approximately the same size as a regular Hot Rod, I think it's good to go. 2
WillyBilly Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I found a few orphaned kits at Walmart, so I adopted them. Then a quick stop to HL for some primer. 5
Daddyfink Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Kit show today! Picked up a couple of kits for a good deal. Always wanted a first issue Smokey kit, and here it is! just the engine halves and wheels have been assembled, otherwise pretty minty. 8
mk11 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Picked up an original issue mpc '69 Mach 1 kit pretty reasonable at the local curiosity shop this afternoon. Looks like everything's there, including a few extras I wasn't expecting... A grill, bumper and hood from an amt '68 annual, custom taillight piece from the '67 annual and 4 decent Apache mags Since the '68 GT500 Shelby kit is the last stand of the '67/'68 annual parts, these parts will certainly help with my idea of turning the GT back into a regular '68 fastback. Not sure what I'll do with the mags yet. There's also a pair of 4 spoke wheels there too; maybe Indy car? 9
Rodent Posted February 2 Posted February 2 This arrived today from FleaPay. Sealed inside except for the glass and tires. Miraculously they didn't find each other in the box. It has been raining here and the shipping box was soggy to the point of almost coming apart when the post office delivered it, but the kit box was dry. I think $19.99 plus shipping was a deal. All the talk on here of the old Monogram Fords made me want one. 7

Two great kits. I think I had the 57 too, but it was the Fairlane or crown vic kit, not the race car. Both kits are great. Nice find. 1
Falcon Ranchero Posted February 2 Posted February 2 A buck 47 for each from value village and every fifth one was free so we got 15. 5

I would have snagged the classic car "tucker" mag in a heartbeat. I'd love the kit, but the only one I've found is big money, for a kit anyway. Great finds, great deal. 1

Yes, those streamliners are close to 1/32nd scale, but they're still big enough to hold a 1/25th flathead and a driver.
Mark Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I believe those Hawk streamlined kits were also issued with some different parts, as 1/25 scale "sports cars". The basic bodies were the same, but roofs and windshields (among other parts) were added to make them look different.

Old Buckaroo Posted February 3 Posted February 3 My wife reminded me that its been a while since I bought a "show rod" kit so I obliged. She had bought me this book several years back and after she read through it, she was hooked on them. 1
